  1. Hi I think you need to insist they investigate. That's not normal and can be a sign something is wrong. All the best let us know your outcome.

Should I cancel my surgery? Help!

I would personally cancel life does throw curve balls but it's not often they are that big. I would want to be there for my daughter and grandkids and wouldn't mind waiting an extra 6 months for such a situation like that.
  3. Hi everyone my surgeon asked me to loose 5-10kg so around 11-22lb on my 3 week pre op. I've lost 6kg so far and can probably get in another one or two by surgery day by being 100 percent compliant. But I've cheated throughout. I have tried so hard but most days I eat at least one or two times off plan usually in the evening. I'm 4.5 days away from surgery I will stick to the shakes and nothing else. I hope this combined with the weight loss might be enough to shrink it. I'm mostly self pay and I'm dreading waking up telling me I didn't shrink it enough n couldn't do the op. I can't sleep worrying about it. I mentioned in our pre op appointment truthfully but light heartenly that I actually nearly cried looking at a doughnut I couldn't have at my in laws . And he said seriously oh that's very concerning.... like I should be over any desire for the food I got into this mess with already . So I don't feel I can share my struggles with him. And no I didn't eat a doughnut. Do you thing it's too late for a surgeon to see any fat reduction in 4- 5 days?

    "Nouveau Fat"

I'm sort of in the middle, I was a normal/little overweight up until 25, i'm 32 now, and morbidly obese, (i'm pre op but only one week to go!) So while it's only been 7 years for me i don't remember what it was like to be 'normal sized at all'. Mentally I've been fat all my life, i remember being self conscious at age 5 about how fat my legs were, so to myself I've always been fat, i'm a self fulfilling prophecy I guess. I look back at pics from my early twenties and think ugh! there was nothing wrong with you you looked great! - yet i didn't see it at the time. So I have no memory of being normal sized only photographs that I can look back on and realise what i didn't see then.

    No energy

a lot of things can go haywire after surgery and low cals, do get things checked like Iron as mentioned, but also consider thyroid and low blood pressure etc 0 go get some blood works and a general check up and keep up the protien and water All the best
  6. me too, although not all are as bad for me it's not the milk it's the fake sugars and stuff they put in and also some have fibre added in and they are worst make me look 11 months pregnant (I already look 8 months with my flab ) I use it to my advantage though - the ones that make me bloat also make me feel full longer and less likely to want to cheat (i'm on pre op at the minute)

    Food stages?!?

We don't have an only liquid stage, it's straight on to liquids and puree so a protein shake and yogurt, apple sauce, no lump soup etc for the first 3 weeks, then on to for a few weeks mushy/soft foods like mash potato etc then trying out normal but not tough things like steak etc foods as stomach tolerates.

    Yoga

Hi everyone hey I was just wondering if any if you do yoga? It's something I have as a goal to make part of my life even though I have nearly no experience! I hear a lot if good things and it's something I want to do. I tried a few yoga apps but I am just too big and my gut is in the way. FYI I'm still pre op. So for those of you that do yoga regularly what weight did you start at and has it helped you on your journey? I am interested in the mind aspect as well as the physical. Also do you do it in a group or in the privacy of your own home? If in a class do you feel comfortable maybe not being small/average sized? Anyway would love to hear your experiences....
  11. Hi All, I know most surgeons and literature around bariatrics discuss losing 'X%' of your 'excess weight' however what do they class as excess? I'm assuming they are using the BMI, but what do the class as your 'ideal weight' to then calculate your excess? Is it the highest BMI point you would be classed as in the health range or is it the mid point of the healthy range for your height/gender, the lowest point or something else? It's just i'm trying to set up my weigh loss journal and app and set goals etc but i'm at a loss as to what this mystical calculation is based on Thanks in advance - and yes I would be amused if this like everything else varies between surgeons!
  12. I live in New Zealand and the Milford area is truly mind blowing... hope you achieve your dream

    Apprehension about General Anesthesia

me two, i had a very minor GA last year for like under an hour and no issues, but since then I have had a few electrical heart issues, which makes me more nervous about it.
  14. Ok, I admit it I've been overly confident in the lead up to the pre-op. I've done Optifast a number of times before and other shake diets, and I've managed up to 9 weeks previously. So I thought no worries, this will be easy, a bit bummed out i'm on a 3 week as opposed to a 1 or 2 week pre-op which seems to be the norm, but easy I thought! I'm a pro dieter! I don't know whats wrong with me, I'm on day 3 and cheated everyday - admittedly I started 2 days early as I like to start things on a Monday and not mid week (yeah i know I'm weird!) So technically I've cheated 1 day of my pre-op diet. I have to get this right starting from tomorrow but I just don't know whats wrong with me - the hunger is really getting to me and i ended up getting a big salad, and while it's not as bad as wolfing down pizza and cakes the sauces and sprinkle of cheese should really not have been there!! I don't know if subconsciously my body knows that this is the end of eating the way I did and is making it harder to stick to than normal, I've wanted this surgery for years, done all my prep and research, i'm self pay and it's finally nearly here and I can't manage 1 day properly on the preop! Has anyone got any tips to distract myself from temptation/hunger prangs(I work full time and have 3 young kids so not much time for hobbies :|) Or do I just need to suck it up buttercup?? Thanks in advance!
  15. Thank you so much both of you for your responses! I will take tomorrow as a new day and I will try some extra fibre to my shakes. All the best Lealor! We have got this!!

    The Edge of BMI

Yes I was just over and rules are rules I was approved p.s. I downed a liter of drink before my official weigh in just incase their scale was calibrated differently to my home one. Fyi my bmi was/ is 41 just started pre op.
  18. You are most likely in Ketosis and this can cause insomnia - google it Every time i do some kind of shake diet that drops me below 700-800cals and those Ketones kick in so does the insomnia :|
  19. I was actually looking up this exact same question I was hoping to find piture examples of a days food with 80gm of protein. Hope someone answers for you and me lol

    So happy and desperate!

My surgeon doesn't let you leave the hospital until you have eaten some yogurt and apple puree etc. It's yet another area which is inconsistent across surgeons. I don't think anything bad will happen physically but you don't want to get in the habit of going off your plan. Up to you I think.

    Any August Sleevers?

I'm another august 18th. Started my pre op today as my surgeon requires a 3 week pre op diet! Boooo! Also got a sinus infection complete with fever n headaches etc after the flu so hoping to get that under Control ASAP so not to jepedise my surgery
  22. Hi everyone I'm pre op and feeling so low in energy the last 3-4 months as I've hit my heaviest weight :/ How long after surgery and/or after how much weight loss did you feel a real tangible increase in energy? Thanks in advance!
  23. I'm the opposite to some of you I don't like specialists that are "yes" people I wanted mine to question my ideas and preconceptions and not just another payday for them. I am paying them thousends out of my own pocket for their expertise so it would raise a red flag for me if I wasn't questioned significantly about my options, motivation and understanding. Obviously all done with a good bedside polite manner
  24. Hi I'm no expert but my surgeon said that those on the larger end of the scale tend to do better with the bypass. I'm sure both could work but statically I think you'd be better with that option
