Haven’t been here in a while. I came by to look up something i posted years ago. But found out, even though I haven’t been here I’m still ruffling feathers. Haha and I didn’t even have to try.
Anyway I figured if I were here i may as well catch you guys up.
Still bandless 😞 and i still miss Tina every day. It’s been 1 year and almost 4 months. Hanging in at 150-155. Managing to still wear 4-6 mostly 6.
Yes im still divorced 🙌🏻🙌🏻 Still with tim and living in Madison. Job is going great. Still being spoiled beyond belief. This amazing man adores me. He hides wrapped gifts around the house and when he’s away he’ll send me a message.... you are so wonderful you deserve a gift..... go find one in the spare bedroom ... and there will be a beautiful blouse or Pants or a dress. He baths me every night he home and washes my hair. Irons my clothes, cooks and cleans (I still do cook and clean) and has a cocktail waiting for me. We just got back from the most incredible NYC vacation (my first time there) couple things he did... Yankees game, vip tickets to watch the Macy’s fireworks from the top of the Empire State Building, Wicked (2nd row center) dinner at NOBU, museum of natural history, kinky boots, Chinatown, and lots and lots of shopping. Necklace from Tiffany’s and a new charm from Pandora.
He bought me a new Kona bike. It’s kicking my a$$. But it’s great. New lawnmower so I can cut the grass which I love. So I told him it made no sense to pay someone to cut, when I Love to do it.
I miss most of you guys.... just kidding, I miss all my friends. If you want to reach me. Message me and I’ll give you my contact information

True. I saw the same trend, too.
I found it ironic.....go into the hospital for weight loss surgery....come home the next day heavier than before I went in.
I had a post-op appointment with my surgeon six days after surgery. The weight "gained" in the hospital had gone by then and I was two pounds lighter than the day of surgery.
My surgeon dismissed the rise and fall with a wave of the hand and said he wasn't even concerned with scale readings the first couple weeks. Danmitman !!!! I coulda used this little decree from him prior to this encounter.
    Inflammation is heavy stuff !!!!!

On my 14 day pre-op liquid diet I lost 17 pounds according to the hospital scales.
I had fairly low activity during this period.....my Fitbit recording 3,500 steps a day average during that time (back issues). Just held down my job responsibilities with the limited amount of walking I could.
My surgeon & nutritionist keep it simple for me with the diet. I didn't have to figure out anything or dabble around with food choices. They gave me 4 different Protein drinks and the surgeon said to have 3 a day plus all the non-calorie drink I wanted. The nutritionist said that if I ever felt like I was going to break down and cheat.....to do so with up to 2 additional Protein Drinks from the approved list.
I'd love to tell you that I was totally compliant, but I can't. During this two weeks on my day's off work I was swamped with trying to get some home projects completed around the house. I'd been dealing with a back injury for a while leading up to my surgery....knew a hernia was going to be repaired during my surgery and anticipated being limited in action for a while.
Anyway, I was knocking out some chores. One of them being to replace our mailbox. I'd bought the new box....started work on it and decided to replace the entire post and all. A couple hours later I was done....new post in the ground in a bed of fresh concrete, dirt replaced, fresh pine straw back over it all and I needed some final screws for the street number.
I headed to Lowe's for the 3rd time that day and bought what I needed. Upon leaving I realized that I was freaking starving and drove through the drive thru at Chich Fil A. That meal was the last "normal" food I've had and it was super tasty. I consisted of their grilled chicken bites, chicken Soup and diet lemonade.......each are the "best in category" winners as far as I'm concerned. Had the big "cheat meal" and went home and finished up the work and some other chores. Up early the next morning when I resumed the 14 day pre-op diet.
I do best when left with simple choices. This post-op diet they gave me is the same as the pre-op. It has been extremely easy to follow. I can't emphasize this enough. Hunger no longer fits into the equation and I have to remind myself when it's time to get a shake down. In addition to the lack of hunger there is a healthy respect for the extent of the surgery and my desire to do nothing that would danger the healing of what constitutes my new stomach. If that means a few weeks more on Protein shakes then so be it.......it's no biggie.
The pre-op diet really escalated the weight loss that I experienced leading up to the surgery and seen that first chunk of Fluid loss. The weight loss post-op has been very consistent with the rate experienced during those two weeks.
I'd already made some good progress on weight loss prior to beginning the 14 day pre-op phase. I weighed daily during the 14 day phase and can say that the rate of loss really picked up the most on day 7. From there on it has been very steady.
They scared me with the liver shrinking need during my classes. Fear was a great motivator and simplicity was a great path to follow.
    Best wishes.

My weight loss has slowed down a lot lately but I know I definitely need to hit the gym more regularly. So excited to be close to goal. The last time I saw the nutritionist she thought that 170lbs would be a good goal for me and we could reassess once I reach it. Today I'm 184lbs and I have my one year surgery anniversary coming up April 20th. Trying to crack down to hopefully be 170 by my annual check-up. Regardless I'm really proud of how far I've come and I know that I can get there with the same focus I've had the last 10-11 months. In the last week or so when I've seen old pictures I don't even recognize that person. Surgery was the best decision I've made!

    Well.....last 24 hours was improved.
I took the 3 doses of Tramadol, spaced throughout the day. Made it through and covered all aspects of my job. The ride home was not fun, though. I'm grateful my commute isn't another 5 mins. If it were, then I'd be stopping along the way home to get out and walk around.
Stairwells are brutal right now. I even dodged two meetings simply to avoid the stairs that lead to them.
I've been wearing a compression wrap but will get my hands on a pair of Tommy Copper "sleeves". This is not the first time I've had folks recommend them to me.
I"m also going to begin a more aggressive approach to the diet and push harder to get that last chunk of weight off. It most assuredly won't hurt the cause. For now, my formal cardio is gonna be limited....therefore I'll work on the calorie intake side of the equation. So damn grateful for the sleeve and lack of hunger. Confidence inspiring.
Gonna grab some Tumeric and get it in my system daily. Already started with flax seed oil and joint flex pills (chondroitin, glucosamine & other touted joint jazz).
I no longer have the apprehensions over replacement surgery that I once had. I'm very grateful for the advice you each gave on your experiences. I agree.....relief now trumps waiting for retirement age for that relief. My biggest hangup over that is the time missed from work to recover from such. I missed a total of 9 weeks from work last year (6 weeks for back injury & 3 weeks for sleeve/hernia recovery) and am hesitant to miss another large chunk again. I'm hoping I can get some relief and grind it out another year or so and I'll be using FMLA to cover the knee replacement surgery. I was an idiot to not seek FMLA for my misses in 2015. In 21 years with my current employer the only times I've ever missed have been for surgery recoveries. The climate has changed there and everything is under scrutiny.....even an old dude who's served them faithfully in every way he could. Different environment for sure. Nobody gives a rip for your historical performance....it's all about what you've done this week that counts.....in my job, at least. I'm sure it's the same for most folks. At least the vacation time is good......just can't seem to use it. I've got 120 hours left to take this year, but no way to schedule it until at least November....which most likely won't be possible. Use it or lose it scenario. Argghhhh.
Enough whining. Time to go pour another cup of java and then mix a Protein shake and get my arse on the move.
I really appreciate the insight. Thank you !!!!!!

I am certainly feeling better in many ways after shedding a good chunk of the unwanted weight.
The things that still aggravate me are my knees and back. The back is something that comes and goes....I simply am very careful with it and continue to do my stretches learned in physical therapy.
The knees....hmmmmn. Somedays I'll feel really good with them and am able to do some 90 minute sessions on treadmill (uphill walking) or elliptical. Other days....like this past week...I struggle. It was so bad when driving home from work last night that I had to reach down under my knee to lift and guide my leg as I transitioned between accelerator & brake pedals. Crazy, right ?
It can be either knee on any given day. Both have been operated on when I was in my late teens. Football injuries. I've not been kind to them ever since. Tendon & ligament repairs, cartilage deterioration, severe advanced arthritis...fun combo. Normal stuff that I accept from living large for so long. Play stupid games and win stupid prizes.
5 years ago I was told by two specialists that I'd need replacements in five years, lol. Was hoping that the lost weight would be more relief. Maybe another 60 lbs will get me to a better state.
Overall, I'm pretty much off all the meds I was on prior to sleeve. I am very happy with this development, however, I'm contemplating adding stuff for joint pain.
My sleeve surgeon told me that I could use Advil with food...as needed.
It was working okay up until last week....then it reach the point where it was not.
I've recently seen my pcp, who knows about my sleeve. He prescribed Tramadol. I tried it and found little benefit. Granted, I was spot using it only on days where I was unable to bend either knee more than a few degrees without serious pain.
Yesterday I had Advil at an alarming level that I will not repeat. I was simply hoping to make it through the day at work.
Today I'll actually give the Tramadol another try. I'll do it with the dosing schedule the doc suggested.
I've never tried Celebrex but am considering going back to see him and ask for some next level help.
I work 13+ hour shifts with lots of walking (an aspect that I truly love). One of my peers is going out next week for hip replacement surgery and I intend on covering his spot on my scheduled days off. I need to get on top of the pain so I can do so.
These next 4 months are going to be a grind and I need to be proactive (seems late in the pain game to use such a term):
    * Making an appointment to see my PCP this Friday to see what short term relief he can advise
    * Reverting back to the 2-week pre-op liquid diet, basically living off Protein Shakes and Vitamins. Perhaps there is some easy Water weight that I can shed. Some foods seem to aggravate my arthritis, perhaps this will be a good workaround. It'll certainly speed up the rate of loss and get me to goal quicker.
    * Halting all cardio and preserving the knees for the long hours and long runs of consecutive days at work.
    * Using compression wraps on knees.
    * Research otc / homeopathic remedies as well. I have a buddy who swears by drinking a shot of apple cider every day. Sounds silly...but he is adamant that it helps his pain level. He's urged me to the the Bragg brand and give it a go. Hell, nothing to lose at this point. Gonna stop at EarthFare or Fresh Market this afternoon if I can make it there before they close. What's the harm in a shot of cider each day ?
Sorry for the long moaning and groaning post. I'm hoping that there is a sleeve friendly medication that you've used to gain leverage of similar pains.
Very interested in hearing what's worked for you.
I'm not looking to medicate this way long term.....just get myself through the next 4 months and down below goal weight and then have those hard conversations about knee replacement or other preliminary treatments.
    Thank you !!!

    snack strategy ???
My surgeon was very clear on this. He advised that I avoid Snacks for the first year and stick to three measured meals per day.
This is what I've done and will continue to do.
Three meals spaced out helps me to maintain Protein intake. Snacks simply contribute to keep food focus thoughts. My experience anyway.....
