Pre- Op Weight Loss Question
3 weeks to lose 4 pounds ? You can easily lose this and much more. Did they give you a diet to follow ? If not, then as folks have suggested above there are ways to drop off weight really fast. The pre-op diet many of us followed dropped off a pound per day. It works due to calorie deficit and ketosis. You've got plenty of time to lose the weight. You can do this with great success.

When people ask what you did to lose weight how do you respond?
You shouldn't have to deal with that kind of crap. So dang wrong. What will be cool, though, is your great success. You'll reach your goals and those idiots opinions will never matter.

Really starting to regret having the surgery
I regretted surgery for about 4 months, I had a stricture that's cause me vomiting, pain, etc etc. I'm not 7 months and super happy! Just hung in there, give little more time. I know it's hard but that's all you can do now. Call your doctor if you worry something it's wrong. It's not an easy journey but it's worth it! I am just now 1 month and 5 days out. I've dealt with constipation (not really, still have it) and at close to one month started getting food stuck, salivating like mad and vomiting. After about a week of this nonsense, I got re- admittied (three hours from home) for IV fluids and astimosis dilation. I had a severe 3mm stricture that was dilated to 10mm on 10-15. He said there is a possibility that it will have to be repeated and I believe him. Not something to mess around with. I was sent home on Friday and today, Monday I felt that same tight, stuck pain right after trying to eat. Thinking it might be time for stretch out #2. I'd say discomfort and vomiting on the same food you were able to tolerate a week or two prior is cause for concern. Also.. when or if liquid causes pain and also shoot back out- GO TO THE DOCTOR. Now I know.. Hope this helps someone else. I wish you the best. Thanks for posting. Hopefully folks will read and stay in close contact with their surgeons.

Vitamins (again)
I'll look later when I can get to my paperwork that the nutritionist gave me....maybe I can snap a pic and post it. I'm hoping you are working with a nutritionist in your program. There really isn't much debate about vitamins.....we have to have them....period. End of story. I was told what to take and when (this is very important, too) and that lab work would be done down the road to see where I was nutrionially. That did some lab work in the hospital. If I remember correctly they did it at 3:30am in the morning after surgery when I was finally sleeping. Seems like they were in and out every few minutes for some reason. sleep was the only thing I craved when returning home. All my vitamins are currently chewables and they all taste great. Finstones (2 per day). No kidding.....same ones I loved as a kid. Iron B-12 D Vitamin Calcium chewables (the ones I'm taking are the Bariatric Advantage Chewy Bites 500mg). The chocolate&Peanut Butter and the caramel are each like little Desserts. Who would have thought we'd have treats like these. Great product. I know there is something else but I just can't remember at the moment. Not much debate around here on the need for these. My surgeon's office sales everything I need and I'll simply be buying them from the office in the future. They have simplified it, too, with some new chewable tablet that has everything in it but the calcium. I'll be going that direction once my current supply runs low.

Greek yogurt:/ Yuck!
I'm a dude who didn't care for yogurt. It's something I sidestepped and reached for other unhealthy garbage. Once I entered the diet prior to the pre-op liquid diet, I gave Greek yogurt a try due to it's higher Protein content. I'm a big football fan and had seen Cam Newton's Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt commercials and figured I'd give it a go. I was very impressed with the flavor and thought it was great. Every flavor was really to my liking. I gave other brands of Greek yogurt a try and never found one I liked as much as the Oikos Triple Zero. None were as healthy, either. Give it try if you don't get dialed in on another brand. I'm 7 days post-op, 3rd week of liquids with a few more weeks of liquids to go. I am very much looking forward to the days ahead when I can have my Greek yogurt. It's going to be awesome..

When people ask what you did to lose weight how do you respond?
Made a video about you ? F*%K that B!#*h. No way, shape, or form that can be legal. Sorry, I have no advice, but that blows. You should get a free pass on pimp-slapping that worthless piece of crap for as many times as you'd like. Manipulative, petty, low-class heifer. I'm very sorry you had to be subjected to such a spineless piece of garbage.

Concern about WLS and my fat cat!
I can't tell you how much better my knee feels now that she's been laying on it for a while. Therapy dog in so many ways. She's seen me through three surgeries and I've seen her through two of her own. I've been close to all of our dogs......but this one is really special. I hope she lives a long and healthy life. I just leave the pillow across my abdomen and all is well. My first day home she jumped up in the recliner and stood there looking at me. I pulled my shirt up and showed her the new holes....she leaned in....leaned back.....looked up at me and raised her front left paw and dropped her head down. She's stayed off my abdomen ever since. I keep the pillow there to safeguard against the younger dog....she's wide open and full of adventure and wouldn't know any better. Plus.......that pillow feels great as it's warm and provides slight pressure.

Smoking with Surgery
You said a mouthful right there ! I said the very same things, yet there I was....addicted and having to quit. Cigarettes are hugely addictive but just like OKCPirate said.....after a while the desire goes away. I quit several years ago, but were I quitting now.....I'd pursue the vaping thing. I've known some guys at work who quit this was recently with great success. I wish you the best.

Gas pain post op
I'm truly sorry for your gas pain.....but reading the unedited version had me hurting from laughing. 6 days out, here, and laughing is not fun......but damn that was funny. Laughing may work the gas loose, too. I don't know. Last week when I had my VSG they had me walking within 3 hours as a safeguard towards warding up this stuff. I really feel for you and hope that you can get some relief swiftly.

2 days before surgery and emotional
It's normal to be antsy. I know I sure was. You say it's getting real now. Think back to when you made the decision to have surgery.....remember your rationale then...your motivations. It'll bring things into focus. One thing that made the jitters more for me on this surgery, was that it was the first elective surgery, other than a vasectomy, that I've had. All the rest were to repair stuff I'd torn up through one some misadventure. This one, however, was of my own choice. For some reason this kept me churning until I thought through it all over again and connected back to the "why" I chose to do this. I wish you the best. This surgery, by the way.....has been as easy for me to recover from as the vasectomy I dreaded and delayed on for years.

Looking for cheaper protein bars
Wow. I was unaware they had made changes other than adding new flavors. How long ago was this ?

Bummed and angry
The surgery is a paradigm shift for many of us, I suppose. My passion to grill and cook for my family is still very strong. There is just a much improved menu that I'll be working with. My Grandfathers were both very lean and athletic men. I suspect that their gin & whiskey must have cut through the artery killing stuff my Grandmas cooked. ???? I'm grateful that my generation knows better and I'm really proud my son is lean and healthy. My nephew and my three nieces are each very active, involved in sports and dance and each like my son.....lean and trim. I know they each were never introduced to the Kool Aid monster or Capri Suns or any more of that garbage. No sugar Water. They all grew up eating and drinking healthy stuff and make their own choices. I feel really good about them in terms of healthy weight and healthy lungs.

Leg soreness after surgery?
I just had my sleeve on the 13th and heck yes had bad leg pain. The only other pain was the gas they use to expand the abdomen that cause the worst pain I have ever had. I'm going to ask my doc in my appointment this morning what he did to keep me from having gas pain. I'll report back what I find out. It never presented itself. I have no idea how he worked that magic but I do remember a ladies voice with her hand on my shoulder saying "You are going to feel good, Dr Glass was very careful to get out all the gas." while I was in the haze of the recovery room. He told me the first thing he did was perform the sleeve operation and then he went to the umbilical hernia repair. I wonder if the gas was voided during this step somehow. As far as the leg pain.....it cleared up in just a couple days. It was inner thigh region and what I'd classify as heavy soreness. The only cramping or near-cramping that I experienced thus far were both calves. They felt really tight and on the verge of cramping. Again this was something I experienced the first two-three days. The past three days have seen my water intake over 3 times the minimum recommended amount. I think this improved hydration was the key for solving the calf cramps. He told me just prior to being discharged from the hospital that proper hydration and getting my 3 shakes in would solve many, if not all, the complications I may encounter. He was spot on. I really wish there would have been a way that I could have improved my fitness level prior to this surgery. Daily time on the elliptical the month prior to the surgery would have most certainly made the rebound afterwards even easier. I'm trying to rectify that now and not lest rust set in while I sit around. We are blessed with some beautiful weather this week (just cold to this Southern guy). I plan on walking some laps around the neighborhood every day. Now it's all about getting in the best shape I can over the next two weeks so that my return to work goes smooth. I've been getting calls and texts and know it's piling up on me there, but it's just going to have to pile up. I'm very grateful.

Chocolate craving
Ask yourself how bad you really want this surgery? Ask yourself why losing weight is important to you? Ask yourself if you understand the pre-op diet is for your safety. Compromising it can be dangerous. You are about to have significant internal surgery. Do I really want to jeopardize it ? Ask yourself if you are truly ready ? You've got this. Through all the candy in the trash to avoid temptation. The rest of the family will just have to understand.

A week to go...and am I overly sensitive?
Sorry for her harsh reply. You clearly have a lot of hurdles that you've been jumping over. I guess what you caught was the venom that comes from being asked all sorts of "why can't I have pancakes and ice cream" so freaking often. You didn't deserve that, but you've got your eye on the prize and will be benefitting on your own very soon.

Woke up one day and I was no longer a Diva!
You went through the wringer it sounds like......but you made it !!!!!! We had the same surgery date. Cool. I'll bet you'll give your very best after having to go through so much to get the surgery and then have the extended hospital stay. The Diva will return.

Concern about WLS and my fat cat!
Poor choice of words on my part. I truly love my dogs. They've brought a great deal of pleasure to every member of the family and are great pals. They wouldn't have known any better and it would have been 100% my fault. That being said, it's been easy to take precautions for small dogs. A large cat that can jump........that scares me as sore as I am now. That's why I suggested a crate for those times when your guard is down and you are resting.

Lucky sleever
Man, that is awesome. It sure is mighty refreshing to read posts like yours where you aren't asking when you can have pizza, doughnuts and Twinkies....... So refreshing to read about you passion for exercise. There is no doubt that you will kill it !!!!!!! Keep posting on your progress. Great motivation for the rest of us.

Concern about WLS and my fat cat!
I have two dogs that I love dearly. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for those two dogs. That being said, I would have choked the life out of either/both had they jumped on my abdominal area during recovery. Sad, because it would have been my own stupid fault they had access to my anyway. I've simply ensured they were on the floor or safety situated. Most of the time when seated or laying down I've had a body pillow over my abdomen. A crate may be a wise investment during your healing up time.

Pre op diets so different
Different bariatric centers, different surgeons and most importantly different patient circumstances. Stick to your surgeon's plan and you won't get barked at by them. Go in there and tell them that you deviated to something you saw on the internet........and you'll see their blood pressure rise.

Sleep Apnea?
Most of them have a ramp feature that will start out at a low level and over the next 20 minutes will reach full force and stay there. The difference with and "auto" machine as I understand it is that there isn't a preset max. It fluctuates as needed. My two machines have pre-set maxes that I can't tamper with. As I grew older additional sleep test showed I needed a stronger machine. I want to get a new "auto" machine so I can be done with the aggravating sleep studies and it can fluctuate down as my weight drops.

Bummed and angry
Thank you. My spelling sucks and spellcheck software seemed to be toggled off when I typed the above post. I'm not kidding about the local food. South Carolina has it all and they pride themselves in killing you one bite at a time. No offense South Carolinians, please. I only poke at you. I mainly grew up in North Carolina and now live in Georgia. At least I didn't get started on 'nanna puddin'. Kool aid didn't kill me as a kid........all my favorite foods didn't kill me as an adult........I was fortunate. Maybe there's hope for me yet.

Sleep Apnea?
Outstanding !!!! I'm going to schedule a visit with my regular doctor soon and see about getting a new sleep study scheduled and getting an updated auto machine. I snored horribly since my childhood so I'm under no illusions that I'll be able to give it up in a few months.
