  1. I found that it's really no big deal. The recovery was really easy.....by far the easiest surgery that I've experienced.

    Cheese itz?

Only if you don't bring them back at stupid times......like early on. Now.........id rather have a handful of chicken breast chunks !!!!
  3. Hells yes......so damn good to see you, Kinda ! Where have you bean ???? We need ya 'round here pard. People getting all butthurt because they are married to their own ways...more specifically their own OLD ways. Trying to get to the new way of living and you've done that and done so in a smoove way that say's....."I'm built for comfort....but I'm also capable of speed". We need some veteran leadership 'round here something fierce.... I just want to see folks make a good run at it. Can't do that if you are eating honey, syrups and salty snack foods while on your pre-op liquid liver shrink diet. It's beyond stupid....it's dangerous. If we can't call out dangerous acts then what's the point. It'd then degrade to be no better than a suicide hotline where they coach you how to load the bullets and cock the trigger, no ???? Quit getting butthurt people and start listening to the whats and whys our successful vets are trying to tell you...........it's for your own good. Damn. Just damn.
  4. Sure.....we can all just get along. However.....we can also take it to a higher level by nudging some silly notions outa each other's noggins from time to time. I know for a damn fact that my trajectory has been improved a number of times by the vets here....who posted their opinions that were clearly against my grain and yet their wisdoms hit home. There is no substitute for experience. My opinion is that only a fool would shirk that wisdom, when provided. I've learned to listen carefully.....evaluate and then either incorporate it or call it rubbish and move on. I'm all about not reinventing the wheel. If a template for success is laid out in front of me......why in the hell do I want to venture down an alternate path ???????? I'm a hardheaded guy and don't listen well at times......but I've become a quick study when needed......in crunch times. I consider the health scares I've had the year leading up to my VSG such a "crunch time". I've listened carefully to those who've gone before me......and I am better for it. I've learned to accept life according to the words of a woman that I cherish......"Suck it up Buttercup" and move forward. Only a damn fool would denounce the collective wisdoms of successful patients who've made 2+ years and beyond and are rocking the results. Only a damn fool.................

I am a newbie and I welcome advice from all of you Vets. This community would not be very helpful without Vets sharing wisdom and experience. Please don't stop! ( that includes the humor and funny observations...great for a laugh or two)

Amen! Sometimes being shaken up by a little "tough love" from a vet is exactly what a person needs to get their head back in the game and reevaluate. And guess what? If you don't like what someone has to say - scroll past, it really IS that simple.

I always welcome advice from veterans who have been successful with their weight loss. I'm 8 months out from surgery and I still learn things about VSG every day.

  6. Keep on staying strict and things will swing in your favor......stick with it.

    Goin fishin?

You are a tougher man than me, bro. Day after surgery all I wanted to do was take naps and walk every couple hours. Also, I'm one of those "prepare for the worst and hope for the best" dudes. Perfect conditions....ripping a lip or two....fine. But what if you slipped and fell.....went in.....etc. I'd pass for a couple weeks.....but again.....I'm a wimp.

    Cheese itz?

Nope......they taste like crack rocks.......load 'em in the pipe and smoker yer back out........... Sorry......I've got a thing for those little tasty morsels of death. Then.....after my VSG they come out with Sriracha flavor.....white cheese flavor........Holy Hell why day do dat ???? Bastards !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good damn thing I avoid the crack rock....I mean cracker aisle in the grocery store. I pretty much just shop the perimeter of the store and roll on. you are the best @@Dub you make me laugh so often. I love people who make me laugh. Just trying to keep it real.

    Cheese itz?

Another newbie here, too. In the overall scheme of things we are all newbies, no ??? Your post made me laugh. Ooooohhhhhhh chile. Grinning hugely at that. Good stuff. You are right. No judging.....just a knee-jerk reaction to cheezits. It reminds me of when I quit smoking.......and my wife started smoking two days later.....wut ? Are ya shittin' me, woman ?????? True story. Bish tortured me that way. Opening up a box of Cheezits would be just like that for me......torture. OP may have much stronger resolve. I'm a weak mofo.

    Cheese itz?

I love you for this! I love goldfish! I'm so excited to learn that I'll be able to eat them in the future! I seriously have the appetite of a 4-year-old, lmao! You'll be able to have whatever you want one day. Anything at all. It's all about getting through the weight loss phases and leveling off at maintenance living. Eat wisely and closely monitor your weight. Have a normal way of eating that supports a healthy weight and a gameplan for swift corrective action that keeps you there. At a loved one's birthday party and want some cake?........sure. Eat cake everyday?.........I don't think so....not unless one can carve out the time to offset it with heaps of cardio or other.....

    Cheese itz?

Cheezits were one of the junk foods that i used to become a morbidly obese mofo. I shelled out a large chunk of $$$$ to self fund surgery to help me with weight loss. Why in the hell would I ever consider adding back such a food when I'm just beginning the weight loss stages. I'm sorry....but this concept is no different than the recovering alcoholic who says he's gonna just limit himself to "one shot a day". Bad idea. Opening the door to all sorts of evil to rush in........
  12. Damnrite !!! Finally....having a penis matters in something significant. Heck yes.....bring it !!! I've found that one thing really seems to be universal among all the wls patients, both with and without a penis, is that we tend to lose more in that first post op month if we had good momentum going into the surgery. Our bodies are flushing out the Water weight and the post-op inflammation more quickly. Just my broscience theory.......
  13. Very well done @@BigHarleyGuy1 and @@Sharon1964 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Inspirational transformations right there in front of our eyes. Kicking arse and taking names !!!!!
  14. I haven't had the opportunity to read the other replies here.....running out of casual time this afternoon, lol. I can simply answer your question with my own experiences with my VSG. It was a walk in the park. Easy. Simple. Straightforward on the recovery. Almost everyone on my bariatric center's private FB page has posted the same results. I didn't see the negative reports until joining here and also on youtube. I think that there are an overwhelming majority of folks who have their wls and rock it. They move on in life and don't look back. You'll not hear much from this crowd. Same thing I see at work. There are the quiet performers who nail down their responsibilities and do their job at high levels.......then there are the noisy and outspoken under achievers who voice complaint after complaint. Just my opinion, experience and observation. Take it for what it's worth. I'll say that without a doubt having my VSG was one of the best decisions of my life.

What Gets You Going for Your Workout?

So now I have to ask @@Dub , what's in the magical pre-workout energy drink....sounds like good stuff Lately it's been this stuff......
  16. Grilled chicken breast ???? Oh yeah.....I'm a fan. Great & tasty source of Protein for a sleever. Sliced, diced or shredded with rubs and/or sauces. All good.
  17. Heck yes !!!!! Five months post-op I took a killer vacation and had much fun (first time flying in years.....plenty of room in the seat)......tremendous amount of walking. Followed it up three weeks later with a 7-day cruise where I hit the ship's gym quite often. I was more than ready for the challenges posed. Go for it !!!!!
  18. Here's hoping that your life continues to be felled with joy and positivity. Consider taking some nice gifts for your hospital caregivers, too. Something tells me they are gonna earn them.....

    Struggling with food

When you stop and think about it.......really think about it.........the only thing we truly have control over in our lives is what we put in our mouths.
  20. Where's the tequila and limes ????? Just kidding. I wasn't allowed to wear anything but their no-slip socks as far as footwear was concerned. Most important things I took: Pillow for ride home.....hold against abdomen and relax. Post op pain med prescription filled for the ride home. iPhone loaded with an iBook, iTunes and my earbuds. Anker remote battery for easy recharges and no need to reach for a wall outlet...able to keep everything on my rolling table. Gas-X strips were taken but never used.

    What am I doing wrong?

Impossible to answer without knowing your stats. Short answer is to keep on track with your plan and with the exercise and the weight will come off. Steady is better than rapid-then-stall cycles, in my opinion.
  22. My surgeon said during my 4 week follow-up appointment, "As you move forward please keep in mind to puree with your teeth, my friend, chew things very, very well". Made perfect sense to me then.....and I followed accordingly. I don't chew as much now as then......and it's something that I should get back to. It slows down eating and you'll enjoy the flavors more......and actually eat less. It's a good habit to get into now.
  23. I had the luxury of working with two surgeons during my pre-op experiences. Both were highly capable and I felt good with either. The one I ultimately went with was a straightforward, no punches pulled sort of guy. I asked for his opinion on many issues and he delivered. It helped me tremendously. He's always kept the plan for me very simple and easy to follow. There have been on mysteries or weirdness to the path forward after my VSG. I have highly recommended him to the people that I've discussed my experiences with. I'm planning on using him in the future to repair another hernia that he's been monitoring. I wish he did knee replacements and shoulder repairs as I'm needing those, too, lol.

    Gum

I was advised not to by surgeon. The only thing you want in your mouth at that point is something easy to digest. You have a stomach that is in a severe state of recovery. You want to be kind to it. You'll be drowsy those first several days as meds wear off. You'll most likely be in a reclined position when you are resting. Not such a good situation for having gum in mouth and possibly swallowing. Chewing some crushed ice works fine if you have that need to chew.

What Gets You Going for Your Workout?

It can be different aspects that help me get fired up about hitting the gym or going for a long walk outside. Being in the gym near my home means I'm going to be surrounded by motivated folks who are pushing themselves. Great stuff to be in the middle of. Somedays, I get enthused about going just because it's a place where I can got and crank some tunes on my earbuds and enjoy being lost in a crowd and tuning out of life's demands for an hour or two. When I'm at work.....I look forward to slipping into our gym there for a quick lunchtime session. It is great for stress relief. Somedays......I don't know what gets me there.....I just go on in. Sore, knees aching, shoulder sore....I just go. Get on the dreadmill and start an uphill walk....and the tunes......and not really think about a thing at all....just relax and keep bumping up the speed and incline.....time passes....calories are burned.....I feel better for it afterwards. Somedays, it's just an excuse to mix up a pre-workout energy drink and feel the rush, lol.
