  1. Congrats! That's a great accomplishment! I plan on buying some new clothes to help celebrate breaking my weight level. Or maybe a nice pedicure, since I haven't one I a while!

    Brushing Teeth

I had that feeling too for the first few weeks. Once I started eating regular food it seemed to subside and now I don't have that feeling anymore. Your entire body has to readjust! I even started to have back pain due to my spine being used to carrying all that extra weight and then losing rapidly, it needed time to adjust. Best of luck and know that you are not alone in your feelings.
  3. I have had great luck with protein bars despite their thickness. I still have issues with meat but not the bars. Just try little bites at a time. Best of luck. Btw, i had my RNY June 16.

    Only 0.7 in a week?

I know that the week of my period I didn't lose any weight, I actually gained on some days but nothing more than a pound. Once my TOM was over the weight started to come off again. I don't know if that is your situation, it's just what happened to me.
  5. I have been having this sharp pain on my right side around where my liver incision is. I am 4 weeks out of surgery and this pain has been going on for about 4 days now. It seems to worsen when I sit or am crunched over. Standing and lying down used to remedy the pain but now it is sore to sleep on that side where it was fine a couple of days ago. Any thoughts? I am calling the dr today when the office opens, praying it's nothing serious. Gas pills do not seem to help the pain.

    Dull pain in lower back

I have been having terrible back pain as well. My hubby says it is because my back is used to carrying around a lot more weight than it is now and it needs to adjust for my new lighter weight, I am almost 4 weeks out. As far as the dark urine, was it just from the tea?
  7. I took pictures also. After 2 weeks, I put one the same outfit and took another set of pics. Wow what a difference! Definitely helps with the motivation. I completely understand no the feeling of how did I let myself get this way! I was always super skinny until I got pregnant with my first child then I packed on the weight since then. He is now getting ready to turn 18, so I guess the "it's baby weight" excuse must go! Lol.

    Feeling blah....

Thank you so much for the encouragement. It takes about 30-45 minutes for me to drink half a protein shake. Hopefully I was just having a bad day yesterday. I feel much more motivated this morning.
  9. I am about 2 days shy of being three weeks post op and I still cannot get my recommended water intake or protein intake goals met. I am just not that hungry or thirsty. The only thing that tastes good is saltine crackers with some diet margarine. I know protein is super important but I cannot seem to get it down. I can drink half a protein shake and then I am done with it. Any suggestions?

    Living with gas

Ok, so I am calling on all you veteran RNY-ers, I got rid of the gas from the surgery but I am still gassy more than I was before surgery. Is this just something that I am going to have to live with forever or is it just my new body trying to adjust. I'm kinda getting tired of being able to keep up with my husband in the passing gas department.

    Surgery is on Monday!

I am 12 days out and I did have pain. Most notably the first time they made me get out of bed to try to go to the bathroom on my own on day 2. I remember crying to my hubby because it hurt so bad and thinking at one point I was never going to make it through. It did get better even by the end of the day. Negotiating getting out of the hospital bed was the worst but every time you move it gets a little easier and by day 3, I was ready to leave the hospital and go recover in my own home. I could not stand laying in that hospital bed any longer and I needed to get up and just wander around with out having my bottom stick out of my hospital gown. Looking back, gas was a major contributor to the pain that I felt. Once I started to pass gas again, the relief from that pressure and pain started to dissipate. Best of luck to you! Just remember the end goal, it will help you get through the bad stuff.

    Emotional Wreck

I am so glad you wrote this post. I am a little short of two weeks post op and I have been crying at really stupid stuff. Very emotional. Good to know from the other replies that I, (we) are perfectly normal. Best of luck on feeling better.

    Losing faith in myself

don't be so hard on yourself. We all have this issue of not getting up off the couch to exercise. That is why we are here. I think that you are trying to do too many good things for yourself at one time and it seems like a insurmountable hill to climb. I used to do the same thing!! I suggest picking on thing and working on that. One of my professors used to say, you don't eat a whole apple pie at once do you? (ok, well that might be a bad example cause I could totally eat an entire apple pie but its the idea) You eat it one piece at a time. Start first by stopping chewing gum. Something fairly easy so you can have a success and then once that habit is nixed, go on to another habit. Best of luck to you in your endeavor! I know you can do it!!
  14. Hi all! I am currently 44 but will be turning 45 the week of my surgery, (the 15th). My heaviest was about a week ago at 257. I don't have diabetes yet but I am on my way there if I don't do something about it now. I feel like a bit of a complainer because I do not weigh as much as most of the people that I see in the doctor's office and the meetings. However, I look at my 11 year old daughter and I know that I need to be there for her and teach her good habits; she is starting to pack on some additional pounds herself. I have tried several times to lose weight but just ended up packing on more pounds. I just started my pre-op liver shrink diet yesterday. It is 3 weeks long and only allows me 1000 calories a day. Those 1000 calories come from 4 Meal Replacement shakes, a small piece of fruit, a 300 calorie or less frozen dinner a day. I thought it was going to be harder than it has been but again, this is only day two. I am sure my willpower will be tested.
