  1. I am 7 months out and can pretty much eat anything without being hurt. I choose not to eat Pasta or bread. If I order a sandwich, I remove the bread. I can still eat so little and the bread has no nutrition. I do eat carbs. I have oatmeal for Breakfast and Greek yogurt for Snacks. I eat cheese and I even had dressing on Thanksgiving. The only thing I really "miss" is soda. The desire for them is getting better but a part of me misses them. It's not so much that I can't have something, it is that I am choosing something better for me instead.

  2. I have a funny story about the psych eval. I had mine 2 weeks after my baby was born. She had a difficult delivery (43 hours of labor followed by a C-section). Had to take her back to hospital the day after she was released. Had a 5 day hospital stay. Then I am home for 4 days and get a call that she has the CF gene and had to get further testing. Had my psych eval 3 days prior to my daughters genetic test so I was in a state. I started crying in his office so he approved my surgery but wanted me to see another psychologist in the practice. Fast forward 2 weeks, my daughter was OK, I got a new job, and I finally got some sleep. The new psychologist said (after an hour talk), "Well, I'm not really sure why he referred you to me, because you seem absolutely normal."

December will be busy for you, but that's a good thing. Good luck on this journey!

  3. I wish I would have done this in my 20's. Definitely go to a seminar. They will be able to answer a lot of questions for you especially specific questions. Initially the calories are very low. I am 7 months out and get about 700 to 1000. My doctor wants me at 800 to 1500. The upper end on the days I work out. It is still hard for me to get in that many calories. My doctor does yearly nutrition tests. I just had my first one at 6 months out. My Iron is low, but it has already been low. Everything else is great. I continue to work with my nutritionist as well. It's a lifelong journey and it is more about the quality of food versus the quantity of calories.

I have 0 regrets. Well, except that I didn't do it sooner.

  4. My husband and I both had the sleeve done so when often share a plate at restaurants. We are not afraid to order a la carte and ask for to go boxes. Yes, we get the "look" and often the manager will come over to see if something was wrong because we ate so little. We usually just let them know that we had gastric sleeve surgery and cannot eat very much. We even ask to order off the children's menu. Some restaurants will let you.

  5. The liquid diet is not the most fun. BUT...it is for a cause...a good cause. You cannot really "fail" the 2 week liquid diet. The shrinking of your liver just helps the surgeon navigate better.

I had a baby 6 weeks before I had my sleeve done. I was breast feeding and I was always hungry. I cheated a few times. My surgeon mentioned that my liver wasn't as small as he had hoped, but I had no complications.

  6. I was ok until the day of surgery. I mean, I just had a baby 6 weeks before surgery...nothing could be scarier than that. Then, everything kinda hit me...my life is going to change. My relationship with food is really going to change. But, my surgeon came in, reassured me he was going to take care of me and then I was out.

I am just over 6 months out now. Down 134 pounds (104 since day of surgery) and all my labs are completely normal. I have zero regrets. I now work out 6 days a week. I have muscles! food is not my motivator or comforter any more.

You got this. Just a few more days!

  7. Welcome, Josh! Hope you and your wife can do this together. My hubby and I had our surgeries 3 weeks from each other. He is my biggest supporter and encourager. I have PCOS also so I understand what your wife goes through. We have zero regrets about our surgery. We just had our 6 month lab work and we are completely normal on everything from blood pressure to Protein. That's a first for us!

I encourage you to ask questions of your doctors, nutritionist, etc. Start making changes now and that will help you later. If you can start getting more active. The surgery is a tool (you will hear this a lot). After surgery it is all up to you. This is a great forum!
