  1. Ok, so I figured out how to navigate this app and post a topic! Yay! OK so I recently had an A1C done and it's high, diagnosed with high cholesterol 2 years ago, tried every med to bring it down and either they don't work or I have had severe allergic reactions to them. My BMI is 40+ at 5'11 300lbs. I have been there done that when it comes to weightloss and diets....so I have come to the decision to make this surgery a reality. I have been looking at the bariatric pal specials and am torn between Dr.Ponce and Dr.V, Wondering, if anyone has done this on the special, and would really like a detailed description as I am so nervous to make this commitment. Also, would like to know why no one ever comments on the price of the OCC ? I initially was going to start the process with them but the fact that no one comments on price feels a little shady.

Anyone have Dr. Mayotorena ? I'm sure I spelled it wrong but please post if you had him. Thanks in advance.
  3. David sent me an email that had a link to patient history form but it's not working, any one know where else I can find it ? I did email him about it but it's late and wanted to do it now while I have time.

    Smoking ?

I have been doing my research and I see that some people are required to take a nicotine test before surgery. I am currently a smoker, not a pack a day but none the less a smoker and it is a battle for me because when I try to quit , my weight increases dramatically then become stressed out and go back to smoking. My question is if I stop smoking and start chewing the cessation gum a month prior to surgery will I be denied because of weight gain during the pre-op diet phase, and because I have nicotine in my system from either the patch or the gum ? Has anyone had to overcome this obstacle ?

    August 2015 Sleevers for Tijuana?

@@sunshine72 , everyone in these groups are pretty supportive and seem to look out for eachother, so please take heed and do the research and please come back and let us know you're safe :-)
  9. If you google photos of "lap chole" you will see what I mean...this is the near exact place your sleeve scars will be with the exception of one extra larger one where they pull the stomach out.
  10. I was thinking of the same thing !! When I had my gall removed by lap , he allowed me my under wear but not my bra because on of the incisions is right in the lower bra line. Sorry meant "one of the"
  11. The link to check if a surgeon is bariatric certified is all in spanish.....I want to see a certificate for bariatric ' s on all the surgeons that are affiliates of bariatric pal, is that possible ?
  12. I don't have any money to share but I shared it on my face book page.
  13. Not to be rude but curious where you got your information about anesthesia raising the blood pressure? I have been an LPN for 11 years and now a RN,BSN....as far as I know anesthesia drops the blood pressure and sometimes too low. I could be wrong but that is why I'm asking. Even though I have been a nurse for many years , this is all new teratory for me and I am terribly nervous.

The Truth about Weight Loss Agents...

Wow this is very sad :-(....... There is a few post on here from a while back ....maybe 5/6 months ago about a few doctors that are doing bad business, it's things like this that make me want to reconsider.

    Lololololololoookokol I'm sooooo confused.
  16. This is where the education and seminars come in, I understood very clearly it is permanent, you MUST build muscle and exercise, hence "protein first" to help maintain muscle mass , and 4-6 Oz is not forever ......eventually you will be able to eat slightly more BUT if 3 years later 4-6 Oz is all you can fit at a time ?? That sounds great! It's kinda the point....smaller portions more often......your surgeon did a great job. And if you gained weight you went back to old habits and your sleeve can't be that small after all.

6 months waived at 49.3 BMI?

They wave it at that BMI because you are considered to be an immediate risk. You have to think about the situation you're putting your self in and how serious your co morbidities are if you gain more weight.

    Smoking ?

OK not sure why Hooka was blocked out but otherwise known as a vapor pen.

    Smoking ?

I forgot to mention, I have not smoked actual cigarettes in a while, I actually use a hookah pen and just add juice that has nicotine in it, but I have a consult in 3 weeks so I will definitely bring it up then.

    Smoking ?

My lord !, second hand smoke really ? That's horrible, especially if your not even a smoker, what if it's the spouse ? Can't kick your spouse out if they don't stop smoking. And a lot of these sound like doctors are going over board and probably never been smokers. I say this because when I was 21 , I had to have my gallbladder removed and I was a heavy smoker then....I was out the bed and moving around the next day, never had any complications nor was smoking ever mentioned. My PCP now was a smoker and has been smoke free for 5 years, but he said it took him years to quit and his approach with me is totally different than with docs who have never smoked....if I'm making sense, sorry it's very early.

    Smoking ?

    Yes I can agree :-)
  25. Just posted this question, but figured it's best here since I intend to go to mexico. Anyone smoke pre sleeve? I know it's bad and every time I try to quit I gain huge amounts of weight, which leads me back to smoking. If I quit and gain weight during preoperative diet will they deny me, or if I quit and start using patch or gum will they deny me for having nicotine in my system ?
