  1. I was very surprised to read they were swinging by White Castle and eating turkey sandwiches (I assume with the bread) so quickly after surgery. Could be indicative of them not losing as much as they hoped? Not judging them, just curious how close they followed their plans. The article sort of implied you could never get thin from having this surgery, and as a lot of people on this site can attest to, this is not necessarily true. They are both eating the same as before just in child sized amount which spells FAILURE. That girl is going to regain almost all her weight in the next 3 to 5 years. Neither of them made real lifestyle changes. The comments about people losing everything in the first year then afterward being the same struggle as non surgery stuck out also. They make it seem like if you don't lose it in a year it's impossible. I was surprised to see the dr even saying that. Which tells me they are relying on surgery and surgery effects and not on lifestyle changes. Even though I find it annoying. They are typical patients. I'm rare in the fact that I lost 130 at the one year mark and another 45 afterward, and I am still losing at a decent pace at 18 months. I attribute it to lifestyle changes, mainly my way of eating and doing the mental work. Still it is nice to see more science about being fat instead of just a lack of willpower. Also the reason we on here think that people do get thin and make it to normal weights is because those people that are successful and want to share stand out. They stick around, they offer advice. They stand out because they are rare. Most people never hit goal or close and leave the weight loss community until they regain all or almost all of their weight. So forums gives us a skewed view of success. If we really think about. There are less than 50 people that post here on a regular basis that are at a normal BMI.
  2. I love this article. I'm also feeling pretty smug about the lackluster results they got with the "gold standard" gastric bypass. The girl realizing that she was screwing up at life because of her own choices and not being able to use being fat as a crutch stood out to me. They both seemed to have not the best food choices or diet. Edited to add. I have a similar feeling about foods. I have wrote about it here before. There is a complete disconnect between my head and my stomach. I can think and crave whatever food I want, my stomach doesn't react. I only get physically hungry if I have not eaten in 16 to 24 hours. I never get physical hunger. I crave things but one bite is usually enough for me if that. I very rarely crave anything off plan. My sleeve is golden and is working perfectly for me.
  3. Coffee Heavy whipping cream Pork chops Baby spinach Gross fed ground beef
  4. If your insurance covers it. You have to have documented rashes, skin issues. If they pay they just pay to remove the skin, so you have a nasty scar and are disfigured. If you want it doneasy and have it look good, you need to pay the difference for plastics.
  5. How are you getting in enough calories for orange fitness? It looks like you are barely breaking 800 calories a day.
  6. NM, I see this wont be like the other challenges. Good luck guys.
  7. You don't need Protein at this point to build muscle. Morbidly obese people have a lot of muscle to carry the extra weight. You keep your protein up to keep you satisfied and to keep the muscle you have. Also protein won't turn to fat as easily as carbs. Because I also workout pretty often I try to aim for higher protein to also build up my muscle mass the fair life milk has 13grams and 1 scoop of my protein powder is 30 grams alone so one shake with nothing extra added would be 43grams 30 minimum if i substitute the milk for Water. However you are right I do need to do better at spacing them out. Thank you for your input
  8. You have to space your eating out. And do it all through the day. I would never blow 380 calories on a Protein shake. I would just make my shakes with Water only. And also really you should be eating every 2 to 3 hours to get your calories in. Piling them all in at one meal is not going to work for you long term.
  9. I eat all the cheese I want as long as it is real cheese (no fake cheese BS like American or Provel) and it is full fat. Low fat cheese has carbs and more fillers. I like the extra then cheddar slices for my burgers. One slice is 50 calories and it adds just enough cheese. And I eat a lot cream cheese. I make low carb cream cheese pancakes and I have cream cheese as deserts/snacks.
  10. Why torture yourself going out to when you can't eat? I didn't go to resturants with people until I could eat something. We make our own luck in life. Do not make your life harder than it has to be.
  11. It makes people feel better to see people worse off than they are. I don't like the Doctor. I also really don't like watching people that poor. They are almost always in abusive dysfunctional relationships. I like fat doctor UK better. The whole thing is sad.
  12. If you started at 192 and you lost 10 lbs that is around 5% of your body weight. Low BMI people are not going to drop 30 lbs in the first 6 weeks. These posts are getting more and more ridiculous
  13. It depends a lot on where you live, what you like to eat and where you shop. I eat about a pound of dense Protein a day, at 18 months. What that protein is and how much it costs varies based not what I want and what is available. Early on you need to budget for Protein shakes. Just don't buy too much at once. Buy as you go. Stocking up is a waste of money.
  14. Control top tights a day pantyhose actually offer some control! I always thought they never worked, but they work with limitations, lol. Like not being a whale to start with?
  15. I'm talking about real food addicts. There are people that post here eat fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy their first week home. There is no hope for those people. If they are willing to ignore the pain and potential death of eating real food that early post-op, they are beyond helping. I'm not talking about the person that has a hard time walking past the donuts in the office break room. Read here long enough and you will see some truly amazing things. Wow. No cure for addiction does not mean no life absent our triggers. I know so many wonderful people living in recovery, including my mother with 21 years sobriety. I am expecting to struggle with certain trigger foods (chocolate and baked goods for me) all my life. Avoiding them works best for me now, and very likely after the sleeve too. The vast majority of us food addicts have successfully abstained many times. And eventually returned to these foods and/or beverages. I love the original post on N this thread. Thank you for the compassionate and clear reminder. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  16. I just walked. You can lose a lot of weight just walking.
  17. You can have whatever spices you want as long as you aren't having Gerd issues.
  18. Whoa. I couldn't eat 10 Cookies now. I definitely couldn't eat them that early. And I dumped at that point. I don't dump now. And I dumped after eating get out and the chicken salad have sugar in it. If you can eat like this, this soon post-op you are in real danger. Please find a therapist and work on your food issues.
  19. I have been able to eat like that for a while. Probably since month 9 definitely at month 12. A lot of the things that people worry about like very small capacity are for a very limited time like the first 6 months, unless you have some other issues going on.
  20. Don't go. At 3 weeks it isn't worth it. Rest.
  21. How many months post op are you? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Almost 18
  22. I guess you guys don't read all the posts on the forum. There are lots of people with 30 and 31 BMI that get sleeved in Mexico.
  23. @@bodyslmmn I use a kitchen scale. I started with 2 ounces and worked my way up to the 4-5 ounce range.
  24. We will see if you still feel like this next December. I like to think there are people who just read and absorb, and don't get into the fray. I'm writing mostly for them. And from now on when this kind of post gets made, I'll link back to this one as my only comment and move along. LOL. sent from mobile device
  25. I don't have RNY I'm a sleever bu6 I never get comfort from being full now if I get full it is painful and uncomfortable. I'm almost 18 month post op.
