Habits for WLS success after restriction eases up
Well my restriction is the same as a sleever. Weigh my food, track my calories. Do not eat my feelings.

Sleeve Veterans: What makes you successful long term?
First I want to say that at 2 year currently I don’t consider myself a success because, losing weight is easy, maintaining is the hard part. I really hope that some people that have maintain for some years post here. Most of the posts from long term WLS patients are about their failures, regain and trying to “get back on the wagon”. We need more positive posts for people that are doing well and enjoying their post-op life. Hopefully this can be a resource for other people. I followed my post-op plan to the letter almost for the first 6 months. I did not heavily experiment, I did not push limits. I did not advance my food stages. This provided a mental reset that completely changed my outlook and relationship with food. The mental reset from following the food stages and changing my relationship with food in the first 6 months was the most valuable experience. I do not feel deprived. I found a way of eating that does not feel like a diet. I can eat food that I enjoy and I still really love and enjoy eating food. Food enriches my life, it doesn’t control my life. Weighing my Food Tracking my Food Weigh myself every morning, record it once a week Staying calorie aware and spending my daily calories like currency Planning for eating out. If I am going to eat out for dinner, I allot extra calories for dinner and cut back on my food earlier in the day. If I eat lunch out then I cut back on dinner. I exceed my initial goal for myself pretty rapidly (250) and I have gone further in my weight loss than I ever dreamed I could when I started this. All the benefits from being so close to a normal BMI motivate me to defend my weight loss diligently. I know the difference between being morbidly obese and just being overweight and being overweight is far more comfortable.

When does hunger return?
Immediately or never, lol. It is different for everyone. I had head hunger pretty much right away. Anyone will on a liquid diet. Physical hunger? Very very rarely. I pretty much have to go 12 to 16 hours without eating to get physically hungry and then my sleeve is so small it is very easy to ignore, too easy honestly. I can easily go 24-36 hours without eating. Which is why I track my food so my app reminds me to eat. I have pretty much zero physical hunger. My head hunger is very low at this point. I love food and I still really enjoy my food but it doesn't rule my life. Just meet your protein goals. I also found the further out I got from surgery and the less fear I had about eating possibly hurting, the more I was willing to eat.

Have I already ruined it??
@erinhazey Pouch reset is a FAD diet and completely useless. You already said what you needed to do. Which is weigh your portions and not eyeball them. Also you are healing you are SUPPOSED to be able to eat more as time goes on. I started off only being able to eat an ounce at a time and I could eat 2-3 ounces by your point. By 6 months it was 3-4. I'm 2 years out and I can eat 4-6. This is dense protein. I can eat endless amounts of sliders like just about everyone else. If you are eating protein, alone and protein first, you almost never have to worry about over eating, what you can eat is limited. You will also be full longer. Learn to work with your sleeve instead of against it. Liquids, soft foods, sliders. They all work AGAINST your tool, not with it. The sleeve isn't like bypass or other surgeries. The best tool we have is our restriction and that resriction is triggered by DENSE protein. You are early out so your protein can only be so dense, but protein is always going to make you the fullest, and give you the most satisfaction. It will prevent you from making bad choices and other mistakes because it is satisfying and takes up all the room in your sleeve. Make your life easy and work with your surgery and not against it.

Lifeway Protein Kefir
You can buy it on amazon but it has terrible macros for a bariatric patient. The sugar is equal to the carbs, 20 to 20. Most programs want you to limit protein drinks to 5g of sugar or less per serving. Also there are 2 servings per bottle so that is 40 carbs. Contrast that with a premier protein shake which is 5 carbs.

Zinc for hair loss?
I just take 50 mg, you don't really need a lot, you just need to make sure it is not low. http://a.co/6TXDcsp

Just a little vent!
It is no different than have a script, Insurance makes you wait 30 days. The insurance that requires the 6 months are really picky. Be glad you have a good program that knows the rules and follows them. So many people have one little mistake set them back. It is so late in the year, that a mistake at this point means 2018 surgery.

Drinking liquids with the sleeve
2 years out I pretty much drink like anyone else that has not had WLS. I can chug 12-16 ounces without taking a breath. I could drink about 8 ounces at one year. When I had my sleeve I had a live swallow test and and you can pretty much see that liquids instantly start seeping through the valve at the bottom of your stomach. I only wait 30 minutes before and after meals to drink. I also take sips with meals if I am eating something dry.

Dating is hard
I have a friend that lost weight without WLS and she taught me some tricks about how to eat very little on dates and not attract a lot of attention. If you are dating and eating out all the time, you can easily gain weight, especially a woman that has a normal stomach so you have to learn how to eat without really eating too much. I feel like men accept that you are not able to eat all your food when you order a lot of food. I order normal entrees. You just draw attention to the fact that you are not eating much by not ordering much. When you are eating very little and other people are pigging out, that makes them nervous and self conscious. Salads with protein are the best because you can eat all the protein some of the salad greens push it all around and they don't care. They don't want to eat salad either. Split an appetizer with them, tell them you just wanted a taste and a big strong guy like them needs it more than you I don't drink or smoke. I also look 10 to 12 years younger than I am. I claim my youthful looks are because I don't drink, smoke and I eat well. Really it is just genetics but they don't know my mom is in her 60s with no wrinkles. Talking a lot and being engaging, they won't notice you aren't eating if you are flirting hard enough and have some good stories to tell. You have to have a plan of attack before a date so you aren't caught off guard. Also I think this is probably a hard sell for you, considering the area of the country you live in. Everyone on the coasts, or in other major metros are doing some kind of special diet, so most people don't bat an eye when you tell them you are low carbing. Another thing to think about is, try to pick men that are into fitness. They are not going to expect a woman of a certain age to be a glutton. I go for the outdoors active types. The swimmers, hikers, cyclists, water sports.

Can't sleep comfortably!
I slept on my side and my stomach on night 3 or 4 by supporting my stomach. Wearing a binder or some light shapewear will hold you in tighter and it shouldn't be an issue.

Best WLS for my weight? Process?
Unless a Dr only does one (my Dr only does the Sleeve which is why I chose him), most will talk to you about the surgery and let you choose. I would NEVER let a Dr choose for me. They don't live with the surgery, you do.

Dating is hard
Well you dodged a bullet. She is used to bums and isn't used to being treated nicely. In the end she would have treated you badly because she doesn't feel worthy of a good man. When people show you what kind of person they are, believe them. She was a low quality woman and you are lucky you didn't waste time on her. If a guy isn't contacting me on a daily basis, and he hasn't told me before hand he is busy. He goes to the bottom of the pile or is blocked.

Dating is hard
I don't think it is moving too fast either. That is pretty much expected behavior from a man that is seriously trying to court you. Men ask you on casual dates when they are trying to be casual. I have certain expectations on how I want to be treated and I expect a man to meet those expectations. I feel like if you ask someone out and they don't want to do that kind of date, then they are not the person for you. People should date like minded compatible people. The issue is, no one courts or dates like civilized people anymore. I am not with that Netflix and chill or sit in Starbucks like it is the library BS. Back to OP. Dating is a numbers game, you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find a prince. If you are serious about dating you need to date 2 to 3 guys at a time and let the best man win. Dating one guy at a time is a huge waste for a lot of reasons. I always think after WLS we blame a lot of issues on WLS, when really it is just hard to find someone period.

Rice/pasta alternatives
Overall I don't have the room for them, even at 2 years after eating my protein. It isn't really worth it to make a side to only have one bite or 2. Zucchini noodles work well and so does riced cauliflower.

@Asil61 Do you like seafood? Mexican is a bad choice for a variety of reasons, mainly beacuse it is something that people volume eat. Most plates come with 3 to 4 tacos, so eating one stands out. If you have to get Mexican, why not get Fajitas or Quesadilla? You say you low carb, lots of people low carb now, and just eat the meat and veggies. I do this a lot especially if I go to a sports bar or something and there are limited options on the menu. Just eating the filling from a Quesadilla is not that filling and if you say you low carb before hand, you don't raise eyebrows.

Best WLS for my weight? Process?
Well your Surgeon can tell you the best surgery. With a family history of diabetes, RNY, the Gastric bypass might be your best choice. All programs are different in what they require. Usually you have to so some pre-op testing to qualify for surgery. 6 months nutrition and weigh-ins might be required. You have to look at the requirements for your insurance and the program you choose.

Dating is hard
Well, I'm pretty smooth and charming so I want someone that is like me. I dress to impress and I want someone that matches and is comfortable with my lifestyle. I don't think it is worth getting dressed, doing my hair and makeup for a coffee date. I know a lot of people don't share this perspective which is exactly why I adopted it. It weeds out a lot of men that are a waste of my time. I used to do coffee dates like 2 years ago. I found that the kind of men that asked me out for coffee were not the kind of man that interested me, so I stopped doing it. Guys that are introverts are going to ask you to coffee, they want to avoid crowded situations. These are exactly the men I want to avoid like the plague. I have negative interest in dating an introvert, being friends with one, or just associating with them in general. I am an extrovert and I like to be surrounded by other extroverts. I find introverts to just be energy vampires. The coffee date guys are also just mass dating. They are doing coffee dates because it is a cheap way to check someone out without much time or money investment. Those guys are the real players. They ask you to coffee so they can verify how pretty you are or not, and then they ask you out on a real date if you pass the coffee date test. They ask you to coffee, then try to push it into dinner and invite you back to their place. Rolling 3 dates into one night with the goal of taking you to pound town. A busy professional male with a worthwhile career doesn't have time for coffee dates if he is really looking for something real. Guys that are players are trying to date the most amount of women for the least cost and time investment. They are not buying concert tickets or taking you to MLB games. I used to be a hiring manager in IT. I can gauge if I am going to click with someone in a few text messages. I am a good judge of character for the most part. After that I want to see how you act in public and what your mannerisms are like in a few situations. I like being out and about and doing lots of activity and things, always have. I want to avoid homebodies and the quiet evenings at home guys like the plague. Since I refined my dating requirements, I am going on higher quality dates with higher quality men. Basically getting exactly what I want from dating.

Speaking Engagement on Bariatric Sleeve Surgery and the first hand knowledge
That is kind of my point though. People just talk about complication, weight loss, and healthy life style changes. No one ever really talks about emotional or identity issues that don't involve breaking up your marriage, or transfer addictions. It is all the same old thing you can just read about.

Speaking Engagement on Bariatric Sleeve Surgery and the first hand knowledge
I'm sure a lot of people would like to hear about your experiences. The thing is individual experiences vary a lot. Dr orders vary a lot. How people respond to surgery varies a lot. I had already spent a lot of time educating myself on surgery and even post-op life. In the end my experience has been unlike anything I have read about or watched on TV.

Different Hair
Hormones can change your hair. Even if you are post menopausal, your body gets flood with hormones from burning fat. I have a lot of curly/wavy friends that get straight hair after having babies. Certain vitamins can also loosen the curl pattern for some people.

After Surgery Taste Issues
My tastes never changed at all. I did however get really sick of having sweet stuff all the time, because I wasn't living on sweets before surgery, the idea of living on sweet stuff all day post-op was just stupid to me. I did a lot of broth with unflavored protein powder.

Dating is hard
Well I date a lot in spurts. I think that men who comment on how much eat on a date are rude, not worth seeing again and also probably cheap, really not worth seeing again. I dated this guy that insisted I get a box, even though I didn't want one and wasn't going to eat the food later. If I get a box for my food I always toss it in the dumpster before I walk in my Apt anyway. I don't do first date coffee dates. It is a complete waste of my time. Guys that ask me on Coffee dates I just block. I like first dates to be fun activities, something creative. I feel like men that aren't willing to take the time to try and impress me aren't worth my time. I'm 2 years out and I can eat enough no on ever comments on me not eating a lot. I think also because of the kind of men I date, they are used to women not eating a lot (most of them have thin ex-wives). Even at one year I could eat enough or make it look like I was eating enough that no one cared. If it is a nice restaurant (not a corporate chain) , the courses arrived spaced out enough that you have time to eat properly like a civilized human. Order seafood, it is moist and almost a slider, you can eat most of it. Dinner Salad, they only give you 2 to 3 ounces of protein and salad greens are basically a slider, easy to eat it all. Steak can be tricky, but if you order filet mignon, with veggies you can eat all or most of a 4 ounce filet and have a few dainty bites of veggies.

5 months Sleeve to MGB post-op pic
That is amazing weight loss for a revision. Most people with revisions lose very slowly and barely anything. Congrats on all the hard work!
