  1. If people were being totally honest, you can lose all the weight you want with diet, and not exercise. Your body will burn fat for energy without exercise. Exercising is about fitness, not weight loss.
  2. @@PissiChrissi If you haven't worked out in years or with a trainer for years, why are you giving someone else advice and pissing on their plan when they are just getting started? Why not sweep around your own front door before you sweep around someone else's. @@Soon2BHealthyAggie Running in Water is harder than running in sand, since you have the resistance all around you. It is an awesome workout.
  3. If you have worked with these world renowned trainers, why is your BMI so high?
  4. @@OKCPirate Weighing salad veggies is so much easier and you get better results because you don't have the volume issues.
  5. I had my follow up DEXA scan and RMR test this week. My previous testing was 4 months ago, at that time I had lost about 90 pounds. When I was tested this week I was down over 120 pounds total. First RMR since we have talked about it a lot on here recently. Calcium supplement in Dec, because it wasn’t needed. So this bonus is just from activity, not supplements or anything. Other fun things you can see with a DEXA scan is all the asymmetry in your body. Your left side and right side rarely match. A Scan breaks out the fat and lean mass for each limb, left and right. Anyway this makes me feel better about my overall health. I would be lying if I didn’t admit that I am disappointed my weight loss has been slower the past few months. I am going to try and use this information to improve that. I eat around 1100 calories on most days. I am thinking that is too large a deficit and I should increase my calories. Those RMR and BMR above don’t take into account any of the exercise I do, which means I am running at over a 1000 calorie deficit on most days eating 1100 calories a day. I think that might be too much, but I am nervous to increase my calories. I hope this helps someone else. Instead of guessing and making assumptions about what if going on with your body, let technology help you out. My DEXA scan cost $75 at my local research University and the RMR test was $50. I wanted a baseline before I start my new more rigorous workout for the summer. Now I have a scientific starting point to judge my progress from.
  6. Water aerobics classes vary so much this is a useless debate. I used to do HIIT in the water and burn over 700 calories a workout. There is the old people doing Tai Chi at the Y and then there are advanced aqua Zumba and Aqualogix classes. Aqualogix is so rare I doubt anyone here has done it but Division I, athletes use it.
  7. What about eyeroll and ignore? the more information you give some people, the more they are going to ask. They don't really care they are being nosey.
  8. Feeling full post op is the most uncomfortable thing, once it happens to you, you will never want to feel it again. Don't aim for full, aim for satisfied.
  9. @@jessjames space it out so you eat every 2 hours or you will go nuts. I went to bed every night at 9 or 9:30 on pre-op. My diet was all liquids only and i felt like i was running on air. Still it was worth it in the end. @@jessjames space it out so you eat every 2 hours or you will go nuts. I went to bed every night at 9 or 9:30 on pre-op. 10. @@jessjames I do intermitten fasting. I haven't lately but i plan on going back to it. I fast 16 hours, and eat my food in an 8 hour window. I don't start eating until noon and stop by 8pm. You can't eat all your calories in one sitting for a long list of reasons, mainly your body won't absorb it all. Post op, you can't ingest much at once. Intermitten fasting is a great way to combat cravings and learn control. I did it before i decided on surgery with some friends and helped a lot.
  11. Sleeves aren't fully healed until 6 months, what you feel before 6 months isn't restriction, it is a traumatized organ healing. Sure there is restriction, but you shouldn't think of that early restriction as your restriction. Long term that isn't even what you want, because you need to be able to consume enough calories to be an active person. You don't want to start your sleeve journey relying on restriction to tell you how much to eat and when to stop. Weight your food, eat your proper portion. Stop. Thats it. Don't push it. You should know you can eat more because you shouldn't be eating more than your weighed portion. Make this habit early, so later on this is what you are used to and you don't have issues.
  12. If its just high Protein low cal, why not eat meat? Or are you on a liquid pre-op? If you aren't a vegetarian or a vegan, eating meat is going to keep you more satisfied. Also when you only have 800 calories to work with, you don't want to blow 300 on Breakfast. I have learned that the hard way. You could have a protein shake that is around 160 calories for breakfast, then another one at mid morning instead of spending 300 calories at breakfast. Think of your daily calories like money and you are on vacation. You have 800 a day and you need to make it last. Do you really want to have lobster and crab followed up with a visit to spa all before 10am? Space your calories out, if you eat every 2 hours, not just Jello. Head hunger won't be such an issue.
  13. It tasted better than Quest. It just isn't as good as the Oh Yeah Bars, which don't even taste like protein bars.
  14. I tried one of these last week in an emergency, I was out shopping too long and I was starving. It was okay. I was really hungry and it was just okay, so that means it probably isn't that good. The best bars I have tried so far are Oh Yeah One Bars. The birthday cake and lemon are amazing.
  15. My salad is 33-35 calories. 15 calories for veggies, zero calories for dressing and 20 calories for a sprinkling of cheese. Calorie free dressing https://www.waldenfarms.com/products/dressings.html The best way to calculate calories is with weight, so weigh each type of veggie, and weigh the dressing. If you use a food tracking app, you can make recipes in it and it will do all the math for you
  16. The difference in the amount of weight you lose between the sleeve and the bypass long term is very narrow. Long term the results are very similar. If you follow the program you can be successful with either. With all of those medical conditions, I would thank that malaborption would be something you want to avoid. I would ask your other doctors what surgery they think you should have before just agreeing to what the bariatric center is saying.
  17. I use loseit. It has the lowest yearly subscription rate for premium. I like the features and how you can set different goals. I used to use fitbit, but since I stopped using my fitbit I have tested a few out and loseit, is the winner for now. None of them are perfect but at least I can set my macro goals, bmi goal, weight goal, and body fat goal.
  18. I buy whatever I want. I don't cut corners on my bras. The only thing I do make sure of is that if I buy something that I plan on wearing it within a week or 2, or I buy it a size smaller than I fit. Life is too short for cheap clothes. I'm not going to punish myself for losing weight quickly. I battle with head hunger all the time. Winning that battle, I deserve whatever I want. Don't sell yourself short just because you are winning at weight loss.
  19. Never. Didn't eat them before surgery, didn't eat them after. They have always seemed like useless calories to me. I use crisp cucumber slices for mini sandwiches or crackers.

  21. ASMBS would be the authority and they have it on their website. http://asmbs.org/patients/life-after-bariatric-surgery My Doctor told me the same thing, aim for 20 at a time and no more than 30, the body can only absorb so much. Same reason why you don't take all your supplements at the same time.
  22. @@dede0314 Congrats on the hard work
  23. http://asmbs.org/patients/life-after-bariatric-surgery Excess of 30g in a hour is just wasted by your body. @teapot As you lose weight your bladder will have more room in your torso and be able to hold more, so drinking more won't necessarily mean you are urinating more in the long term.
  24. This is a medically necessary surgery though. No one asks heart patients to promise in writing to give up greasy philly steaks.
  25. No, but I have a friend I view differently. It was sort of the final straw, but when I was doing pre-op testing I told her about it, and she told other people when I told her not to tell anyone, because she didn't think these people counted. Now I know I can't trust her ever, so our friendship is downgraded quite a bit in my mind. Now that I am more active and more like I was in my younger years, the kind of people I am associating with are going to be different. I'm into hiking, boating, and in general being outdoors, some of my friends are into this kind of thing, some aren't. In the end my life is so rich now, it doesn't matter too much about the people left behind.
