Back fat?!
You can't spot lose fat. You can't tone fat because it isn't a muscle. If you build back muscles under fat you are just going to look bigger. The best option is to just keep losing. Almost all my back fat is gone, because I have just kept losing weight.

3 months post-op and having trouble with meat :(
How are the meats prepared? Is there any logic to your issues? Are you weighing your portion? What happens if you just eat an ounce, wait and eat another ounce.

My NUT is a nut

Drinking trouble
@@Ms. Thankful Are you still taking pain meds? The pain meds were giving me more pain than stopping it, because they were causing my intestines to clinch basically. They keep your intestines a sleep, which is why people so notoriously have constipation when taking narcotics. When you are off pain meds, you might have an easier time.

REGRETS
@@amanihegazy Have you tried warm broth with unflavored Protein powder? Your sleeved stomach is almost like a muscle, the less you use it, the less you will be able to use it. So not eating increases the restriction and makes it harder to eat. Are you drinking constantly? I mean sips all day, basically every waking moment? That will help ease up your stomach. They eat those small amounts that you can, several times a day. You really should see a medical professional, if your Dr isn't helpful, find another one. The person that does your surgery doesn't have to be the one that does your follow up care. You could have a stricture and it needs to be addressed. Go to the ER.

too much, too soon....
If you can cook that is awesome. If you can't don't get the canned broth it is high in sodium. The broth's at Whole Foods are of a nice quality and very delicious. The lamb broth is amazing.

Protein shots?
IF they are the ones I am thinking of they are so nasty. I still have the box from when I had surgery. Used one and decided never again.

Diet after Sleeve (fear of my own sabotage)
@@stefanie0804 This is just my opinion but from years of observing people that have had WLS, the people that "eat the same just smaller amounts" always fail in the long run. They never use the surgery for the mental reset it gives you. If you really learn nutrition and learn what healthy eating is, you never have to diet. You will never gain weight on veggies, it is impossible to eat enough, spinach for example, to gain weight. I think using WW is a waste of money and effort. People can just learn to eat properly in the first place. You have to really mentally be in a place where you want to eat healthy for life and and for the health benefits, not just to lose weight. If you adopt of way of eating that you like and is healthy, you never have to diet and you never have to obsessively watch what you eat. Like @@Christinamo7 said, the difference with the sleeve is, if your surgery was done correctly and your follow up care is correct (with acid controllers), then you are not hungry. Not being hungry for a solid 6 months or more makes it easy to adapt a healthy eating life style. It because a normal life style choice and not a diet. In the end you feel so much better that you enjoy it and there is no reason to "cheat" and lots of things don't appeal to you. You can't really understand what it is like to not be hungry at all for months on end, it is just something you have to experience, but it makes it 1000x easier to eat healthy.

Negative comments - not "fat enough"?
@@Jim Paulette First tell them to pound sand. A BMI over 40 puts you at Obesity Class 3, which puts you at high health risk, so you are definitely heavy enough for surgery. The best way to not have to listen to peoples dumb comments about your surgery is not tell them. When you tell people your business, you invite them to comment, good, bad and the ugly.

Looks like I've got some more work to do....
@ DEXA scans are so valuable. I wish they were used more in the US. They should be a part of every bariatric program. Those home scales are crap. which is why I quit buying the $200 scales and got a simple one. They are wholly inaccurate, most people will never really have their body fast tested, so they won't know the difference. Learning how my left and right side were not symmetrical at all was really interesting. It makes sense because when I do my arm and leg measurements, they are never the same. I used to think I was just measuring in different places. I need to make my appointment for my next scan very soon. Thanks for sharing

Confidence with saggy skin?
@@laGata15 First everyone does not lose their breasts. If you really have breast tissue and not fat, it isn't going anywhere, I was a DD before surgery and now I am a G cup, because my band keeps getting smaller but my breasts are not. I wore weaves and wigs before surgery because I like variety so my hair loss, doesn't even matter. No one sees it at all, and I don't even care, honestly. Doesn't matter to me. I didn't go bald anyway. I know it is thinner in places but most people would never know, and now it is thickening up and growing back like wild fire. Don't care. The skin is annoying, not going to lie about it. I notice it because I see myself naked and there are mirrors all over my place, but 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of the people on the planet are never ever going to see my loose skin. Shapewear and clothes hide it fine. I am going to have a tummy tuck at some point once my weight stabilizes, so for me this is a temporary situation. I look amazing in clothes. Hoe is life. I wear all the bodycon dresses I can get my hands on, even just to the grocery store. I can wear Bebe and all the other little tart brands, and I do. I enjoy this body with the loose skin more than I enjoyed my fat firm body because this body gives me a lot of options. I do too many things and have too much energy to be depressed. Everyone is different but pre-op I worried about some of the same things (well not the boobs, I knew they were never going anywhere, everyone in my family has had a reduction surgery), and all the other little ways that my life is richer really balances out all the negatives. I will also say that I worked out a lot of my stress and emotional issues before surgery so I went into surgery with a whole new outlook on life, and that made all the difference.

Caffeine - must it be gone forever?
I really think a lot of plans say no coffee just because most people put ton of calories and junk into their coffee. So they just say no trying to cut those calories. Caffeine keeps me sharp for my profession. Even when I didnt drink coffee right after surgery, I took caffeine pills. I told my Dr I wasn't giving up coffee or caffeine. He talked to me about how I drink my coffee and why, and we agreed it was okay.

When did you feel "normal" again?
Hmm, that is something that just gets better as you heal. 3 months is the first turning point, and that is when I had few issues, although I never really had the issues you have. Then 6 months things are really different, then 9. At a year I feel completely normal except with less capacity. Yesterday I wanted to finish a Protein shake so I could throw it in the dumpster before getting in my car and I was able to drink a whole premier shake in about 2-3 minutes. Right after surgery it would have taken me 2 hours.

Name your fave Football snacks
Water. Seriously when there are things and people are snacking or whatever which for us is GRAZING. I drink water, at the movies, at the bar, at concerts, at sporting events. Water. I chug it. It is the perfect time to get extra water in and water is calorie free. I sometimes get fancy and have unsweetened coffee or tea. I eat before, and I plan on eating after. I also keep a protein bar in my purse for an emergency if I go more than 3 hours with eating. Since the Bears are the Bears, not eating also helps keep my stomach from going in virtual knots

Considering surgery
@@Rycaitsmom If your co-workers had surgery covered through insurance then you should be good. Wash U has an extensive weight loss program, that involves a lot of behavioral changes. I think if you are serious about being healthy for life, they are a good way to go, even with the longer wait. If I had the time last year I would have probably went with them, but I work with a different University for my follow up care. Des Peres has a program which is who I went with. Some of the doctors have left (one went to teach at a University), and I am not sure what the exact status of their program is now.

How do I know when I am full?
@@jatmagg The goal isn't t be full. Once you accidently get full on solids, the discomfort will probably make it so you don't want to try again. Weigh/measure your food and have the recommended amount for your stage. When I was at that stage 2 ounces was suggested for me. Take a bite, wait 90 seconds take another bite. Eat your portion not more.

@@Rycaitsmom At 60 BMI you won't have to provide proof of failed attempts. Are you sure your insurance in MO covers surgery? Most plans don't.
