I got my approval today! My surgery is August 17th.

I am a foodie that got sleeved!

Please tell me where to purchase and name of plain protein powder you use. I am having sleeve surgery in 5 weeks and, like you, enjoy savory dishes, not just vanilla, chocolate, strawberry shakes. That is my biggest fear - no variety and blandness. I won't do anything with artificial sweetner. I love your recipes and will be trying all of them. Thank you for any help. ????

    Empire BCBS NEW YORK

I have BCBS in NC. The process is lengthy. Just make sure you have Letter of Medical Necessity from PCP with documented 4 year weight loss history, along with weight loss programs you have tried and the results. That has been the most cumbersome part of my journey. I never documented anything I did on my own in detail. I had to get my records from different doctors, and have one doctor combine everything on one letter. I still don't know if I am approved or not.

    Anthem BCBS high deductible plan

I have BCBS. Besides all the pre-screening appts - abdominal ultrasound, sleep study, upper GI, EKG, chest xray, psychological evaluation, pulmonary, nurtitionist, I also had to have 4 years of weight, and weight loss programs documented and sent in by my PCP. I also had to write a letter stating why I wanted the surgery. I started this process in February. The paperwork was submitted to BCBS today 7/10th. My surgeon schedules 6 weeks out based on approval date.

    Ugh

The psychological visit I had told me that the hardest thing to deal with would be people telling me I was "taking the easy way out". He said that couldn't be further from the truth. I don't tell too many people for that very reason. Unless I deal with someone on a day to day basis, like my immediate family or an extremely close friend, I don't say anything to anyone. It's none of their business. I understand this person who said this to you may be a close friend. Sometimes people say things because they feel threatened in some way. She may be afraid that the dynamics of your friendship might change after your surgery.
  11. Make sure you get your Letter of Medical Necessity from your PCP with all your weight and attempted weight loss program history. The red tape getting medical records, especially during the summer when doctors are taking vacations, has been my primary hold up in the process. Good luck to you!

    Starting my journey

Awesome! I'm new as well. Surgery (if insurance is approved) will be in 5 weeks. I cannot wait!
  13. I've had all 5 or 6 prescreen appts. Finished almost 2 months ago. I've been waiting forever for Letter of Medical Necessity from PCP. Finally got today. Now having to wait for insurance approval. They surgical center submitted my surgery date along with packet. Surgery date is still 5 weeks from now.

    Psychological evaluation

I had to have an appointment with the doctor and he just went over the tests and asked me some questions. He gave me a lot of advice and it was actually one of the better doctor visits I had.
