Hey there September sleevers! Any one out there?
I did a sleep study. It said I didn't have sleep apnea, but I did have a mild upper respiratory sleep disruption... I had surgery last Tuesday. That nght in the hospital, I set off my oxygen sensors 3 times before they put me on oxygen. I took it off twice in my sleep, and both times, I set off the alarms again.

The pre-op info from my surgeon says the purpose of the liquid diet is to shrink your liver and to ensure your stomach is empty. It also serves as a bowel prep. Your body will have an easier time recovering from surgery if there is nothing to digest in your stomach for a few days before. Then the "nothing by mouth after midnight" is so you don't vomit during anesthesia and aspirate your vomit, which can be extremely dangerous.

I've told my job. I don't get any paid vacation or personal time, so it's unpaid time off, but I figured they wouldn't be so irritated about me being gone for a week if they know it's surgery and not just a vacation. That being said, health privacy laws prevent your employer from asking specifics, so if you told them you were taking some time off for medical reasons, they legally can't ask you anything else.

I don't think any of us plan to leave. ???? I haven't told most people. My husband is supportive. My mom is totally against it. The only other people I've told are my husband's cousins. He just got lap band, and she's going to be sleeved, so I know they're on board. I'm sorry your friend isn't supportive. Sometimes people just don't understand.

EDG is no big deal. I had one about a year ago.

Hey there September sleevers! Any one out there?
Please add me. JMorreale2@gmail.com Update: In the middle of trying to figure out when I can schedule, working around my work schedule and our vacation plans, and not hearing back from the surgery scheduler....my husband has now been hospitalized for 2 weeks. We are 500 miles from home. He has had 4 procedures, and now will have another surgery on Wednesday. The scheduler FINALLY called 2 days ago, (a month after approval), and I still have no idea when I can schedule. If my husband is released next week, he still won't be able to drive for probably a month. He will be ok, but this is a recurrence of something he fought for 3 years that we thought was over a year ago. I feel incredibly selfish saying this, but I am considering going with a friend while my husband is recovering. I have worked so hard to get here....and I spent years taking care of him. I need to take care of me.

I'm 300 miles from the office, but I have called multiple times. It's so frustrating!

Hey there September sleevers! Any one out there?
I've now been approved since June 17, and I still can't get in touch with the surgery scheduled to schedule me. I'm SO frustrated! I started jumping through hoops in January. Now that I'm approved, let's get this show on the road.

Oops...the unflavored can be put in just about anything. Yogurt, any type of juice/crystal light/flavored water, broth, soup, etc. They have recipes on Unjury.com for popcyxle a and protein jello.

I am interested in the unflavored and what all I can put it in! hahaha

Unjury has 2 chocolate flavors. One of them tastes like cake batter (too sweet), the other one is fine. But now I can't remember which is which! I swear I need to start a spreadsheet of all of this so I don't forget!! My husband has been in the hospital for a week, so my brain's a little fried. It looks like his surgery is postponed indefinitely. I'm still hoping for August, though I still haven't heard from my surgeon's scheduler. It's ridiculous that we submitted for approval a month ago and received approval 2 weeks ago, and they still haven't scheduled.

Remind me- which ones did you get?

On the subject of out-of-pocket, if I get approved, my out-of-pocket is $2700. My husband is much heavier than I am, and he's a couple months behind me in the process, but his surgery will cost $250 (just the cost of a not-covered psych eval) IF we can get his done this year too! Two-fer!

It's not all that uncommon for a psych to be the one to say "Hang on- are you really ready for this?" If nothing else, he wants to see that you're taking it seriously and have addressed whether you're ready. Those who are have better long-term results. I think a lot of us get excited "Yay! I get to have WLS!" but they need to make sure we're willing to put in the work. Only you can know if you're prepared, and if you're not, what you can do about it.

I've been in this boat since June. My doc said not to lose any weight, but I'm ready to get on with it! I started the process in January. The only thing I know to do is sample protein shakes so you have an idea of what you like, and research so you have realistic expectations.

Hey there September sleevers! Any one out there?
Hi There! I have my last appointment with my primary care physician next Tuesday. I am probably looking at a September surgery because of work schedule. I also have Cigna, and I am hoping they approve me. I have a BMI of 36, but several comorbidity factors including a degenerating hip, so getting this weight off once and for all is important to me. Cigna requires 3 months of appointments plus a "final appointment," which ends up being 4 appointments total- almost 4 months. My appointments were March, April, May and June. My husband is also working towards an approval. He started in May, and he's almost guaranteed an approval because he has a BMI of 44. Good luck! I have found the process pretty easy really. Just time consuming.
