  1. Hi I had my surgery on 8/18. I'm feeling great the only thing is I feel nauseous after I eat. I was wondering if you feel that too

I had my surgery 8/17 and yes I have gotten nauseous after I eat a few times. It's usually because I ate too fast or too big of a bite. Slow Small bites is the key for me.

  2. I've been having this constant almost all day nausea. Whenever I try to eat, I feel like I'm going to vomit, no matter what I eat. I also get this feeling with Fluid intake. Sometimes I feel like I'd be better if I just threw up but can't make myself throw up - I try, but nothing comes up.

I have been dealing with some major allergies and have been rather congested over the past few weeks.

I only recently put the two together... Post nasal drip and nausea. Has anyone else dealt with this? Is that a reasonable excuse for all the constant nausea and gross feeling in my tummy? I recently moved to a new state and haven't found a Bariatric clinic yet to follow up with. I'm sure I could email my surgeon back home but I can't get back in to be physically evaluated if they need me to.

For the allergies I have been taking either Claritin or Zyrtec and using Flonase nasal spray. With the more extreme flares, I've even added Benadryl to the regimen. I have an appt scheduled for Sept 14th with an allergist to restart allergy injections. I'm hoping that helps as well.

Ask your surgeon for Zofran. It's for nausea and works wonders. Good luck!

  3. This is one of my big concerns as well. I keep thinking I should get the revision because of all the recent issues I've had with my band. I'll have to get my gallbladder out and keep going back and forth about whether or not I want to do the revision at the same time. My surgeon he could do it all in one surgery.

Then I think maybe I won't have so many issues with the band after the gallbladder is gone?? I never had issues with my band until my gallbladder started acting out.

I'm having my gallbladder removed along with the revision from band to sleeve all in one too. My surgeon says it doesn't add any additional time so no need for me to worry.

  4. Did you have slippage, hernia or band erosion in order to get revision approval?

No thankfully I don't have any problems like that. I've had to have all Fluid removed. So many issues with trying fills then having to get unfilled. The band just didn't work for me. My cardiologist actually thinks it's causing my high heart rate issues. She specializes in electro-cardiology and has seen this issues in several lap band patients. So thankful my insurance covers the revision. Surgery on Monday the 17th. I'm excited and ready to go????

  5. That's it ?No psych or nutritional requirement? How long did it take to get approval?

Yes I had to get the psych eval before my doc would submit it to insurance.

    Congrats on the approval!

    Thanks!

  6. My revision from band to sleeve is Aug 11. I haven't had an unfill and doctor hasn't said anything about it. What have other people experienced? Did you have Fluid in your band up until surgery?

Awesome question...I called my surgeons office before my EGD LLast week and asked the same thing. He asked me to come in for an unfill so you might want to ask. My surgery is a week after you on Aug17th. Best of Luck????

  7. I'm sure you will be able to do some. I wouldn't lift anything if I were you! I helped my friend take her daughter last year and we were there just long enough to bring her stuff up, make the bed and unpack her clothes. Maybe 30 minutes. She really didn't want us to linger lol. Bittersweet time for you. Congrats!

Bittersweet is right but I'm so proud of him. Thanks for the well wishes.

  8. Sorry to hear about your gallbladder. I hope you feel better.

I had an abdominal ultrasound yesterday (before the surgery) to check for gall stones (I had pains previously). Turns out I have them. :( I think my DR is going to recommend that we remove my gall bladder. (YIKES!)

Looking at the positive side, maybe we will both get a boost of energy once the gall bladder is gone. :D

    take care!

I had an abdominal ultrasound that revealed gallstones. I'll have my band to sleeve revision and gallbladder removed on Aug 17th. Seems like a lot in one surgery but my Dr. assured me it's safe. I've done quite a bit of research and many Bariatric docs are taking the gallbadder out if it has stones because rapid weight loss aggravates gallbadder issues. Personally I rather not have to have another surgery if I can help it. Wish me luck. Less than a month to go.

  9. Right now my surgery is scheduled for August 11th and our family vacation is August 22-29. It is a low key vacation since we just rented a house on a lake for the week for our family and my husbands family. I don't anticipate swimming since I haven't been in a bathing suit in years. I planned on just hanging out with the family and spending time with our nephews new baby and helping some of the younger ones fish at the lake. I will be 2-1/2 hours from home. I need advice. Should I postpone the surgery? How did you feel 11 days post-op? Any tips or advice is appreciated!

Thanks for posting this question. My 1st born is going off to college 11 days after my surgery. His school is only a 2 hour drive and my hubby will do all the driving and they will handle the heavy lifting. I'm more concerned with my energy level. Will I be up to helping organize his room?

  10. After viewing all of the post over the last several weeks one thing I am curious about is the length of stay in a medical facility after the sleeve procedure. So far the only thing I have determined is that it almost varies like crazy. I have seen post from folks that stayed two days in the hospital and I have seen post from folks that do out patient and are home the same day.

I guess it is like the pre/post diets and the lengths of surgery. It all varies.

My doctor told me to expect the following:

    1. Pre surgery - he did not think I would need a special diet since my BMI was below 50 (~48) and did not have any other health concerns

    2. Surgey - he said it would be out patient at a surgery center (near the hospital) and to expect about a 45 minute procedure

    3. Post surgery - he said that for the first few days I would be on a clear liquid diet but that could change as I felt comfortable with it

I guess each doctor has his own thoughts on how things are / should be.

My doc requires at least 1 night stay in the hospital. The next morning is when he does the leak test.

  11. I took off about a week and a half. For the first few weeks I was always super tired when I went home and went straight to bed. Two weeks off may have treated me bette. I am an assistant bank manager, not too much activity in my job. Truthfully only in the last two weeks (6-7 weeks out from surgery) I have had enough energy to do much after a full work day.

I love this site. Everyone is so helpful! Thanks for sharing your experiences. My surgery date is August 17th. I'm excited to get rid of this band and to have a tool that works for me.

  12. Hi - I have had the lap band for 2 years and I hate it. Stuck foods, throwing up. Too tight. Too loose. I have lost only 30 lbs. I have adapted bad eating habits (compensating for lack of food with liquids because of fear of eating and getting stuck). I had my band adjusted by a new doctor yesterday who strongly suggested I would do well with the Sleeve. I'd love anyone's thoughts on this subject. Thank you.

Our stories are very similar, I had lost only 30lbs before I started having problems. Had to unfill due to reflux and not being able to get liquids down. I have had no restriction since last year and gain all the weight back. Each time I tried to get a fill I would end up going back for an unfill. Never hit the so called "green zone". I'm now waiting for approval to revision to the sleeve. Best of luck on your journey!

  13. I'm curious - because I was banded in 2009 and haven't had much success (about 25 lbs lost) - is this the reason most are going from band to sleeve? Or does there have to be a band malfunction of some sort for insurance to cover this?

I just found out that I will have to have my gallbladder out. I'm going to the doctor next week to discuss the ultrasound they did. I'm thinking I might talk to him about revision surgery. But if there has to be a band slip or something of that nature I guess I wouldn't be covered :-/

I've only lost 30lbs with the band and have had nothing but problems for 3 years. I'm hoping to be approved for revision to VSG soon. Good luck to you☺️
