  1. Hi Everyone! I had my surgery in May 2015. I have lost close to 100#. I have a very happy life, and do not want it to change. That being said, I am 2000 miles from home, with no friends. I am married, however, my hubby isn’t able emotionally to deal with the new me. I am alone most weekends and holidays. I know that since I have lost the weight, I have been craving for someone to pay attention to me, to be attracted to me, to think I am “normal”. That feeling has become overwhelming. All the people I am around now don’t know the fat girl, only the way I am now, they have no idea where I came from. I know that most of you that have lost lots have been through this. Any coping skills you can share?

Calories at 8 weeks post op

Hi Ashley, I will be 8 weeks next week and am eating between 500-700 cals a day. I don't drink any Protein shakes, hated them. I do eat close to 50 protein a day. I eat very soft cooked eggs in the morning with 1/2 toast. Snack is a tuna pouch. Lots of chicken, hamburger. Vegetables come next. I am eating anything I want, just very little bites, and chew a lot. It seems to go down better if they are moist. Good luck!

    Feel lost...pleas help!

Hi, I had gastric bypass May 5. At this point I am allowed to try anything. I usually eat soft eggs for Breakfast. Leftover meat for lunch and meat and veggy for supper. What meats do I eat? Lots of chicken breast, pork, lean ground beef. I eat Protein first and supplement with veggies. Since a bite will usually do me, I eat about anything. I record everything I eat on myfitnesspal and usually am around 500 cal. I also eat a lot of sugar free popsicles. Good luck to you!
  5. I am week 6 post op. I seem to have lots more energy, but it took that long. Isn't it great that you realize you have pain hunger from your brain and not your stomach? Before I would think I was going to die if I got hungry, now I know where it is coming from, my head. Hang in there, it is way early!

    Where are you From ?

    I'm from Stanley, ND.
  7. Hi Robyn, I had RNY May 5. Like the other poster said, don't sweat the first couple weeks. Just try to stay hydrated, sip by small sip. I HATED protein drinks myself. After the 2 week visit with the doc, he said it was ok, as long as I recorded what I ate, and I had the amount of protein I needed. Hence, I have survived on soft eggs, tuna pouches, and soft canned meat. I cook a lot of meat in the crockpot because it is more tender. Also, 90 percent ground beef was easy for me. Be patient, you will figure it out!
  8. I had the Roux en y, and it was laproscopic, which are you having? Don't get me wrong, I am slowly walking the 5k, and Water walking and stretching at the pool. Nothing too strenuous! LOL... I have always hated exercising! But, I want to work myself into loving exercise, maybe wishful thinking, but I'm sure going to try. I will probably keep my hubby. According to everyone I talk to, there are no good trade ins!
  9. I had a gastric bypass. My husband was with me during surgery, but has to be one of the most non-sympathetic people on the planet, which makes me stronger. I went back to work after 6 days and would have been fine alone after getting home. I guess the main reason I have chosen not to tell anyone is because this is my journey, no one else's. I didn't want to second guess my decision by negative energy from my family. I didn't want to be the topic of the day. I just don't need that. Instead of focusing on my family and friends and what they will think, I am being selfish and focusing on myself for once in my life. How amazing to be able to finally make plans for your future as a healthy human being! I've signed up for my first 5k... I've started going to the pool, and that is just the beginning. You will do amazing, as long as you are positive and can see past the surgery part. Like I said, it is uncomfortable, but not as uncomfortable as being so overweight. Enjoy your journey!
  10. Thanks James. Glad you are doing well, and have improved stamina, I need some! I love being outside myself and had to plant flowers in 30 minute increments, because of my energy levels. But, I did not eat inbetween, which is a first! LOL I hope I can do as well as you in 2 years, I am so ready for this change, way overdue! Cheers!

    Introduction

Hi Amy, I'm a month post op, and I'm a big foody. I think you will find you will not have to break up with food, but redefine the relationship. I want to eat it and enjoy it, not eat it too get a high. I think we are going to be pleased, so far so good for me. I'm not craving like before. It is empowering! Good luck!
  12. I had a gastric bypass on 5/5/2015. I have been overweight since the age of 3, I have no clue how to be anything else. Due to this I have never been able to have kids. PCOS, Hidradenitis Supportuvia, Cauda Equina Syndrome, Diabetes have reaked havoc on my body and mind. I have always worked full time, consider myself successful and an overachiever because my talents have to speak louder than my looks. Fat girls have to try harder right? I could lose 10% of my bodyweight, and I did it many times over, always on a diet. Can't believe I am done with this cycle!! My surgery just caused me to be sore and uncomfortable, no biggy, so is being 125 lbs overweight. I consider this surgery to be EXTREME because of the changes in eating. I am one month in and doing really well. I have lost 30 lbs, but I really don’t know that, or feel that. I’m still pretty tired and weak. Right now I am on a soft dental diet. No Protein drinks, I HATE them! So, a typical day for me consists of soft eggs for Breakfast, tuna pouch snack, lean protein lunch, and lean protein and soft veggie for supper. I am a “foody” and love to cook and bake. Has this stopped, NO. I hate it when people say they cheated. Cheated? How about just eating a serving or less, now that is a win to me. I believe everything in moderation, but have never lived it. I think now I have a chance. My ultimate goal is to be able to go hiking, ride a horse, be able to fly comfortable, to never apologize for my weight and to be healthy, (oh yeah, and to get clothes from the regular sections!). I live 2000 miles from home, have not told anyone that I have had surgery, not sure if I’m going to. Anyone else do that? I am flying home over Labor Day, this gives me a big incentive. Would love some support friends, I don't have anyone! Good luck to you! ~Kelli

Blue cross Blue shield of NC

I have blue cross blue shield, a different state. You can google bcbsnc gastric bypass and might get a page that tells you about it. My hospital assigned me a nurse advocate that does this everyday, so she helped push it through. I suggest meeting with the place that does surgery and they should help you. Good luck!
  14. I had GB on 5/5. I wish I could have tried it out first. I had no pain, just soreness and uncomfortable. Went back to work after 6 days. Kind of weak and tired, but that is to be expected, even still. My mind plays tricks on me and says, "this isn't working", let's eat!" But, it is physically impossible. It often feels like things are stuck, and I would love to chug water, but can't. My advice, stay positive, don't sweat the first couple weeks. I made multiple trips to the grocery to try and figure things out. My stomach is my new toy, it's kind of interesting to think about and I know the rewards are coming. Would I do this again, heck yes! Good luck, and it is so going to be worth it.
