    How long off work?

I was off for an entire week, including the weekend. However, the following week I did half days. I'm a special education teacher, I could have done a whole day, but I was tired. I needed some rest. Being in the office may be seated a bit longer than I am. I was discharged the next day after surgery. I came home and there was no need to take pain meds. I took one dose of Tylenol the day I came home. There was not a pain meds prescription given to me. I full week could be done.

    Day 1 post op RNY

Yes, my surgeon only discharged me from the hospital when I showed him I was able to drink 1 oz every 15 mins. The goal is to have 4 oz every hour, which would total 48 oz of you're up for 12 hours. I literally sipped all day long. I used a timer to help remind me. Also walk in your home. It helps with the gas pain. I also ate Jello and broth. I mainly drank. I also had to drink 2 oz of Protein shake 3x a day in the first couple of days. I believe I ended the week with 4 oz 3x a day of Protein shakes. These all count as liquids. But as you know you have to get your fluids in. I've had to get fluids twice because I was mildly dehydrated.

    What foods are you eating?

I'm 2 months post op. I eat eggs but I have difficulty with boiled eggs. I can do scrambled eggs with cheese and scrambled egg whites. I do chicken, ground turkey. I've had very small amounts of roast beef. I make it super tender and moist. I also love Brown rice pasta. My daughter has food allergies so this is the type of pasta she can have. It doesn't give me any issues and I don't have any guilt. I also love to eat fish.

    I want bread so bad!

Yeah I've had bread, in extremely small amounts. I believe I have the same philosophy as @TXMissy. I was allowed 1/4-1/2 piece of toast in week 3 post op. I can taste something and the craving is definitely fulfilled. What I love now is that it's just a taste, not a couple of servings

    Dr Mathew Fitzer Reston Va

@@rnytiffany good luck with your surgery. I'm sure you'll do great! Just keep sipping and walking. I was up and walking 2 hrs after surgery. I had no concept of time, but my fiance told I did really well. I believe I was definitely still feeling the anaesthesia because I don't remember too much. However, I do remember asking him "who's room is this?" before I walked back in. Lol!

    Dr Mathew Fitzer Reston Va

Dr Fitzer is amazing!!!!!! ???????????????????????????????????? He's a bariatric surgeon genius! His entire staff is also amazing. Jess, the NUT, she's a lifesaver. I feel like I could not have prayed for a better surgeon. I would be shocked to hear a negative review. I met Dr Fitzer in May at a seminar. My consultation was in June. I did my 90 day supervised diet with nutritionist. Dr Fitzer performed my surgery on October 12th at Fair Oaks Hospital. The staff took great care of me. Jenny, the PA, she discharged me the next day. I was back to work the following week. Anything you'd like to know, I'd be happy to help.

    Discomfort with drinking and eating

I had my surgery on 10/12. I'm almost 8 weeks post op. My daughter has food allergies so our foods within our home are lil different to begin with. However she eats brown rice Pasta, it's delicious. I no longer buy anything else. I have no pain or discomfort when I eat it. I can drink with no problems. However, I've lost the taste for crystal light and Mio.

    3weeks Post-Op Help!

I think your protein cocktail sounds wonderful. However, our body only processes a certain amount of protein at a time. So how does that work if we have an intake of protein more than what our body can process at one time?

    Recovery + Time Off Work

I had RNY on 10/12. I'm a special education teacher. I returned to work on 10/20. When I returned I only did a half day for the week due to being fatigued and still recovering. I wasn't in any pain. I wasn't uncomfortable. Definitely uncomplicated recovery. However I did experience a rapid heartbeat the following week. I was able to walk around (slowly) and teach.

    Gas pains post op

Ugh! The gas pain is the worst! I had surgery on Monday and by Thursday the gas pain was just about gone. I took Gas X strips, it helped to move the gas, but the gas still felt trapped. I had surgery on Monday, discharged on Tuesday, gas almost gone by Thursday.
  12. Hello everyone I wanted to know what apps you're using for logging you're food? I haven't tried my fitness pal because I've read how it doesn't match with our low caloric intake. I've tried Baritastic and Peachtree Bariatrics ( even though I'm not a patient it's a great tool for any bariatric patient). I just not a huge fan because of their measuring for serving sizes or portions. Has anyone tried anything else?

    Living with this long term

Awwwwww @bellabloom. ???? I'm sorry you've struggled so much. It's not suppose to be this way. You shouldn't be in this much pain. Almost a year out and only 2-3 months you can eat solid foods? Only then you're in pain. I'm almost 2 months pre op. I'm still new at this and I've not experienced what you've shared. However I know this couldn't be completely normal for that amount of time you're in pain. My first thought is to ask had you considered consulting with another bariatric surgeon? Maybe they'd have other ideas to help you with being comfortable. I have now learned I no feel I live to eat, but rather eat to live. However it pains you, just to eat. That has to change. The feeling of discomfort and pain should have subsided a long time ago. I just thought another surgeon or nutritionist may have other ideas.

    The 3rd Week Stall

Thank you so much. I've received so much support, encouragement, and advice in these forums. My stall has been broken. I'm now 218.6, for the past two weeks, it's been 222. I'm so excited. ???? I focused on my Protein. My doctor's office said focus on your fluids and worry about protein in time. They were more concerned with portions, how long you're eating, and fluids. I added protein to my focus and looked what happened. I made sure my protein intake was at least 50g. I know that's low compared to others, but it was better than I was getting. The scale was acting all wonky all morning, so I wasn't so sure if I should believe it. But after about 11 times, I figured it must be true. Not that it's dictating how I feel, I just feel better that the stall us broken. I won't look at the scale until next Monday. ???? So with 3 meals a day, 1 snack. What do you do to get your protein in? My surgeon says no Protein shakes after week 3, this is the beginning of my week 7. I'm getting in 2-3 oz per meal. I can't drink Isopure or Protein H20 because I'm allergic to whey protein. This week for meals I'm eating Breakfast: crustless quiche recipe from the website theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com Lunch: egg salad Dinner: cod fish fillet or mojo by Goya with butter Beans. I would love your ideas on how to get in more protein. Everyone, thank you again!
  20. I'm trying to not let it get to me. I had my RNY on 10/12. By the end of my 2nd week, I'd lost 14 lbs post op, 5 lbs pre op....a total of 19 lbs. On my 3rd week, I lost 1 lb... A total of 20 lbs. I've had no weight loss in 2 weeks. My fiance and I weigh in on Mondays. If this upcoming Monday I have no weight loss again, it'll be 3 weeks with no weight loss. This is so frustrating. The stall happened to early. My surgeon's office does not require a Protein minimum - maximum, just yet. I only need to ensure that I'm in taking at least 64 oz or more of fluids daily. I'm all eyes and ears for suggestions. I felt like the first couple of weeks the lbs were melting away. Now.... I'm JUST STUCK! How do you break your stall?
  21. Thank you so much for your suggestions.

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

Hi @ELF36. I'm in the same boat. I had my RNY on 10/12. I lost 19 lbs in 2 weeks and 1 lb on the 3rd week. I haven't lost a lbs in almost 3 weeks. But this will work! I posted my frustration a few days ago. I received some very helpful and supportive feedback. I was told to embrace the stall and stay off the scale if dictates how I'm going to feel. At least you're getting your protein and fluids in. My surgeon's practice is to not have a protein minimum or maximum just yet. I don't even have a caloric intake amount I should be consuming. I had to stop drinking Protein shakes in week 3. I do have to have a minimum of 64 oz. Of fluids. I do need to follow what's on my meal plan. However it doesn't take the frustration away. Embrace the stall. Continue to do what you're doing and it the weight will come off. From our reading and research these stall will be apart of our journey.
  23. Thank you so much everyone. I guess I better take a 2nd look at my fitness pal

    The 3rd Week Stall

@djmohr... Thank you again. I'm staying off the scale for at least a couple of weeks. I've never allowed a scale to dictates my feelings, so why start now right?! A 5 week stall would drive me insane! It just starts to play with your mind. I'll increase my Protein intake, continue my fluids. I'm taking my Vitamins, but it's not always a the right time in the morning. I've set a timer on my fitbit to ensure I'm taking them on time.
