  1. Almost 2 months out and I'm missing having a beer, I only have 1or 2 every few weeks, but u haven't tried, it's confusing reading all thee pros and cons on the Net, some professionals are for and an equal number are against, having the same problem with sweeteners VS sugar, but I'm sure in a few more weeks I will have a beer, we take chance even discussing it on this forum since it is an open invitation for some to judge and jump down our throats, but hey they are just going by what they've heard or read also, I'm pretty sure that if you have your diet under control and choose to have a drink once in awhile there really shouldn't be a problem unless you see an increase in frequency, and begin craving it all the time, the displaced addiction thing they talk about...... CHEERS!!!!!
  2. I'm planning to use raw sugar soon but only in my first cup of coffee and not everyday
  3. Keep your water up, take frequent walk breaks( it will help keep the nausea and pain down), and go home if you have to, you will feel sluggish for awhile
  4. You should be ok, u was sleeved in a Wednesday, slept alot and took it easy until the next Monday, when my nausea and pain were barely noticeable, I had to take 6 weeks off because of a severe hernia they found and I work in a very intense environment where you have to hold people down, but if my job was more easy going I think I would have been able to go that Monday, since I went back to the gym that day.......

    I am seeing progress

You are doing awesome, that is very encouraging, please make sure you try to get some kind of protein, especially with your level of activity, right now your ok, but as you continue to lose weight it can begin to literally eat your muscle, and it won't be noticeable until it's too late, I think your diet is a great one, I limit myself to 3-4ozs per meal, but because I workout a lot, I need extra protein to maintain........ There are some great articles online regarding activity and small amounts of protein, keep going your making progress
  6. At my doctor's office waiting to see him and I get the news that I am now at 309lbs that is 79 lbs lost since I started my journey, and looks like I will hit my 299lb mark 4 months earlier than expected, I wanted to be at 299 by Christmas, and now will be in August, gotta go lots of work still, next milestone get to 200lbs, and shop at a normal store for any clothing I want, may even splurge and get one article of Prada!!!!!!

    Fitbit Users

Each Fitbit just has a few more options added, I want the Fitbit HR, which is midrange because I need the watch mode, it can measure walking, heart rate, level of activity etc. so basically you can challenge yourself and others to hit new levels, I haven't been able to get one yet but I am saving for one, so I don't know exactly how to work it unless it's in front of me, but do know you can sync it to your phone, or computer so you can have a record of your progress and basically see where your at throughout the days and weeks. I've also looked into the Garmin, and several cheaper ones, but decided on Fitbit simply because of the slim style, Garmins were too bulky, and the cheaper brands online had pretty bad reviews, even one where the person complained of getting walking readings while using the bathroom lol, seriously, if you are considering it do research and see if it will fit your activities.......

    Obsessed with weighing in... HELP?

I have done weight lifting for years on and off and one of the first things you learn is that muscle is going to weigh more than fat, with your level of activity you should be becoming very fit even though you may not be able to tell right away, this could possibly reflect what you may see on the scale, which is why I chose milestones over scale as a measure of my progress, it incorporates the many things we overlook when we jump on one, over all health, fitness level, stamina, pain etc..... I only weigh myself about every 4 weeks, since January I have lost over 79lbs, and since my surgery on June 10th, 53lbs, and I have lost 9 waist sizes, yesterday was my second follow up, I weighed in at 309lbs, I started at 388lbs, I also told my doctor that I hit the gym 3 times a week for hardcore lifting, he told me it was great that I wasn't using scales because I was going into the dreaded stall soon and would slow down for awhile, I told him I didn't care and was going to keep up my regimen, he said if I could keep up that pace I would hit my 299lb mark 4 months before schedule, I was giving myself until Christmas but looks like August and I should hit my goal weight by February, the point is that we are all different and if I am not at my goal weight by February but I'm in a size 40-42 pant, or 1 or 2x shirt them that is my scale...........

    Hate chewable multivitamins

I talked to my surgeon yesterday and the only deficiency I'm having surprisingly is Vitamin D, which he gave me a prescription for, I also told him that my Fusion chewables were getting to me, and told him about some of the posts concerning gummies, he said that, some people won't take well to the gummies but that is why they ask that after we hit our "new normal" we try each each food one by one, because not everything is going to be agreeable to us, he said I should find a comparable over the counter gummie and try it for a few days, if it is ok then maybe increase to three per day, I'm gonna try it, hope something works for you too!

    Sharing is caring

Just joking all this attention and positive response is actually making more aware that I want to be humble, and if I do the testimonial it's because I want to pay it forward, selfishly it would mean a lot of I could make a difference in someone else's life, I work at a psych hospital and it feels good when I get a call months later that I helped someone, but this is also a very great positive thing to do, I was unable to figure out a way to give back for years, now presented with an opportunity I shouldn't take lightly........

    11 days post op

That is awesome, today is my second follow up and I'm hoping to be between 313-315, which would mean I would be ahead of my goal for hitting the 299 on Christmas, I would be able to clear that by August, September, good luck your doing awesome!!!!!!
  15. I have had no problems with sweeteners except the slight aftertaste, but as I learn more, and can learn to be in total control of my intake I plan to use raw sugar for certain things like my first cup of coffee etc... , I've been reading a lot about sugar vs. sweetener, and I'm coming to find out that sugar can actually be better for you, it's what we use it in or consume that becomes our pitfall, ie sodas, energy drinks, desserts etc. , but in a more pure form is actually healthier for you than sweeteners, like tea with a tsp of honey, or coffee with 2 tsps of raw sugar, it's about moderation, and frequency, my goal is to find a great balance in what I eat, learning the right amounts of carbs, fats, protein etc. I really don't think low carb is a good long term fix, especially after reading an article of how Dr Atkins passed away, and also articles relating to diets and Parkinson's, and even Alzheimer's, these things I mention are not meant to start debate for or against, it's just how I want to find proper balance and stay healthy LONG TERM!!!!

I want to help my friends but i can't

I haven't been to work in over a month and a half, but we are a very tight knit bunch since we work in a highly stressful environment, I have been lucky to have such an extended support group, most of my nurses, and co- workers do cardio, weight training or crossfit, I do get upset when I get the occasional "oh I hope you don't get like ######, she's already fat again" or "was it easy???", but once people started to see my results and I posted pics, a lot of it turned into being asked about my diet and food choices, I did take a couple of my nurses serious since they went out of their way to text and call me for information on using my kitchen scale, how I do low carb, and one of them even called me all weekend once because she went out and bought a Wok, and wanted to learn to stir fry, that was my midlife crisis gift until she becomes a doctor, then I get the obligatory new vehicle, lol, when you hear people talking and complaining it is because it's "the flavor of the week" but when one of them is sincere try to help, I believe in paying it forward, I try to be humble buy I'm really feeding off the whole "Wow your looking awesome" humble humble humble!!!!

    Fat confessionals

You look amazing miss Kimmy, I want to be the equivalent male version of that lmao, I need a little more than 100 lbs to go, but I'm way ahead of schedule so I'm not sweating it, and I do expect it to get harder to lose...........
  18. Almost 2 months out, and no not even once, I just make sure I never forget what it was like before surgery and I keep motivating myself day by day, I'm also much more laid back and relaxed, and I'm already 50% heather for it, regret comes from continuing to hard on yourself about small failures and not meeting goals on time and it turns into worrying about "what if ?" I don't want that ever and I use small milestones instead of setting goals.........

    Popping Bones!

I have taken Celebrex, but my knee doctor said it best "you impaled your left knee with a branch wen you were young, and almost ripped out your right knee with glass, and you shot your ACL twice, you have massive bone fragments and scarring, you sir need new knees" so I got that going for me, in the words of Bill Murray lol

I really saw how sometimes we get frustrated at each other's comments, but just like siblings, when someone else messes around with one of us it's like "oh hell no!!!!" That in itself made me laugh..........

    Fat confessionals

That really touched me Jenkbacon I really don't use the scale much but using milestones I thought I was doing good, but seeing your success since January clenched it for me, my surgery was on June 10th, but because I almost hit 400lbs last year( I was in a deep depression on my mom's one year anniversary of her death, she was my last living family member) I got down to 388lbs by January 25th or so, so from that day to the first office visit in April to the 10 day pre op til today, I have lost over 72lbs and 9 waist sizes, so I guess m doing something right lol, you are doing great keep it up, I had given myself til Christmas to break the 299lb barrier, but my wife said she noticed that at this rate I may hit that goal by September, October, keep us up to date.......

    Ignorant bi#@h

@ B52: as for me because if I'm inclusive and say "some of us" i may offend others, it is very easy and basic to understand why comments like that bother me, being overweight(fat) at a very young age I had to learn to defend myself early on mostly with words but occasionally with my hands since some kid always wanted to "try" me, we are human and after years of instinctually being on the defensive it is a natural reaction after so many years of putting up with negative comments about appearance, weight, clothing, dating, ( well you get the picture) now here I am trying to do something positive and meaningful and here comes another bully knocking me down for it, your post was very good and insightful, but it doesn't change what I was made into, and it's gonna take awhile to do so since my priority number one was to take care of how and why I ate the way I did, I've almost got that one down, so I'll move on to my next issue soon, I think I have come along way at 51years old, but I still get upset that I catch myself being passive aggressive with people at times, I need to keep working on myself and eventually I want to be in that place where negative comments don't matter.......
