About Me

  • Gender
    Female
  1. I never updated my tickler (finally did it today). Didn't want to lose 40 pounds, wanted to lose 88 pounds (228 - 140 = 88 pounds, not 40!) Goal weight was 140. Have now lost more than that -- at 130 as of today. As for the animal crackers, I was told by my doctor to get calories in and eat whatever would stay down. Only thing that stays down with any regularity is crunch food like saltines and animal crackers.
  2. Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to have to get a second opinion., My doctor says I'll stop vomiting eventually. Try different foods, etc. After 9 months of vomiting, I just feel like something is wrong.
  3. I had my gastric sleeve surgery in June 2015. Over the next 4-5 months I was unable to keep any food down except popsicles and a few animal crackers. If I tried to drink Protein shakes, they came right back up and not just a little of it, everything comes back up. Very violent vomiting. Same with all forms of meat, Beans, etc. Now I'm 9 months post op but still have trouble keeping most foods down. I can eat about 3 teaspoons of Cereal, milk, a couple small nibbles of cheese, etc at a time but about half the time it comes back up. I've tried Protein Bars, Protein Shakes, Protein powder, etc. Nothing stays down. And, I've now lost about 75% of my hair -- fortunately it was very thick originally. I had my surgery due to a joint disease that I have that was causing my joints to break down and the bone to die. Hoped getting the excess weight off would help. It has helped. I was 228 pounds when I had my surgery. Currently at 131 pounds. My goal was to lose to 140 pounds so I'm perfectly happy at the weight I am at. Just really need to find some foods that will stay down. I have figured out that crunch foods have a better chance of staying down. Today I've been able to keep down half a slice of bacon, about 1/4 of a scrambled egg, 4-5 animal crackers, about 3 tablespoons of taco Soup and a couple of goldfish crackers. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have any suggestions?

    Acid Reflux

YAY! The acid reflux has finally passed. Haven't had it at all in 2-3 days. Just hope it stays away!
  5. I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op and started feeling nausea and vomiting about 4-5 days ago. Has been constant if I try to eat anything (yogurt, Water, tea, etc) Not from over-eating since it usually occurs after one or two small sips or bites.
  6. I was sleeved on June 9th. I'm also very limited as to what I can consume. Can usually only consume 3-4 ounces at. Today's totals were 25 grams protein and 34 ounces fluids -- mostly from fat free milk and sugar free popsicles. Water tends to come right back up. Having pretty severe naseau so not trying to push it too much.

    Acid Reflux

Never had to take anything for acid reflux before surgery. Had it maybe 2-3 times in my life. My doctor prefers to wait for it to pass. If doesn't pass within a week, will put me on something.
  8. Had sleeve surgery on June 9th. Am now about 2 weeks post op. Have developed severe acid reflux. It doesn't seem to go away. Have it 24 hours a day and is horrible at night. Actually ended up trying to sleep semi-upright in the recliner last night. Anyone else suffering with this problem? And, more importantly, anyone know how to stop it?

    Constipation!

I'm two weeks post surgery and have not had a bowel movement in 2 weeks. Am taking colace daily and it does not help. Have a call into my surgeon now asking for advice.
  10. My surgery is also on Tuesday (June 9th). I've been on a liquid pre-op diet for almost 3 weeks now. Was only supposed to be 2 weeks but my husband was hospitalized the day my surgery was scheduled and I had to postpone it. The liquid diet got easier for me after the first day. At this point I still crave just a bite or two of food but am determined to stick it out so I can be ready for the surgery. Good luck with your surgery!
  11. My surgery is June 9th. I can relate to the feelings on spending the money for surgery. I'm self pay too. My husband put it to me in a good way that helped me realize I shouldn't feel guilty having to spend the money on surgery. He said that the money we were spending is worth me being able to walk and not confined to a wheelchair and being able to hopefully live a longer and healthier life. (I have a joint disease that has destroyed both hips -- had 2 hip replacments in my late 40's and now it is impacting some of my other joints). Good luck with your surgery.
  12. My surgeon expected me to lose weight before surgery -- was placed on a 2 week pre-op liquid diet. So far I've lost 21 pounds. Surgery is scheduled for June 9th.
  13. My sleeve surgery is scheduled for June 9th. Ready to have it done. I know this is what is best for me but I'm getting nervous about life after the surgery -- will I be able to eat enough Protein, drink enough Water to stay hydrated while working outside in my yard (I live in hot, humid Louisiana!). Will I be able to stay on the liquid diet for several more weeks -- already been on it for three weeks. Anyone else have nervous moments before surgery?
  14. My BMI was 35+. Unfortuantely Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana for state employees will not pay for any weight loss surgeries regardless of medical need so I'm having to self pay. I have osteonecrosis in several joints -- have already had 2 total hip replacements when I was 48 and 48. Having the surgery to try to save my joints and hip replacements. Also have problems with heart, blood pressure, high cholesterol and elevated liver enzymes. Hope your insurance comes through for you. I'm completely disgusted with my insurance. But, having the surgery in two days. Good luck!
  15. I did my pre-op liquid diet for 2 weeks too. As of today I've lost 21 pounds. Still have 2 more days to go.
