  1. Hello all

I was wondering if anyone has or knows of a good bariatric cookbook.

I'm gonna research to internet but just thought I would ask. Will let you all know if I find something good.

Usually when I would diet , I can find and eat the same 5 or 6 food items over and over. Thinking maybe because I am no longer "dieting" but adopting a new lifestyle, may help to have variety.

If you don't have Pinterest, I would get it! They have some great low carb high Protein meals on there!

  2. I'm 12 days out. Having trouble getting my Protein in so I have a really bad chest rash now. I still regret the surgery.

Something I learned from being on this forum is that different surgeons do different things! For my first two weeks I'm only supposed to work on fluids and staying hydrated. I don't start protein until my two week appointment! It's just odd to me.

Why exactly are you still regretting this surgery?

I'm feeling pretty great today! :)

I think we should all share our stats with one another!

    I will start!

    Highest weight : 330

    Surgery weight : 321

Surgery date : 5.11.15 (8 days post op, yay!)

    Current weight : 305

    Hi Jenn

    I'll share

    Highest weight 245

    Surgery weight 236

Surgery 5/5/15 (14 days post op)

    Current as of today 223

    Down 22 lbs total

I'm 5 feet 7 inches tall , I started this process in February so I'm down 22 lbs in 3 months. Never would I have been able to do that in the past.

Wow! So happy for you! I forgot to mention that I'm 6'2!

I also agree. Could never have done this by myself.

  3. Has anyone experienced severe bad breath since your surgery? I brush my teeth 3-4 times a day, floss, & use mouthwash but I have a horrible taste & smell. Any solutions appreciated!

Do you have a white layer on your tongue? If so, it could be thrush and that would explain the terrible breath and terrible taste.

I developed thrush and I'm 8 days post op!

  4. Hey everyone. Ok , so yesterday I decided carpet in living room needed vacuum , it's a room area rug. So I did run the vacuum and felt a little pull in one of my incision areas. Did t pay much attention. Omg by last night the area is so sore, feels like it's torn inside , painful when I move. Gonna just take it easy today and see if it gets any better. I'm 13 days post op today , I guess too soon for some things. Have follow up appt with surgeon this Friday so going to see how feels by then. Yikes!

Ouch! Take it easy! I remember my CNP telling me that it's very common to feel pulls and tugs especially if it's an incision with some underlying stitches! If it gets worse, don't be Afraid to call! I've called twice because I've had a rash and might have an infected incision AND thrush! It's a journey, for sure!
Thanks Jenn. I am taking it easy now. Yes , with the inside stitches have to be careful, I just figured I was 13 days post op and should be ok. I was wrong , inside takes longer to heal. I'm feeling a bit better today.

How did you make out with your incisions , do you have an infection , what did doctor say.

Not even kidding, I did the same thing you did today while I was getting in my car. Sharp pain, then it became dull and started fading! Can see how it'd freak you out!

And good! No infection just a weird reaction where the glue met part of the incision that was scabbed over! She pulled the glue off and has me Doing bacitracin and band aids for a while over that one!

I do have thrush too. So i am NOT looking forward to the nystatin mouth rinse ????

    Thank you for asking!

  6. The good and the bad...Today is two weeks after my surgery and I have been reflecting back. The bad...head hunger, eating extremely small portions...about half of what my kids eat, not being able to eat what my wife cooks, restaurants and eating out, limited food selection, weak feelings, nausea, vomiting diarrhea, watching my kids devour s'mores. The good...35lbs lost in 3 weeks, down 2 clothes sizes, compliments from coworkers, no hunger, leaving my plate not empty, new old clothes, feeling healthier, better sex, better example for my kids, looking forward to cycling and running and boating and wake boarding.

I know there are lots of ups and downs and my emotions can be all over the place. I know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. At least I can see it. Every day is new day and a new opportunity. I am glad to be on this journey.

You're doing very well! You're right! There will be downs, but the ups will seem that much more marvelous!

  7. I had my surgery May 7th. I'm ten days post op. I regret it. I'm so hungry and miss food, I also wasn't even that fat to begin with, I did it all for the wrong reasons. Now I'm gonna get skinny which is great but I'm super starving and miss chipotle, fast food and pastas.< /p>

I had a day like this yesterday. My family had this huuuuge dinner with all my favorite foods and I was stuck with Soup. They even had dessert. I was having a pity party for myself all day while remembering I'll never be able to enjoy sugary baked goods.. Well...ever again.

But then I remembered my health. And I remembered that the reason I did this was because I KNEW I had an addiction to food and that I KNEW if I didn't take action that addiction could and most likely would very well kill me.

You're gonna regret it some days. And those days will make it worse to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

    You can have chipotle again.

Just when your stomach is all healed up. Hang in there. You're doing just fine.

  8. Question! Anybody else get a rash on their abdomen post-op?

If so, what advice did your surgeon give you? It's not like on my ENTIRE abdomen, just a few spots! But it's definitely bothersome ????

Is it a reaction to something? I had a client today that ended up being allergic to something in the glue holding her wounds together. It caused a lot of discomfort and she had to have doctor look at it. They told her to take Benadryl. Definitely have you PCP look at it if it gets worse. Good luck ????
Would I be cool just to take some Benadryl to see what happens?!
It's your call hun not mine. I'm not a doctor and would hate for you to have a reaction. I'm not sure if that's an NSAID type medicine. Definitely be safe.. ????
It's not an NSAID! But I decided to just try and get the rest of the surgical scrub off and leave the area alone for awhile to see if that'll do it!

  10. I think you have to remember that a lot of us have been overweight or obese for our ENTIRE lives. Once we lose weight and try and figure out what to wear on our new bodies....it can be a learning process. It took me the majority of my life.. Around 19 years of being overweight to figure out that I don't have to wear sweat pants and t-shirts all the time! Now that I know I can wear cute things being the size I am now I am CERTAIN I will be able to wear ever cuter things once I drop my weight! Do I know it's going to be a learning curve? Yes. Do I want people to tell me if things don't look right on me? Yes...but positively. Don't straight up tell me I look like a 'harlot' tell me that you like the idea of the outfit but maybe a different top or different jeans or shorts or whatever would be more fitting on ME and MY body type. Meanwhile, let others tell me I look amazing because a lot of the time, people who aren't as far in their journey love to see where they'll hopefully be at after all their hard work.

  11. My surgeon didn't require a pre op diet, is this normal?

The rest of us are jealous of you. Lol

Very jealous. I'm in the middle of my 2 week liquid pre-op and I'm struggling not to cheat. Don't even know why I need one, I have a low BMI ????

It shrinks your liver and all the other organs to make the surgery safer for YOU! Hang in there. You've got this!

  12. I'm one of those people who weigh daily. It's a hard habit to break and you like to see results and daily results make you feel GREAT. Only advice I have is to weigh yourself straight away in the morning after you empty your bladder to get the most accurate!

But I would recommend weekly. After my two week appointment I am going to try my best to weigh only weekly! (I had surgery Monday)
