  1. I had my sleeve in 2015. Did pretty good at keeping my knee replacement off for a few more years. Ended up getting really bad again in 2019 and had both knees replaced in summer 2020 & gained 50lbs back after. I wish I did my knees before my sleeve..
I ended up having RNY a few months ago due to GERD & regain but regret everything about the RNY. (long story)

  2. Yep, I've had tons of problems after my bypass. Had it in Oct and have basically been throwing up everything since. I've had 3 EGDs and found a huge ulcer at the anastamosis, hernia and severely malnutritioned. Was admitted to the hospital for a week on IVs and had a feeding tube placed for 3 weeks until I pulled it out. I'm going on 4 months of hell. I have to do weekly bloodwork and 6hr long Infusions of potassium and magnesium because they're so low. My Protein is low as well but strangely not too bad.
I regret this so much & at this point Dr's are considering reversal.

  3. At exactly 3 mos after RNY surgery, I could not eat and had severe chest and abdominal pain. I am also a rare case that Gerd got worse also due to an ulcer that developed at the staple site. I was barely eating as it was and then this put me back on liquid diet, it was like starting all over again. So frustrating!! I was put on meds 4x a day for the ulcers and was told it would take about 3 mos to heal but I am slowly able to eat small amounts of solid food again.
Omg someone else like me! I was only 2wk post RNY (revision from Sleeve due to gerd even though I had a Fundoplication 10yrs before my sleeve) when I stopped eating or drinking anything & vomitted nonstop. After 3wks of that I finally went to the GI who did an EGD and found an ulcer at the staple site the biggest he'd ever seen. I was literally on deaths door due to loss of magnesium, nutrition, dehydration, potassium, etc & was admitted to the hospital straight from the EGD and put on a feeding tube for 2 weeks. I'm now 2 weeks off the tube and nothing I eat works. It seems the ulcer friendly foods and the bypass friendly foods are not compatible.
Please tell me when things got better for you & what you ate? I hate eggs & yogurt & love cheese and Protein Shakes even make me sick now. [emoji31]

  4. @outsidematchinside I only want to loose about 40 more lbs but my doc would like me to lose about 60. For my personal body preference that would be way too thin since I enjoy my curves, lol. When I'm trying to maintain I stay at 1200 cals, when I'm trying to lose (for example I had a bridesmaid dress I needed to fit in in April) I stay at 1000 cals. My NUT likes my macros at 30%carb/30%protein/40%fat. I try to stay in that but I do admit my carbs go over more than they should. :) You?

  5. I'm still tracking my food as well. 717 days straight on MFP. I am nowhere near goal and haven't lost a whole lot since about 6mo after surgery but have basically maintained +/-10lbs. I really wish I could've done the DS but my insurance wouldn't pay for it so I did the sleeve. I'm happy I did it and it has changed my life immensely but I know the DS would've been a better fit for me. I have a ton of extra skin that makes me very self conscience with my 90lb loss (from my highest, only 70 since surgery) but I have a lot more energy and have put off having to have a total knee replacement for another 5-10yrs which is great for my family history! I have very little restriction anymore but I still don't have any soda (exception: the occasional mixed alcoholic beverage) and only drink Water. My favorite food prior to surgery - Pasta - is now my sworn enemy because of the pain it causes which is both a blessing and a curse. All in all I'm ok if I don't lose more but in a perfect (rich) world I'd have a conversion to a DS and then a Tummy Tuck and breast lift soon after. :)

  6. Hello all. Northern Nevada (Elko) here and I have a consult with Dr. Cottam next month to get the ball rolling. I see a few people have had surgery with him. Looking for feedback on pre/post and the surgery with the dr. What little interaction I've had with his staff so far has been pleasant. I tend to heal quickly from surgery so I'm hoping it will be an easy transition back to work after surgery.

    Welcome!

I loved Dr Cottam... his staff on the other hand is ridiculous! I too had no problems with the staff until the time came for insurance auth and scheduling. If you can get past the stuff before your surgery then all is good after. Dr Cottam is an excellent doc and cares about his patients. I really like the PA that you see after your surgery too. The office staff is crap. I've had a pretty good recovery with the exception of one incision that got infected (actually half of only one) but I'm pretty sure it's my fault for camping/swimming way too early. ;) I took a week off of work and then worked from home the second week but honestly could've gone back after a few days. It's super easy recovery. It's just the getting use to the new life and relationship with food afterwards that takes a bit of getting use to. Good luck on your journey!

  7. Had my 1 mo follow up this morning and I gained weight! 3lbs! From last week when I was in for my infection. I don't get it... I've done great and my Protein is where it should be and calories at 700. And this has been my most active week with exercise. So pissed! :(

  8. I struggle with this a lot. I found it was such an ingrained habit that I don't even realize I'm doing it. I will say I do usually have to take a tiny sip with my meal just because my food is easily stuck. I had a Nissen about 10 years ago - before my surgery - so I really have to get a little Fluid to help with food buildup in my throat. But just keeping diligent on remembering that all I need is a small sip is my problem.

  9. My paperwork says clear liquids now and full liquids after surgery, but I thought it wasn't too bad.

Oh...haha.. you're right! See how fast I forgot about that! It's only been 6wks and I've already forgotten. I have to tell you I admit I cheated a couple days and I also ended up having one light string cheese each day on the approval of Madison. When I went to the preop class/appt I told her what I'd been drinking and because my calories were so low she said I could have one string cheese to get me by as long as I didn't go over 600cals/day. It was the highlight of my day for the last 10 days of my 2wk liquids.

At my 1wk post op appt with Dr Cottam when I was inquiring about one of my bruises he even mentioned "it wasn't from the liver clamp because you didn't need one.... some people respond really well to the preop diet and your liver was very small" I was so thrilled to hear that because of how guilty I had felt for my cheats. LOL

  10. I have to say putting my horrible food in MFP today definitely had me embarrassed since I have viewers...it's been a horrible day for me... a work party where the cafeteria was closed and not any good choices for me & I'm about to go to a wedding. Ugh....tomorrow will be better! :/

  11. I did watch a couple YouTube videos...nothing that stood out though.

I'm an Samsung/Android gal... so I bet HydroCoach isn't on Apple. Darnit. :(
Totally get ya on the OCD thing with the vitamins... I wouldn't add them if I couldn't put them in their own category either. LOL

  12. You know that is great that you want to be my friends on my fitness pal because I was looking for some accountability and just knowing that you guys are seeing what I enter and how I track my food makes me accountable thank you.

Me too! I know I don't do this thing the 'perfect' way (carbs are my everything!)... but it's nice to see other's meals to give me some ideas. I always had my meals locked down but that was when I was embarrassed of my 2000+cals/day, lol... now I have some better accountability it's not hard to share. :)

I'm going to get the Vitamins added to mine too. It's not hard for me to remember my Vitamins because they're part of my nightly pill routine but I like having it visible for the NUT when/if she can see it on MFP.

For Water, I actually don't typically put my Water in MFP just because I use a different app that reminds me when to drink and is kind of fun. I really like it. You can set your goal by oz and you can set how many/when/oz reminders to keep you on goal for drinking during the day. It's called Hydro Coach.

  13. @@tacha22001, I love myfitnesspal! I've been using it for a couple years so tracking is easy for me. I'm so happy to hear the amounts you got from Andrea! That's lots less than what I have as my goals in MFP just from my research on here and reading. I will say I'm thrilled to see the Water goal! I've been stressing cuz I can't get to 64oz of liquids and feel like I'm swimming at about 40oz. I always get at least 60gm of Protein but usually more like 75-80. I keep my calories at 700 or below....although today I was at 750 so now I don't nerd to beat myself up for it like I was! Did she happen to say where our fats and carbs need to stay below? Those are the ones I can't find info on.

  14. Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I am not ashamed of it but it's still so new that it's still a lot even for me to grasp. The coworker who knew had to know because of our job. To be honest, she could technically be fired (& actually it's against the law) because we work in healthcare where I had my surgery (thus why she knew) so it's a HIPAA violation. I knew people would find out eventually but I feel it should be my place to tell. I think though the part that got me was how she answered it as "she had surgery" inferring the "easy way" - which we all know it is far from. I will say though, I did use it as a teaching moment for the gal who got told. She is also overweight so had lots of questions. I already talked with the 'teller' and asked she zip it.... but she is now mad at me for "being a baby". Ugh. I give up...

Thanks though to all who felt my pain! :)

  15. Hi all! Thanks for the concern @@tacha22001! It means a lot. I didn't end up going to the ER over the weekend (very much against my husbands begging), but I did go back into the office yesterday - Monday and saw Madison again. She took the gauze packing out of the other incision she made to release some of the infection and then pulled more stuff out of the main incision. All my other incisions have healed perfectly and only half of the big incision got infected... it's a mystery to everyone why. I've still got about a golf ball size mass in my stomach which we are fighting with major antibiotics. I also did an IV antibiotic yesterday to kick it up a bit. The original antibiotic she gave me last week made me puke everytime I took it... which could account for the little bit of weight loss I had sadly.
I'm still kind of bummed about surgery but I think it's pretty normal just for where I am and what I've been through lately. I'm finally past the stall - but just very slowly losing ounces now instead of the pounds I was so happy to see in the first couple weeks.

@keddykat75- Wahoo for only 6 days! That means your on your preop diet! Day 2 or 3 is the worst but after that you get use to it. :) Good luck!

@@tacha22001- I hope you are doing much better than me. How's your loss going? Have you had a meeting with the NUT yet? I'm anxious to meet with her because I still feel so lost of what exactly I'm doing.
