Today marks one year since I had my Gastric Sleeve surgery, and I can only say that was the best decision I have ever made. I have lost 120 pounds since the surgery, and I haven't had any problems at all. I do need to get back on track when it comes to exercising because sometimes I get lazy. The day of my surgery was April 14, 2015, and I was 275 pounds that day. Today I am very happy to say I'm 155 pounds, and even though I still have 10 pounds more to lose to be on my goal weight I am very proud of how far I've come. I honestly don't remember the last time I weighted what I weight now or wore medium size clothing, and size 7 dress and pants size. It is unbelievable, and I'm very happy to share this because it is an accomplishment that many of us before the Gastric Sleeve struggle to achieve.

When the jeans you haven't worn in about a year fit perfect again, and you are actually wearing jeans ( I started wearing leggings after my size 16 jeans no longer fit, and I refused to buy clothes until I lost weight)

And btw I felt even more excited and happy when I went to old navy and actually fit perfect and a little loose on the legs into some size 14 shorts ( I stop buying clothes after my size 16 clothes no longer fit, all I wore was leggings and sweat pants)...so with that being said one of the best feelings in the world right now for me

My surgery was 4/14 and I know I work hard to make sure I lose some weight...and hopefully I continue to lose at the rate that I'm losing because the more you lose weight you start losing weight slower

I am officially 51 pounds down and 3 months post op. I'm very happy with the results of my surgery, and surprisingly enough I'm excited about going on vacation on Thursday. I have been following my diet and exercise regime very strictly, and I'm very happy about it. I'll keep everyone updated about how my first vacation after surgery went . I feel excited and about this journey that I have taken and looking forward towards actually making healthier eating choices while on vacation like I have been doing for the the two months since I've been eating solid foods.

Unfortunately jealousy is a huge issue post surgery. I've come to find a colleague at work to make snide comments to make me feel bad, even though she was considering surgery herself. And my best friend was very supportive the week of surgery, but hasn't said much anything to me in the past 6 weeks. It's disappointing and unfortunate. I really thought that friends/family/colleagues who also struggle with weightloss would be the most understanding and supportive, but I'm finding the opposite. Hang in there, don't forget that everyone on this site knows what a huge decision this is and is very happy you're joining the wls family.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery! I believe you will find that some of your relationships will change. People will be jealous and negative. I would suggest going to support groups to connect with people who understand and to build new relationships. Sometimes when people do struggle in the same way, it's hard for them to be happy for others. Branch out and focus on you!

Mamsinator the same thing happens to me I had my surgery April 14 and as of now I have only lost 50 pounds. I stopped worrying about it when I realized that every time I lose weight I stop losing for like 2 or 3 weeks. Sometimes I feel like that's a coping mechanism for my body to adapt to the rapid weight loss...I've always struggled with my weight I was always dieting and exercising even before the surgery, but after the surgery I've been more than happy with my results. Yes! It is taking its time but as far as I'm concern even if is a pound that I'm losing I don't care any more as long as I'm losing weight. I have started to focus more in my body changes than the scale...as long as you keep following the surgeons instructions with proper diet we will make it to our goals

Alot of us fear regain. My revision to the sleeve was Dec 2011, and I can tell you my personal experience matches the statistics, it gets harder to maintain the further out you go. I am maintaining within about 5# of my goal weight, but wishing i was UNDER my goal like I used to be... I am up around 20# from my lowest weight.
anyway, I was thinking about all the doubts I had preop. I was suggested to get the sleeve by my sleep apnea doctor who correctly diagnosed that I was on a path to early death with a side trip through disability. I gave him all the arguments why WLS was a bad idea - all the risks etc but the main one being "doesn't everybody always regain?"
He knew the stats so was able to talk percentages (most people regain some, not all) but more impactful was him asking me a couple of questions.
    1. Imagine you got to goal, and within 5 years you had regained 50% of the weight you lost... would it still be worth it to have had all that time living a normal, healthy life, where you can move around freely, fit in socially... all that stuff?
My answer was of course YES
    2. Imagine the same as above, only in 10 years you do regain all the lost weight. A whole decade of living healthier, trimmer (maybe not thin, but way improved over where I was) - would that be worth it?
My answer was of course YES
I have taken my own doubts and turned them into motivation. I KNOW that it is hard to maintain. Look around - not just formerly morbidly obese - even "normal people" have trouble keeping trim in their middle ages. I view my struggle now as at least possible. I feel like my sleeve has made me more like on an even playing field with all the other 50 year old women working to keep from aquiring a spare tire. Ask any of us, it's a b*tch.
So, for me, this has been worth it but have no illusions, the work continues day after day... in some ways I think maintenance is harder than the losing phase. I think it is human nature to want to cross the finish line, declare victory, and call it good. Doesn't work that way...

So this weekend I went to three different restaurants with my mother, and grandmother for Mother's Day. And I'm proud to say that although I'm still in my soft food stage I did pretty good I had fish ceviche in one of the restaurants that I also ate the next day for lunch, and I had bean Soup at another place and shared it with my sister and best friend, and the ultimate challenge going to a Dominican restaurant ???? I'm Dominican, and I love the food from the place I went with my mother and grandmother, but I just ordered baked salmon which was served with fried plantains that I gave to my grandmother to eat, and I'm still eating some of that salmon for lunch today. Although it might not seem like much I think is a big deal for me I love food and I went to 3 different restaurants over this past weekend, and stayed within the boundaries of my diet in all three of them. ????????????
