this.. Thanks for the info. I was a little surprised to hear I could order from costco online without a membership. However, when I tried to order, a warning message came up that I may be assessed a non-member surcharge. I suppose that could be taken to mean that I may not be assessed, haha. Their prices are nothing special, at least on the premier, that I would pay for a membership. How do you manage to order without a membership with no surcharge?

You and I are in the exact same scenario! I am at 6 months post op and down 95 lbs. I was doing great, consistently losing 2 lbs a week and then it just stopped. I hadn't lost anything in 3 weeks. After trying more exercise, eating better etc. I saw nothing on the scale. I reached out to my NUT and she sent me a pamphlet that had "reasons you are having a stall" one of them was "not eating enough". I hadn't tracked my calories at all since surgery but everything had been going so great that I had not thought of it.
Well, she told me I needed to be at 1000 calories a day and I downloaded My Fitness Pal and tracked away. I was immediately shocked to know I was getting much less every day than that. So, for the last 3 days, I make sure to increase my calories and after an entire month of losing nothing at all, I am down 2 lbs again! So, eat up my friend. Life is weird. This journey is confusing sometimes, but reaching out on here is great and reach out to your NUT. Track your calories, you may be in the same boat as me. Good luck!

I have my 2 week follow up yesterday and I got the okay to start the Stage 4 diet. I left the appointment and went straight to Wholefoods and got a lovely piece of cod. I roasted some carrots and fingerling potatoes and enjoyed dinner with my husband. I didn't eat any potatoes but I did manage to eat 3 oz of fish and 1/4 c. of carrots. It took me a while to get finish but it was so nice to eat food again!

My Kaiser program had a mandatory health education class. We met weekly for three months. We weighed in and had to provide food diaries. I lost 30 lbs before surgery and the knowledge learned has helped me to transition well into post-op life too. I felt like I could have continued losing if the program continued because i had to be accountable and checking in and showing losses were motivating and praised by my NUT. But I felt and still do feel that the surgery is another tool to continue to lose and get me to my goal and then maintain. I will continue to go to support groups with Kaiser to remain accountable and motivated.

thisfathasgot2go reacted to madferitchick in Why do I do this to myself! UGH!
I had a similar situation and the conversation in my head that I couldn't and shouldn't have any McDonald's was making me want more and putting me at risk of a binge. So I made a conscious decision to allow myself a single cheeseburger but to eat the burger only and leave the bun. I found this worked for me, I didn't feel deprived but also didn't beat myself up so much. Damage limitation I guess and maybe worth a thought if you find yourself in this situation again.

thisfathasgot2go reacted to Radar in Things I didn't expect my first month post-op
I didn't expect that I'd be down 43 pounds in the first month. I never had a bit of nausea. I had no trouble sleeping and no problems smelling food, though I didn't expect I could smell a cheeseburger 2 blocks away.
I think exercise is really the key to this thing. The people who did this with me haven't lost even half of what I have. I don't think they are doing the exercise.
I finally got cleared for resistance training so I'll be doing some circuit training along with my cardio now. I also run (I'm being generous, it's more like half jog and half walk) with a group at my job every Wednesday at 5:30am. This week we went 4.5 miles!!!

My plan is to build up strength and stamina until I can do a full 5k run without walking. I'd like to be able to do it before my birthday in February.

thisfathasgot2go reacted to Elizabeth Anderson RD in Dangerous Diet Tip #4: Salads: Your Weight Loss Staple.
Years of diet plans, programs and books make most WLS patients nutrition gurus.
Much of that information is great to have but it's important to separate out the unofficial diet 'rules' that might be unsafe to practice after bariatric surgery.
Today, bariatric dietitian Elizabeth Anderson continues her series on 5 of the most dangerous dieting myths for weight loss surgery patients.

salad. The food most synonymous with the word ’diet.’ Many people LOVE salad. Others eat it because they feel like they should if they’re on a diet.
Nutritionally, the darker the greens, the more brightly colored the vegetables—the healthier the salad.
High volume, low calorie salads make a lot of sense for the average dieter. You feel full on very few calories, provided you skip the high calorie dressing.
But there’s one ingredient many people forget that prevents salad from being a balanced meal---the Protein.< /p>
I tell my weight management clients if they really enjoy salad, it’s a great meal AS LONG AS there is at least 3 ounces of a lean protein included in, on or with the salad.
The protein piece is vital because it helps the meal digest more slowly. This leads to less hunger between meals. The protein is also important to protect lean muscle from being used for fuel when calories are cut.
I tell my weight loss surgery clients, the need for protein is more than just a recommendation, it’s an absolute must.
At least 3 ounces of lean protein (about 15-20 grams of protein) with your salad. I urge you to actually measure out the chicken, cottage cheese, beans....to ensure you are hitting the mark.
A bariatric salad ‘meal’ should look like protein with a little salad on the side rather than a huge bowl of greens with a sprinkle of cheese or half an egg.
As we’ve seen with the other diet myths, standard operating procedures for dieting do not translate after WLS.
Tomorrow, dangerous diet tip #5: It’s all about the calories.

Those nurses should keep their comments to themselves. Glad you rose above that negativity. I am only 15 days post-op, but I can see that you have to be dedicated and motivated to follow directions and not revert back to old ways.

i would take a cup cake and have a bite or two if i was closer to goal lol.
im going back to Protein shakes for a little while. it's the easiest thing to count and i don't feel well most of the time so it doesn't bother me not to eat food right now.
dinner sat fine. i had cinnamon tea later on last night and that was nice. i always feel icky in the morning but that's due to my inherent stomach issues that i had before surgery. so i chew my dreaded Vitamins and Calcium. then take a pepcid. then wait for things to settle. today im having a Protein shake for Breakfast and i'll have yogurt later cuz i think it actually helps with digestion.
in other news im wearing someone i haven't worn in a while so i'll use that as my motivation to continue and not be upset that i don't feel well cuz i really don't care that much truth be told. least i'm losing.
i haven't tried veggies. nor do i miss veggies lol. i will start using cauliflower soon to make some of the lowcarb stuff i used to make (fried "rice" and "pizza") but haven't tried it yet.
have a great day everyone. xo

I found out week 2 that I can't tolerate milk based things either. My dr suggested mixing my unflavored Protein in unsweetened apple juice. I can do the premier protein chocolate. .I use it in my coffee

Ok well let me introduce myself a little better. I'm Megan, I'm 22, and I got sleeved in Mexico on Oct 7. I'm currently in soft foods, but really began to struggle in full liquids. It looks like I'm lactose intolerant and I've really struggled with getting my daily fluids and have basically had no Protein yet. Protein Shakes made me naseous. In fact everything made me nauseous and I had to go to the ER last weekend because I was so dehydrated. I find myself gagging and dry heaving a lot. So I was hoping to find people with similar experiences that could give me any tips. It sounds like you guys are doing great and are kicking butt, I'm proud of you all!

thisfathasgot2go reacted to Ashlegal in Looking for a crispy little snack?
Late last night while studying I craved the salty, crispy yumminess that only comes from a potato chip. I haven't had a potato chip in about a year and before surgery was eat Pop chips, Veggie Sticks, Pork Skins, Pirate's Booty. Ya know Snacks that you convince yourself are not as bad as eating a handful of Lay's.
I have a few different recipes that would satisfy this need PLUS be low-carb, WLS friendly and give me some Protein. I also had a couple of zucchinis in the fridge that needed used, so I Googled, then Pinterested and found this recipe:
Parmesan cheese Crisps Laced with Zucchini & Carrots *Note - I left out carrots. Print Parmesan Cheese Crisps become something extra special with the addition of zucchini and carrot shreds. Easy bake recipe. Ingredients 1 cup Parmesan cheese, freshly shredded (keep in longer shreds) ½ cup shredded zucchini and/or carrots Parchment paper or silpat mat Instructions Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Using a paper towel, remove excess moisture from shredded zucchini and carrots. Combine Parmesan cheese and shredded vegetables. Place Tablespoon size drops of the cheese and vegetable mixture on a baking sheet topped with parchment paper or a silpat mat. Gently flatten mixture with the back of a spoon, if necessary, and move in any loose shreds. Bake for about 8 minutes or until the cheese crisps are sizzling and the edges are starting to brown. Allow crisps to rest on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes and then transfer them to a serving plate with a spatula. Crisps will continue to harden. They were good and while I can't find any nutritional value with the recipe, I can't imagine they wouldn't be suiting for any of us.

so I put some effort into my dinner tonight this is a concoction I layered the bottom with sour cream and avocado and the meat mixture has white Beans ground beef some canned tomatoes garlic salt pepper some cilantro etc. You can see the tiny ass container that I'm using and I'm still barely able to finish it but tonight I made myself finish it because I know I'm not eating enough it was good but I still got the Burpee feeling in my chest which is annoying I'm still probably going to fast I don't know. I feel OK I don't feel like it's going to come back up but I really need to work on getting more in me because I know I won't lose weight if I'm starving

Hi, I was sleeved 8/3, losing weight slowly, but as long as scale is going down. We have 2 pitbulls, that I had to buy from a bum in Compton, Ca, who was not taking care of them. The male was 1, he said and the female 3, but the male was younger, we have them 3 years now, and they are so sweet. the male just wants to play all the time, the female can be a little cranky. They both had torn knees, he had both and she had the right one, so we have spent about 12 to 13 thousand dollars on them, but it is worth it. They also went to boot camp for 3 weeks about 2 years ago. I love dog people. Anyway hope everyone is doing well, take care
