shortgal got a reaction from Debbie Miller1 in Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Ok, so the original question was "how is weight loss for people over 50?'
Right now for me the answer is "turtle like, slow". I'm at a stand still (yeah, I know that's better than gaining) have no restrcition and 10 days away from Dr's appt, where I will be begging for a fill.
I have been living off willpower for most of the time after surgery and well now "mr. will power" is tired of supporting me. Unless I keep my calories intake closer to 800, i don't lose. For a while "Mr. Will" was keeping me close or under 1000, but lately is climbing and now I'm closer to 1100 and 1200 is knocking on my door. AND I joined the November Nymphs Valentine's day challenge to lose!
Ok, prayer chain, please... that I can keep my calories under 1200 daily until my next appt adn that I get a fill at next appt AND (ok sorry to be greedy with the prayer thing but one more) that I get SOME restriction with the next fill.
I have been such a good girl and really need this one!

shortgal got a reaction from brandyII in Come out of the band failure closet!
there is a whole section devoted to complications and many posts are current so I'm not sure why you can't find people to talk to.
I guess perhaps the question is what kind of failure you think you have. There are people who have complications like band slipping or erosion and then there are the more confusing issues, where people have no problem with the band, but don't lose weight.
But in the complication section you should find someone with a similar problem. Good Luck. I'm sorry if you are having a problem with your band. It can happen to any one of us and we all keep our fingers crossed that it doesn't happen to us.

Did you try posting in the SC state group or in the "fill Dr's" section on the forum? Maybe you'll get a few more responses there.
I hope your local TX doc can help you with a referral to another local DR.

shortgal got a reaction from jrob281 in 5 weeks, 3 fills, NO restriction! Is my band a dud?
Yes, Penny I know your opinion on this, but you see there are other opinions as well.
There are all kinds of support, some of it is tough to hear, like when a Mother tells her kids not to do something they want to because she fears it will hurt them.
I have said this journey is hard and I have said many times that until we get restriction it's very hard. But for people that are five weeks or less post op, I would think that even if they can't control their hunger and might eat a little more than they should, couldn;t they at least make good/healthier choices.
Since the band will not prevent certain foods from going down easily, wouldn't it help our long term efforts to practice some of those eating habits, even without good restriction. I'm not talking about losing weight during this time, I'm just talking about those people that might not be making healthy choices, so soon after being cut open.
I do not try to ridicule people, just suggest that they get back on a track so they will be successful in the short term and the long term.
Tough love works for some and hand holding works for others.
