  1. I just revisited this old thread because of a recent question. All the memories of the first real ride after losing a lot of weight came back. Man... the thrill and exhilaration of that day! I just rode 600 miles this past weekend over two days on KY 42 and IN 62 & 66.

Any other touring motorcyclist out there on this forum anymore?

  2. Oh man, there is an enormous difference in riding once you lose a significant amount of weight.

That is a thread I made a couple years ago about it. After that topic, I made my annual trek to the Dragon and had the best experience of my riding life!

As a sleever I’m not suffering with the too stinky poo.....yet, it may be a gift later down the track as I’m only week 3, but my gas is bad.

Its loud, not overly smelly, and I can’t hold them in. It’s worse when I’m walking fast. So embarrassing in the office!!

If you find that you are having excessive gas or gas more frequently - not you personally, any bariatric patient, it could be a sign of eating too fast. I'm not talking about shoveling food in like cadets in boot camp fast, but just quick enough to introduce pockets of air into the digestive track. If possible, walk right after eating. You could just burp a lot of it out.

At home I burn incense at every bowel movement, my family appreciates it but I actually have not noticed any smell difference

Sleeve patients don't tend to have the extremely foul BM's, that is more the province of by-pass patients. malabsorption occurs because food is not digested completely. With less time in the stomach for the acid to break the food down, the intestines can only absorb so much. The rest passes through the bowels partially digested. That's the smell, poop coated food that smells familiar and wrong all at the same time.

Tilapia comes from China and it is garbage. They feed tilapia feces and hormones. They feed it human ****. I would never eat tilapia.

That's been debunked several times. Yes there are places in china like that, but a lot of the tilapia sold in the states are US farmed raised.

As much as I want to, and as much as i've tried...I hate Kale, too. Bleh.

    <snip>

I've tried many a chopped Kale salad recipe...put it in green shakes...I've worked at it....and no dice.

Have you tried making greens with kale? I'll make a huge batch of collard, mustard, turnip, and kale (or any combination of them). I'll take a pound of peppered bacon and get it just to the point of being crispy. Then add some garlic, apple cider vinegar, and as much greens as I can fit in my crock pot. Cook them down and add some more. That's just the basic recipe, you can season it a little differently after that.

I can literally eat that all day.

I haven't blocked anyone yet... might have to start doing that (if that's even still an option)

  8. Woah dude, sorry! I literally have no idea what are you talking about. I am not insinuating what I own is better. The Ninja is a fine blender, I was honestly only telling you about Vitamix. As for adding to the conversation, you recommended a blender so I recommended another one. I liked the Ninja and I like the Vitamix better, thought you may too. If you're not interested, that's fine.

As for me being better than anyone, where do you get that idea from? That just sounds like your own insecurities.

More info is always better than less when tracking trends.

If you are only using those scales at the same time every time you use it and you are fresh from the shower clean AND you are only measuring the change in the readings day over day or week over week as a data comparison and not a true body fat percentage, then they are worth having.

I remember the need to see these things in the beginning, and I don't begrudge anyone wanting extraneous data. I don't agree that inaccurate data is better than no data though. But to each their own.

Oh and Oceanlove if you don't have one, and are looking for a scale, drop the extra coin and save yourself some sanity and get a scale that tracks body fat % as well. Trust me, this extra metric has really quelled my frustrations during stalls... seeing the weight not move sucks, knowing body fat % is dropping even though the weight isn't as really saved me from going crazy!

Those things are notoriously inaccurate. There are so many variables that the manufacturers admit will skew the results (how hydrated you are, amount of electrolytes in your body, when you last ate, when you last exercised, are your feet highly calloused, are your feet dirty...)

If you are only using those scales at the same time every time you use it and you are fresh from the shower clean AND you are only measuring the change in the readings day over day or week over week as a data comparison and not a true body fat percentage, then they are worth having.

  11. Totally understand your concern. At 11 months post op, you are still in that honeymoon phase where the weight loss is easiest. Soon will come the rebound gain and that is where you will usually find the maintenance weight. For me, I dipped below 200 and rebounded about 10-15 lbs. Then with the weight training I fluctuate between 220-230. If I stop lifting that weight starts coming down pretty easy.

It appears as though you are tracking your body stats, which is great. Keep on top of the hydration and try to eat enough to fuel your body. Keep your surgeon in the loop and see where you are 18 month post op.

  12. I am surprised that you are hungry that quickly. I am over 3 years out now and when I eat my Protein post training (5-8 oz meat usually) I am not hungry for at least 2 hours. And sometimes not until I get home from work.

If you are eating nothing but meat, how much are you eating? If it is only 2-4 oz, then I would say you are right where you should be. If you are mixing vegetable and meat, that would explain why you are getting hungry sooner. They just break down quicker. Again, just as it should be.

oh - totally off topic, Tilapia is OK in a pinch, but it really is a garbage fish. If you can manage it, go for just about any other fish. Haddock or cod are my whitefish of choice just because of availability.

  13. Don't worry ladies, all of the threads in the guys and girls rooms are indexed by search engines. Anyone on the internet can read these posts. There is no privacy on forums. The guys/gals room moniker really is only for classifying issue types.

How do you all feel about plant Protein since we are on the subject?

If you are talking about just average day to day life and merely a functioning body, plant based Protein is more than fine. If you are talking about efficacy of protein for tissue repair and bio-availability, you just cannot beat diary & animal protein. They all do the same thing (except collagen protein, it's crap), it's just how effective it is.

Think of it as alcohol. You can have several 750 ml bottles of liquor. They will all will get you drunk, but the Bacardi 151 will get you drunk faster and more immediately than the DiSaronno. (In this example, whey would be the rum and soy the amaretto.)

My doctor told me that dumping syndrome doesn’t happen in gastric sleeve

A drastic spike in blood sugar or fats can cause mild symptoms in an otherwise normal person. However a person who has had surgery on their stomach; not just WLS, can dump. Drooling, sweating, vomiting, explosive diarrhea... all the greatest hits! True Dumping Syndrome is something only people who have had some sort of gastric related surgery, but even someone who has never had surgery can experience the symptoms. I have experienced it a few times, but never on the same thing twice. Once you experience it, you will be gun-shy ever after.

Anyone have reccs on airfryer brands?

Cook's Essentials from QVC was our first one and in my wifes opinion it was the best one. Next was a GoWise USA because she wanted a bigger one. Unfortunately it was just OK. Then we got another brand that neither my wife nor I can remember the name of because it broke within days of using it.

I became so fed up with the revolving door of air fryers that I dropped the money for a Breville Smart Oven Air:

    https://www.amazon.com/Breville-BOV900BSS-Smart-Oven-Silver/dp/B01N5UPTZS

This is of course so much more than an air fryer. It is an incredible appliance, but if I am going to be completely honest, for just air frying... the very first one we bought was the best. But you can only do one entire chicken breast or two-ish filets. Literally the only bad thing about that thing.

  17. Speaking as a happily married man, I have found that post op I am far more active and involved in activities. With that increased exposure, flirting and being asked out happens incredibly frequently. It is to the point that my kids have even started piping up and telling the women that I am married. Just bluntly blurting "He's married." if they see anything they consider flirtatious.

It always seems to happen when I am most oblivious or I am doing something not generally associated with looking for attention. At the gym, taking the kids shopping, asking for help in a store, asking directions... just average mundane daily activities. How you carry yourself makes a huge impact on people.

@LaLaDee your profile pic is beautiful, I'm betting you are getting flirted with and may not be realizing it yet.
