Don't worry ladies, all of the threads in the guys and girls rooms are indexed by search engines. Anyone on the internet can read these posts. There is no privacy on forums. The guys/gals room moniker really is only for classifying issue types.

Protein - How much is too much?

If you are talking about just average day to day life and merely a functioning body, plant based protein is more than fine. If you are talking about efficacy of protein for tissue repair and bio-availability, you just cannot beat diary & animal protein. They all do the same thing (except collagen protein, it's crap), it's just how effective it is. Think of it as alcohol. You can have several 750 ml bottles of liquor. They will all will get you drunk, but the Bacardi 151 will get you drunk faster and more immediately than the DiSaronno. (In this example, whey would be the rum and soy the amaretto.)
  3. A drastic spike in blood sugar or fats can cause mild symptoms in an otherwise normal person. However a person who has had surgery on their stomach; not just WLS, can dump. Drooling, sweating, vomiting, explosive diarrhea... all the greatest hits! True Dumping Syndrome is something only people who have had some sort of gastric related surgery, but even someone who has never had surgery can experience the symptoms. I have experienced it a few times, but never on the same thing twice. Once you experience it, you will be gun-shy ever after.
  4. That's funny, this was the #1 thing my surgeon said to avoid. It's pure sugar. Aside from the carbs, it is famous for causing dumping syndrome. If you do it, stay close to a toilet.

    Fried Chicken

Cook's Essentials from QVC was our first one and in my wifes opinion it was the best one. Next was a GoWise USA because she wanted a bigger one. Unfortunately it was just OK. Then we got another brand that neither my wife nor I can remember the name of because it broke within days of using it. I became so fed up with the revolving door of air fryers that I dropped the money for a Breville Smart Oven Air: https://www.amazon.com/Breville-BOV900BSS-Smart-Oven-Silver/dp/B01N5UPTZS This is of course so much more than an air fryer. It is an incredible appliance, but if I am going to be completely honest, for just air frying... the very first one we bought was the best. But you can only do one entire chicken breast or two-ish filets. Literally the only bad thing about that thing.

Dating after surgery and weight loss

Speaking as a happily married man, I have found that post op I am far more active and involved in activities. With that increased exposure, flirting and being asked out happens incredibly frequently. It is to the point that my kids have even started piping up and telling the women that I am married. Just bluntly blurting "He's married." if they see anything they consider flirtatious. It always seems to happen when I am most oblivious or I am doing something not generally associated with looking for attention. At the gym, taking the kids shopping, asking for help in a store, asking directions... just average mundane daily activities. How you carry yourself makes a huge impact on people. @LaLaDee your profile pic is beautiful, I'm betting you are getting flirted with and may not be realizing it yet.

    Fried Chicken

I eat this all the time. We haven't fried traditionally in years though, just an air fryer. As a huge fan of fried chicken since I was a kid, I can honestly say that that the best fried chicken I ever had was fried in lard in a cast iron skillet, 2nd best was air fried with pork rind coating. Seriously that good in my opinion.

    Don't pray for me

lol, I love how my comment of slaughtering a chicken links to the BariatricPal store. If I need to slaughter a chicken, at least I can do it in a bariatric friendly way.

    Don't pray for me

I see elformans pont. Think of another way - what if someone just nonchalantly offered to slaughter a chicken as a token of goodwill for your upcoming surgery? Or if someone offered to perform a ritual to their lord and master Satan? Many people would be aghast at the thought. On the other hand, if someone said prayers were being done for me, I would just assume they meant positive thoughts and let it roll off my back. If someone is posting something that a is looking for support, offering to pray for someone is just that persons way of showing support. No different than saying Merry Christmas to a stranger who is actually Jewish. Take the comment as it was intended, not as an innuendo to convert another.

    Beginning Workout

yeah, I've read that one. The part of the conclusion that is important is here: Trained individuals are already stronger than the untrained individuals in this study. I think a big part of the problem with dropsets is the confusion people sometimes incur with backoff's. Lets take my Deadlift for example. If I want to increase the volume of my training, there is no way I can do more than 5 reps of my workset. However I can do a dropset or dropsets after I do the work set. Here is my deadlift routine: 135x5 135x5 165x5 195x3 225x2 260x5 The first sets are my warm-up, the last is my workset. If I felt that I needed more volume on that day, I would drop that workset by 25% (which incidently is the 195) and do another set of 5. But honestly, lifting at my max doesn't often leave me with much in the tank after the workset. While I think we can both agree that volume is important, how we decide to get there is different. If you are truly interested in strength over pretty muscles, I heartily recommend Starting Strength 3rd edition. There is no finer nor more detailed literature available for strength training.

I understand your thinking, but dropsets are actually a very bad way to build strength. Yes, you will feel a pump from the muscle being engorged from increased blood flow, but that is not the same as building strength. Let's use squats as an example. You might be able to do 12 reps on the first set of the bench press but you should stop at 9 or 10. Stopping before muscle and nervous system fatigue will allow you to complete the full set. So lets say that you squatted 100 lbs for 12 reps, then 8, 6, and 4 for a total of 30 reps. That would give you a total volume of 3,000 lbs. However, if you dropped that to 8 reps for the entire set, you would have 32 reps for a total volume of 3,200 lbs. As you get further and further into your strength training, the disparity become even greater. All that being said, I don't do that many reps in any of my sets. Sure, I could probably do 12 reps at 185 lbs, but 3 sets of 5 reps at 245 lbs provides me with 3,675 lbs of volume work. As for the OP's question, 2 weeks post op I would focus on just walking. Your stamina is going to be very, very low. The threat of reactive hypoglycemia is very real, as is low blood pressure. Getting dizzy is common and fainting is not unheard of (as me how I know!). There is no time in your life when the weight will come off faster and easier than this point of your recovery. Capitalize on it. Once you are hitting your fluid and protein goals or more for the week, then start Pilates or resistance training. I actually liked Pilates in the beginning. Once that is no longer kicking your butt, start real weights. Squats and deadlifts are the two must important movements the we as humans need to do properly. If you are picking up small children or heavy bags, moving furniture, etc... you are using the same muscles, so start training them when you are able.

    Unflavored Protein

The Genepro argument - and it always turns into an argument - basically boils down to the people who use it refuse to accept they are wrong. MuscleGen had to come clean and admit they were lying, but the people who were fooled don't want to admit they were fooled. I get it, it's embarrassing to be wrong sometimes. But adamantly refusing to accept the truth only makes the person look more foolish. Perfect example was when I used to preach the substitution of pork rinds for anything crunchy, because... you know, they are pure protein! Well, when I finally understood that collagen protein is worthless I had to fess up and admit I was wrong. (I will admit that we still use the rinds to coat our fish when we air fry them.)

    Unflavored Protein

Yeah, here is my favorite: https://www.pacermonitor.com/public/case/19892822/SI03,_Inc_v_Musclegen_Research,_Inc It is crap and was successfully sued for false claims of "medical grade protein" and the claimed 30 grams of Protein. It is actually been proven in court that it is only 11 grams.

Unfortunately there is no way to undo the damage to the skin after it has been stretched. There is also the fact that new soon has grown to cover our girth when we were fat. That doesn't go away, it can only be removed. No oil or lotion can do that. Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.

There is no such thing as toning. That is merely marketing speak for the temporary swelling of muscle tissue post workout, i.e. "swole". Here is a nice article by a coach I respect: https://startingstrength.com/training/three_ways_to_not_get_bulky_from_lifting When you are lifting any weights, oxygen and nutrients are carried to the muscles for fuel. They are carried there by the water in our blood. That is where the firmness comes from after lifting. That is the muscle bellies ability to retain fluid so that the fuel can be burned and the waste carried away. The only way to increase the amount of muscle tissue that can hold more water and fuel is by the overload of the muscle and subsequent healing and rebuild of said tissue. That is why "toned" muscle never stays after people quit lifting light weights for high reps. Perfect example, here is me when I was doing high rep weight lifting: Looks nice and big, right? Here is a more current picture of me: Not quite as impressive, eh? My arms are not as big, but I can lift twice as much weight one year later after switching to low volume/high weight. My deadlift at the time of the first picture was about 120-135 lbs. Second picture I am lifting 260. While not Herculean by any stretch of the imagination, it is an movement I was unable to do 3 years ago. But that is another story for another time. The point of my reply is this; if you want pretty muscles, lower weight and high volume is the way to accomplish that. If you want stronger, lower volume and higher weight. There is nothing wrong with either desire, but do not confuse the results of either method.

Light weights and more reps will not build muscle. The only way to build new muscle tissue is by over stressing the existing muscle to the point of tears. Then with caloric surplus, the protein is used to build new, tougher tissue to repair the stressed muscle. All the light weight/high rep plans will do for a person is condition the existing muscle to have endurance. Yes it will be more efficient at burning calories over a longer period of time, but you will not be getting stronger.

    Stretching Pouch?

No you cannot stretch your sleeve out. Especially with liquids. A properly performed VSG cannot stretch back nor grow new tissue to replace the fundus. Worse case scenario, you could weaken the pylorus leading out of the stomach into the intestine OR weaken the esophegeal sphincter. But that would take a long time of repeated over eating. Most times, in this forum, people will say that the sleeve stretched to cover their bad eating habits. Follow plan and you will be fine. Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.
