I am familiar with Urban Dictionary, but there is no way I am going there on my work computer!
  3. @Mhy12784 - if added muscle is your goal, then no. While it is true that you will need more protein & calories in order to build muscle, that protein will need to be digested first in order to make it available for synthesis. The majority of digestion takes place in the stomach. The intestines is where the digested food and nutrients is then transferred to the blood stream. If the food is washed out of the stomach before it is completely broken down, it will not be absorbed and will mostly pass through the intestines. This is more likely with bypass patients as it is textbook malabsorption. If you truly need more protein and calories in a fast absorbing form, look for a hydrolized protein. To the OP, it is exactly like you stated, a slippery slope. Eventually you can form the habit to drink while eating which will wash the food out of you stomach and you will get hungry sooner. I am almost 3 years out and the only modification I have made to the 30/30 rule originally given to me is that I will drink up until I start eating. After I start, I do not take another drink until 30 minutes after my last bite. I find that while I may at first be dying for a drink, after a few minutes, that desire fades. Only time that is it difficult is when I am eating something that is spicy (e.g. homemade habanero jelly).

Sorry, according to my kids I am terminally uncool. I have no idea what that means.

lol, wait a minute... are you saying this is a matter of gender? Like there is a cabal of members singling out women and attacking them for the sole reason of being female and not doing something reckless?

Actually, kind & supportive are not synonymous. While you started this thread, there is a very real possibility that hundreds of people may read it. If being truthful and honest by stating what you did was not only a bad idea but possibly life threatening is not supportive to you, then aberry was being supportive to the other people whom have not commented and/or are not aware that it is most decidedly a bad idea. It always comes up in threads where recent post op members do something fooling that they play the "this place is supposed to be a judgement free zone and is all about support. This place may be supportive for many, but the intent of this website is to connect people with surgeons and then ecommerce for the bariatricpal online store for food and vitamins, and information sharing. That is it. Information and discussion first and foremost. Now back to your post on pizza. It was bad. Life threatening bad. Is crappy pizza really worth risking your life over? Would you have truly felt better if no one cared enough to tell you the truth? Since I have been here, there have been many that have broke the rules very early. I don't know why, but it is almost always pizza. Or tacos. Sometimes alcohol. Back before the great purge of vets and posts, there was even someone that died from eating solid foods within the first week. I think it was pizza, but I cannot remember for sure. Going through the posts, I don't really know all these people. I am not taking sides, but I did want to comment so that anyone that reads and doesn't comment can see a dispassionate post on the topic.

    Hematoma

Quick note about pain killers; they will constipate you. Get off them as soon as you can. Otherwise it will feel like you are trying to pass a pineapple on the john. Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.

    Hematoma

Oh, there was no pain associated with mine. It just felt weird. After it burst, it was disgustingly hollow. Let me mention that I am a wimp when it comes to these things. My wife and daughter thought it was the coolest thing ever. Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.

    Hematoma

Mine happened less than 2 weeks out. I know because it was right before I went back to work. Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.

    Hematoma

Only thing I was told when I had mine was moist heat. Just so you don't freak out - I remember when mine burst open. I was in the in my chair and absently scratched at my stomach when there was an itch or tickle. I don't know if it had started leaking and that's what caused the itch, but the gentle scratch unleashed a flood. I freaked out! Dark muddy blood was flowing from my largest incision area. I shuffled to the bathroom and kept folding toilet paper to absorb the blood. I don't remember how much there was, but it seemed to continue to empty forever. And when it finally stopped and I stood back up, it started all over again. I called the hotline and they explained what was going on and told me to calm down. The next day I went to the surgeons office and they packed it with gauze and left it open to drain. It will heal from the inside out. Left with a patch of gauze taped to me and was back to normal. I ended up using a maxipad taped to my stomach for the next couple days. I joked to my boss and wife about my entire ordeal up to then. I was cranky, tired, swinging from being OK then weepy and full of regret the next, and now I was using a maxipad. Obviously I had just gotten my first period.
  11. An hour?! Wow, my rules stated 30 minutes. I still follow that rule at almost 3 years post op. The reason for the post meal delay is to allow the food to be broken down as much as possible and feel satiated longer. Drinking too soon can flush the partially digested food into the intestines prematurely. The wonderful side effect of that can be flatulence that is especially potent as well as malabsorption since the food wasn't completely digested. And of course feeling hungry sooner than necessary. Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.
  12. Man, I had forgot about the crushed pills. One important note for anyone reading this thread that may not be aware - not all pills can be crushed. Some medications are coated to pass through the stomach and break down in the intestine. Do not blindly crush all pills! This is one of the reasons that you need to go over your medication list with your surgeon, to determine which pills you may crush. To the OP, I mixed mine with yogurt. Back then I ate the strong fruity flavored ones because they were the texture I was used to. (I only eat plain greek Fage now) Strong flavors allowed me to mask the bitterness of the meds. I am now back to normal with taking pills. I take 6 pills with a sip of anything. And 4 of those are rather large vitamins.
  13. This is me. I have 5, one of which is like a second navel. I don't really care though because of the scars from stretched skin are far more ugly in my opinion.

    It's lose not loose (smh)

@jenn1 - I'm getting a sense of deja vu... It's already been about a year and a half since the last dead horse beating. Kinda surprised it took this long. Remember when I made the grammar rant? Man, that was a shitshow.

    Flavor-free protein powders

Meaning that any unflavored protein powder will have the taste of the power itself. No vanilla or chocolate to mask the taste. Flavorless would mean you could add it to something and not know it is there. In my opinion, that doesn't exist. Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.

I believe I was just insulted at my gym.

I would like this post over and over if I could. I wouldn't go tattling that someone hurt my feelings. I would more likely get in their face and make them feel uncomfortable. Draw attention to their stupidity.

    Strange dizzy spells

I had to increase my sodium intake. You could have knocked me over with a feather when my doctor told me that. Since I was 13 I have had high blood pressure and made it a habit to avoid salt. Now I have to use it on food to keep from falling over! I still love the fact that I am off both BP meds and metformin. Totally worth the trade off.

    Strange dizzy spells

This sounds a lot like hypoglycemia or hypotension syncope. If you had high blood sugars or blood pressure pre-op it is not uncommon to go the other way post op. Happened to me.

I believe I was just insulted at my gym.

I don't know if it was an insult honestly. They were probably remarking to each other you were hot or something to that effect. Don't get me wrong, they are pigs. But it sounds like a objectifying action more than a personal insult.

    Flavor-free protein powders

I don't have a recommendation unfortunately, I just wanted to reply with some information. There is a huge difference between flavor free and unflavored. I never found a protein powder that was worth having that was also free of some sort of flavor. Unflavored protein powder means just that - nothing added to mask the taste. Flavor free means no taste whatsoever. The only thing that comes to mind in that camp would be Genpro which is snake oil and should be trashed. Of course, after their latest lawsuit loss, I don't know if they will be selling it much longer. The only way to use the unflavored powder is to add it to something with very strong flavors. Any curry soups would be good, chicken noodle not so much.
