  1. How are you doing?

  2. So how are you doing?

  3. I was told Prilosec for 3 months after surgery and gasx strips are wonderful! It sounds like you have a gas bubble. The gas from surgery they use to blow everything up so they can see inside your tummy can stay there for a month or so. I had back pains that were really just gas bubbles!

Ok I'm four weeks out now and it seems everything makes me sick that I try to eat besides yougurt! it seems I should be able to eat mashed potatoes, scrambled egg, or smooshed Beans without getting sick! I can't eat real food till 6 weeks but I can't even handle soft foods so am I ever going to be able to eat anything? What are ya'll eating?
  6. Getting really sad. I'm not suppose to eat real food till 12 weeks out and for now everything I eat seems to give me nausea except for yogurt and I'm really getting tired of yogurt. I've lost 20 lbs since surgery and that really doesn't seem like much to me. I'm getting really down, only 20 lbs and can't eat anything but yogurt! It just seems like for all this trouble I should either lose more weight or be able to at least eat some mashed potatoes or beans!

I messed up, it is 6 weeks I get to try real foods, slowly. I was doing ok with several things until about a week ago and all of a sudden everything I eat upsets my tummy. Hope it goes away as weirdly as it came on!! How's the weight loss going? Are you able to do any exercise yet?

Well to add insult to injury, I got a stress fracture in my heel back when I first started this process in February. I was in a orthopedic boot for 9 weeks (including while I was in the hospital for surgery), so the boot is off but I still have pain which they think is plantar fasciitis. I have walked and rode a bike. There is a gym close enough to my home to walk, so Sunday I walked up there and rode the bike and walked back. :) Good workout but boy did I hurt later. Maybe not quite ready for 45 minute work out. All to say, I have not been consistent for sure. Tough to do when you feel like crap! When I do though, I lose more! Re weight loss not as much since surgery date as I hoped - I think it's 16 pounds? Since pre-op liquid diet, it's like 26 pounds? But all the way back to February when I first had my apt and started the 3 month NUT visits, I am down 42, so I am happy with that number. Just surprised it's not more since surgery given I am only eating about 600 calories a day! Oh well.... it will come off. I haven't seemed to hit a stall like everyone else has week 3, so maybe that's a good sign that it is just steadily coming off. Glad to hear it is only 6 weeks. That's much better! Hope the upset tummy goes away for you soon! Not fun!

I had plantar fasciitis before, had to get steroid shots in my foot before I would go on vacation just to make sure I would be able to walk and enjoy vacations! Then I started wearing Crocs all the time during the week and it healed up. Wore them for about two years and now I wear whatever tennis shoes I want to wear with my scrubs. Did they give you exercises to do to stretch the ligament? Try wearing Crocs or shoes with really good arch support. WOW 45 minutes is awesome, were you doing that before surgery? If not then you probably should back down a bit. What gym are you walking to? I have a membership at LA Fitness out there. I've lost 15.9 since surgery and 22.5 since the week before surgery when I started the liquid diet. I had hoped for more also. I wonder how much I have to lose to change pants sizes? 42 pounds is a lot!! Your doing great! Hang in there!

  7. @@James Marusek I just read your link, loved it! So helpful! How do you eat two apples? I'm 4 weeks out and constipation is a big problem and nothing seems to help.
  8. Am I normal? I have lost 22 lbs since the week before surgery when I started the liquid diet and I can only eat two or three bites before I get that pressure in my chest?

    1. BLERDgirl

      BLERDgirl

      Yes, perfectly normal.

      Spiceyfrog

I would say yes. I am three weeks post-op and after I had switched to soft foods, I had ate 1/2 cup of creamed soup a couple days in a row, then all of the sudden I got that pain. The following day I cut back to 1/4 cup and have been fine since.

It is so hard to eat more often and follow the 30/30 rule, because now that I am eating, I am not getting 64 ounces in. It's a catch 22!

Try eating less and eating slower, even when it's something like soup. Also try standing up and walking after eating.

I'm tired of Protein shakes also but gotta get it in somehow! I tried eating an egg this morning and managed about half before I felt that pressure in my chest. Is that normal? I feel like I should be able to eat a whole egg? Almost everything I've tried I can only eat two or three bites and I'm feeling that pressure! Had surgery June 1st. I've only lost 20lbs since surgery, that doesn't sound right either? How's everybody else doing?
  10. My doc said get between 800-1200 calories and 80-120 gms protein.

    @Daisee68 whats the app?
  12. I'm really confused, some folks are saying their docs want them off Protein shakes at 3 weeks? Why? How do you possibly get enough protein without them? I'm not getting enough protein even with them! My doc has said I'll pretty much have to drink at least two a day forever. Someone enlighten me

    Surgery Tomorrow

I only spent one night in the hospital and was home by the next day, which I must say was the worst! It was the first day without my IV pain meds and the liquid Tylenol 3 was just not cutting it so I didn't even bother. Figured the narcotics would just constipate my anyhow! The Gas X strips are a lifesaver! Haven't had diarrhea once, have the other problem so I'm doing benefiber and stool softner and waiting! and waiting! I'm 19 days out now, still don't feel like I'm getting enough Water but I'm getting all I can handle! How much liquids are ya'll getting?
  15. sparksrn

Anyone else's post op like this?

I did clear liquids for a week then full liquids and then at week three soft foods. At 6 weeks I go to normal diet. And all of this is just a guideline. When I went to soft foods if I didn't tolerate it well I could always go back to liquids and try again in a week. Listen to your body. Look at your states board of medical license and see if your doc has had any lawsuits filed against him.

Stall out on weight week 3-4

Monday will be the 3 week mark for me. I started soft foods this week but I swear I'm not eating hardly anything, just 3-5 bites at lunch and dinner. I have my two Protein shakes a day and then struggle the rest of the time trying to get in enough fluids! First two weeks I was down 20lbs, this week 0.7! Ugh!

I know what you mean about the one bite that pushes you over the full level and it hurts! Wish I knew what "full" felt like before I get to that point! I've heard of a few people becoming lactose intolerant, could that be your problem with the yogurt? Any other dairy give you a problem since the yogurt incidence?

I had RNY June 1st. I'm eating the usual eggs, refried Beans but yesterday I had cheese tortellini! Could only eat three of the little boogers but they were so good! I haven't figured out what full feels like until its to late and I feel like I've been kicked in the chest so I just stop with 3-6 bites. That's an awful feeling! Still a little sore on the left side and have a big dip in my stomach under my left incision, anybody else? I can't seem to get enough Water In! It's hard to get a bunch of water down when you can't drink with or after meals and you can't drink in your sleep and if I drink to much to fast I get nauseated. I'm like the rest of you, I just want a normal life again, normal routine! I lost twenty pounds the first two weeks and then this week just 0.7 Very disappointed and wish I knew what to do to turn it around and get to loosing again. This is to hard to not loose more than that! I'm drinking 60gms of Protein a day (22oz). What should I do?
  20. I swear I feel like I'm breathing in dust or I'm in a really smokey room! What's going on?
  21. As long as your getting your Protein in (even if it's in shake form) and enough fluids you should be ok. Just keep taking your Vitamins. You will eventually get to eating. I don't see how not eating can slow your progress and long as your doing the rest. After all that is what we did right after surgery and we lost weight then?

    Good vs. Bad

I totally understand what your saying and I wonder if I'll ever get there. I'm 18 days post op and I'm afraid to eat anything for fear it will make me sick, it will get stuck, it will give me dumping syndrome, I will gain weight. food, all food, has become the enemy!
  23. Does anyone have problems feeling like the air they are breathing is dusty or like your in a smoke filled room?

Hmmm...did they ask you to use an incentive spirometer? Are you moving around as much as you can? It may be from the anesthesia, sometimes that affects people's lungs and deep breathing helps clear it out. If it continues call your surgeon's office to ask.

    Question about dumping

I haven't experienced dumping yet but I have experienced that one bite to many! I don't get a full feeling so I don't know when to stop! So now I just stop after 4 or 5 bites now matter what!
