slvarltx got a reaction from southernbelle256 in Newbie-- question(s)
at 6 months I am eating over 1600 calories a day and still slowly losing. My doctor wants me at 2000 calories after another 5 pounds. Go to a seminar and then a consult with a doctor. The internet is full of horror stories as the 99% of us that are doing just fine don't have a lot to say other than this surgery was extremely helpful in reaching my healthy body weight. Think of the nightly news, they never say, "everything was just fine today" and sign off. Best of luck to you.

I got very dizzy at the same point. Had to immediately stop taking my BP medicine as my BP was too low. Went away after 2 days.

slvarltx got a reaction from Anilyn in Starting the process could use some encouragement
12 months ago I was on my first month of 6 month period to satisfy insurance requirements. I weighed 335 lbs and took medication for high blood pressure. Today I weigh 213 and take no medication.
    Here are my tips:
    1. Try and learn as much as you can about the operation
    2. Try to adopt the diet/lifestyle ahead of the operation as much as you can
    3. Don't let the process overwhelm you
    4. Learn what the steps of the process and then only focus on the next step
It can feel overwhelming when looked at as a whole, but if you break it down it becomes less intimidating. Best of luck to you!

Interesting news for all of us, the bean counters have started adding up how much you save by getting WLS. Since I basically pay all my medical costs out of pocket, I'm all in...

slvarltx got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in 4 months post op, 72 lbs down, food/life adjustments
@trialatty My experience is very similar to yours. At almost 6 months post-op, I hardly think about the sleeve anymore. I get on the scale once in awhile, just to see what is happening. Sometimes it hasn't moved, other times I am down about 5-6 lbs. At this point, I don't really care as my eating is under control, and that was what was keeping me fat to begin with. I don't count calories at all. I DO follow the Protein first, veggies, carbs rule. If I really want some bread at a restaurant, I grab a piece and just pull off a corner and enjoy that one little piece and let the rest sit there. If I get in the mood to "pig" out at night, I usually mix a little PB2 chocolate and milk, and that consistency usually does the trick. I travel a lot for work, and get a lot of "is that all you want" from the wait staff, but I just say "yes, that's it, unless you are buying me more!", gets me a chuckle and they move off. I will eat 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, and sliced tomatoes as my go to travel meal. I drink a beer or 2 once in awhile if I am in a social setting. My life has just changed for the better as I am not dragging around an extra 116 lbs. My sleeve reset my body and my mind. It is the new normal.

For my program, dairy products play an important role. My go to substitute "ice cream" is 2 carbmaster yougurts (60 cal each with 8 g Protein each) and then mix in an powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chocolate splendor single serving (100 cal with 21 g protein)
This little gem gives me 37 grams of Protein for 220 calories. I really like the bananas flavor as mixed with the Unjury it tastes like boston cream pie.
I also enjoy milk and cheese as part of my diet.

The nice thing is post-op you can still eat the burger, just no fries, bun, or carbonated sugar Water. I used to go pickup a 12 pack of Taco's at Taco bell and eat them all! I still eat a burger now and again (no bun) plus every couple of months I go get chicken wings (naked, with sauce on the side). In general the cravings from non-nutritional food is gone.
