Okay, one thing at a time, sweet girl.
    1. You are going to be okay.
    2. Vomiting is your body's way of saying "that was too much, please don't feed me that much again", so listen to your body and take a note on your phone or notepad, or whatever and keep it in mind. Our eyes are bigger than our stomachs, even a few months out.
    3. Remember when your doc, or whoever told you before the surgery that the surgery itself isn't a fix? It's just a tool. It's a temporary thing while you work on the mental part of why we overeat and why we turn to food for comfort / boredom, etc.
    4. If you've vomited, you've probably eaten too much at that sitting.
    5. Yes, the stomach can stretch, but that probably takes a bit longer than the few months from your surgery, so I don't think an occasional overeating will stretch it. Just be mindful of each meal.
    6. If you mess up, DON'T FRET. Just start the next meal or the next morning, a fresh start.
    7. If you have the resources (insurance / finances / time), maybe research a counselor to help figure out the mental part of the puzzle.
    8. You're not overreacting.
    9. You're doing great!!!! 59 pounds is AWESOME!!

momof2tx got a reaction from ld33 in Is returning to work after 5 days reasonable?
That is pushing it, but everyone is different. I am a substitute clerk at a high school, so I have a desk job too. It was 9 days post op and that was pushing it, but it can be done. I have read that some people go back 3-4 days post op and are okay. Don't expect much of yourself when you get home for a few weeks, just working during the day will wear you out because those first few weeks post op, you are consuming so few calories, you're exhausted.

It wouldn't have been in my case. I was readmitted to the hospital and was still there 5 days postop. I took four weeks off and I needed every bit of them and yes, I have a desk job.
Will you be sent home on full liquids? Will you be able to get them in at work?

    here's the deal.
I took one week off because I have a desk job. it was fine. I had NO COMPLICATIONS. what if you do?
I would fill out the FMLA so you are covered. my doctor approved 4 weeks off. ok, lets plan for the worst and hope for the best. when I did fine they released me to come back to work.
Should you have any problems at all you will be glad you have the FMLA paperwork done and it will protect your job.

Every experience is different. I couldn't have gone back in 5 days. I went back after 2 weeks & was SUPER exhausted even at that point.

Alot of places require a Drs note if out for more than 3-5 days. Be sure your Surgeon will release you that soon. I agree with @@Christinamo7 filling out FMLA paperwork is a good idea (if you're eligible). I would be very careful going back too soon.

I am by no means an "expert but can tell you from fresh experience, I just had mine done 3 days ago. I didn't wake up with any drains, my doc said he hasn't had to use drains in a couple years. I did have a catheter. Friday (surgery day) I don't even remember. Saturday was bad, Sunday was not much better. Monday was a turn around day. Kept everything down and am feeling less sore. I haven't needed to take any pain meds except once tonight though that was only for the incision where they excised the stomach. I cannot imagine how people don't stay In the hospital, my dr makes his patients stay 2 nights and he would have let me stay a 3rd night, but I was anxious to get home.n if you have any questions, feel free to message me. My dr's scale is 3.5 pounds more than my home scale. I know how you feel. Go by your home scale since that's the one you're on most. I'm sorry :-/

Just to clarify I am having no acid or reflux issues. I've been on Prilosec since before surgery n haven't had any issues. I also know it's not head hunger. I'll eat n then within an hour or two I'm hungry again. I'm certain it's not head hunger. I just think I need something more substantial. I think I'm gonna try the Wendy's chili n see what happens.

I had countless "last" meals. My "last" meal at Chipotle, "last" meal at On the Border, "last" meal at Chuy's Mexican, "last" burger at Whataburger, etc........ go ahead and enjoy whatever now because it won't fit. I'm 15 days post-op and can get 1 sugar free popsicle in. liquid diet wasn't hard until day 2.

Surgery was Friday, May 15th. Doc generally keeps patients in hospital for 2 days and would have kept me a 3rd if I wanted, but I was anxious to get home. Friday I remember nothing from after the surgery. Saturday was a rough nauseous day, nurse brought me a Phenergran injection, so that knocked me for a 16 hour loop right into Sunday. Finally kept everything down from about noon Sunday and since then. This is rough though. Not easy AT ALL!!! Praying for all the patients that have had their sleeves done, and the patients in the process of getting theirs done. One day at a time.

momof2tx got a reaction from Gracy0721 in How can reach my protein goals without shakes?
Every shake brand I tried and every possible fruit / flavor, etc... combination made me just want to barf. powder, pre-mixed, milk based, Water based, whatever it was all just disgusting. I finally resigned myself to Isopure clear They look like Gatorade. GNC has them. They come in 20 oz bottles and has 40 g of Protein. I've even been making Isopure popsicles and that's helped too! Black bean Soup is pretty much all pureed too, so you can try that as well.

    Stay strong!
You will start to feel better soon. I wasn't wiped out quite so much after surgery as you but really struggled with getting the fluids in. It took me a good week and a half to be able to sip Water without getting the twisting, gurgling feeling. I found the first 2 weeks tough as I could never seem to stomach the same thing more than once. I found miso Soup to be a really great option. It contains a bit of Protein (even if only a little) and it was a pleasant relief from all the sweet things that seem to take on a liquid form much better than savoury things. I'm just over 3 weeks post-op now (surgery on 27th April) and finding it easier every day.
Good luck and congratulaions and stay focussed on the long term results!!

I am a new newbie I am hoping to have my surgery in December, so excited and still lots of little questions. Can you tell me about the day of surgery, what you experienced, did you have to have catheters, drain tubes etc. I have never had a surgery before other than childbirth, so that part is what freaks me out more that anything. I am having the laprascopic sleeve. Any other details you want to share would be great, pain levels etc.
