  1. I am just 3 and a half weeks out...and I know very little. However, I will share something I remember from Weight Watchers years ago. A very heavy lady began losing weight rapidly and the speaker asked her how much fat she had a day and told her to take a tsp of olive oil every day. She attributed the hair loss to low fat intake. 2 weeks late the woman reported that the hair loss had stopped. So, if this happens to me- I'm going to try it. Disclaimer: However, this is not founded by anything outside of this one conversation. I did Google hair loss and fat and there are a few articles there. I'm not suggesting it is the only thing responsible...just something I'm willing to try.
  2. Thank you wannBthinsoon I did both..I typed in 251 and my profile is still showing 256. Prior to that it was 253 so I think there is a glitch there somewhere.

    Full feeling?

Yes, I actually think that is when I may have had too much...and it is definitely full! Last night I overate something because I was not mindful- in fact- I attempted to finish it simply because it was in front of me. Miss Mac is right when she says to measure and when I see my doc on Wednesday I'm going to ask them about that. I am keeping a notebook so I can jot down questions as they come up- I was still stupified one week after surgery. lol.

    Yikes...did something unthinking

Yes, pre measuring... head smack! I like the idea of leaving some for the dog...My dog eats more than I do these days!
  5. Hello, I know I maybe should post this on another forum but I feel like this one gets more attention. I am 23 days out and my doc said intimacy is just fine- now worries. The issue I have now is...although I am almost healed up in my midsection I still have bruising and the incisions are still visible. So my question is this...Has anyone come up with a creative way to cover just that area while still being able to indulge themselves? My partner is nice and understanding but this is for me..

    When did your fatigue stop?

I wondered the same thing! I felt the most energy after I started getting Protein...but I will admit at 24 days out I hit pockets of tired out of the blue. It's not unusual for me to start out strong inthe morning and go the day and it is also not unusual for me to have a tired day where I can take a nap at the drop of the hat, go to sleep at 8:30 and sleep through. I take the energy as it comes and respect when it is time to rest. Between all of us...I'm starting to really like the naps...

    It's surgery day!

Hey- somehow I missed your initial post but Congratulations! It gets better from here!
  9. So nice reading all these responses first thing in the morning! Thank you all. As usual you all are just what the doctor ordered.
  10. I keep questioning myself. I have seen these threads and I understand the doubt. I am sticking to the plan- drinking lots of Water, dialed back my walking to 3 days a week once I realized that more than that just now may have been partly responsible for a stall- - and eating on plan. I expected to lose more early on (I'm 23 days out and about 15 pounds down) and I know everyone is different. I keep telling myself that if I do as I'm told the weight will come off...but I am besieged by all the past dieting attempts when I lost some and stalled or lost some but couldn't keep it off. I catch myself thinking like this and say "I know it has to come off, does't it?" I have a small sleeve where my stomach used to be...I made the mistake of eating too much cottage cheese once but too much equals 2 spoonfuls more of something that is 90calories for a half a cup and I can't even eat a half a cup. So it has to come off...right? The 30 pound mark and 50 pound mark and 100 pound marks seem so far away. I can see the people in my life who know looking at me and not seeing anything yet. I tell myself slow and steady wins the race..but there are times like this moment where I start wondering...and only really because of my failures before. All I can do is keep doing and laugh at these nuerotic moments...but it'd be nice to know I'm not the only one who has been there.

Ok- that's it...I'm going to market a tube of lacy fabric to slip over the torso...giggle
  12. Sleeved on the 21st and on Puree for another week. I like cottage cheese, added SF pistachio pudding to my vanilla shake and enjoyed it, made an acorn squash puree (roasted acorn squash, a little unsweetened almond milk and Truvia brown sugar blend) I was going to try a pureed mushroom Soup and my favorite is grits. My Nut asked me what I mix with them and I said I used to use butter- although she said light butter will be okay I also tried melting in a light laughing cow wedge which was tasty but made it heavier.

@@libbyyum I haven't been comfortable of confident in heels for years but my boss and best friend steered me toward them. We went to DSW and I saw a pair of heels I loved. When I told her that although I could walk a few steps in the store I did not see myself wearing them to work. She suggested I check out the wedges...so I did. I found the Born Wedges to be comfortable and sturdy and branched out from there. I'm still not going to run in them but I do wear them regularly for my work day and I feel a little sexier in them Following that trip she told me we could go to lunch anywhere I wanted to and I told her i wanted to go to DSW-lol. I bought the high heels i loved the first day for myself and they are still in my closet waiting.

I am all ears on this thread! VS among a few others...and shoes. I find the more weight I lose I am heading back towards wedges. They are great summertime shoes...and I love getting pedis. I wonder if I'll ever wear heel heels again? Something to think about. VS and heels
  16. I love the Premier Protein. I found 4 packs at Walmart. I have mixed the vanilla with 2 Tbs of sugar free pistachio pudding mix and it was great. I also enjoy the strawberry and the chocolate. I received unjury vanilla powder yesterday which is 21g of protein per scoop...Thought I may try using a scoop and a half in one smoothie but we'll see. I haven't tried the Isopure yet. Where can I find them?
  17. I posted a broth recipe which is basically the clear broth you get before Japanese Hibachi...I think it's under recipes. Or you can Google. It's a combo or chicjen, beef, carrots, onions. I also added some mushrooms. I just left out the added slices and the fried onions that would be added after. I found it very good!

    Alternative to NSAIDS?

I was told the same thing- you may want to check with your doc but I was told Tylenol only or extra strength Tylenol unless instructed by a doctor. However, I have had very few aches and pains and I expect the healthier I get the less things will hurt On a side note- When I got the endoscopy before surgery, that doctor told me that when taking advil etc. I was supposed to have been taking an antacid with them...this is pre-surgery for anyone- I had no idea! I am beginning to think that I really took the health of my stomach for granted. So- fwiw- if you are ever instructed after this to take something other then Tyleonol you may also want to ask about taking an antacid with it.

    Required Vitamins

I'm taking Flintstone Vitamins because they have Iron in them and Citracal Gummy Calcium with Vitamin D in them. I'm starting to think I am the only person whose doctor did not tell them to take B12?? lol
  21. I am 18 days post op and maybe I've been pushing myself too hard? I went back to work the following week only part time- I went in late, took it easy and left when I was tired. This past week was full time but I still left a little early three days. I get home a little after four and tend to nap for a little but now. Today, Saturday, after a full night's sleep I woke up raring to go- chose a place to take a nice walk today- and as I woke more I decided maybe today will be chore day and I will explore tomorrow. I then got up, sorted some clothes to see what fits and doesn't, bagged up some laundry, put the dishes away, ate some Breakfast and now I find myself tired. I have settled into a comfy spot and feel ready to go back to sleep. I'm not complaining- it's a process- but I'm kind of surprised by it. Anyone run into something similar?
  22. The scale froze at 256.6 for well over a week. The stall may have broken naturally but once I started looking for an answer I came across a couple things that made sense. I increased my Water from 60 to about 90 ounces- water is apparently aids weightloss for various reasons- but in any event- I increased it. I varied my carb and calories- I've been a one trick pony- 2 Protein shakes and 1 small meal a day- usually cottage cheese. I changed this up to include grits with laughing cow cheese (carbs), Soup (pureed) and applesauce. I got some carbs in there because I saw references to the body needing some carbs and the shakes provide 5 carbs a peice so allowing myself 20 or so carbs wasn't going to hurt anything. I alternated for the space of 3 days- higher carb lower carb. I broke everything I ate into halves and ate every 2 hours. Instead of working to get the shakes in all at once I drank a half shake, then two hours later I had another half shake and I basically ate a little something every 2-3 hours. I don't know how I forgot this from Medifast but I did. It keeps the metabolism going. I varied my exercise- I was asked to do 30-45 minutes 3x a week by the doc but I chose to walk almost every day. So Monday, Wednesday, Friday would be my harder walks including uphills and the other days were flatter walks with more sniffing time for my dog. I have read that that I may be premature in attempting to exercise so much- even though it feels great- because I may be causing a calorie deficit in doing so that causes my body to hang onto every calorie it can like a kid with their hand caught in the cookie jar. (auditory Sam Kinison yell- NOoooo!) So I have dialed back how often and how much for the last 3 days as well. Yesterday the scale dipped down to 255.4 and today it's 254. So this may all be simplistic and at the moment is only supported by what I assessed myself above. But for what it's worth- I am hoping that shaking things up keeps me out of a rut.

Can you MAKE me feel worse?

@@CanyonBaby I have read this thread and I am also praying. I think the support here, even within this thread is amazing, so many wonderful people. Stay strong and I am now listening for good news along with everyone else. Hugs
  24. @@wascott ...good thing to wonder...so I did some Googling and came up with this: How Many Carbs Do I Need to Spare Protein Loss? Early research into the topic of starvation and low-carbohydrate dieting found that as few as 15 grams of carbohydrates per day can limit nitrogen loss in the body. And raising carbohydrate intake to 50 grams per day severely limits the need for the body to use amino acids for gluoconeogenesis (which is why I suggested setting daily carbs on the low-carb days of The Ultimate Diet 2.0 at 50 grams). This occurs via at least two mechanisms: The increased carb intake maintains blood glucose and insulin at a higher level (inhibiting cortisol release). The carbohydrate provides glucose for the brain, limiting the need to break down body protein. Basically, in the context of dieting, dieters can either jack up dietary protein to cover the increased carbohydrate requirements of dieting or simply eat slightly more carbohydrates to provide them directly. Both have the same end-result. 15-50 grams per day limits the body’s need to break down protein and will allow protein requirements to be set lower than a diet providing essentially zero carbohydrates per day. It was at this web address: http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/nutrition/how-many-carbohydrates-do-you-need.html/ Of course, this is only one source...But I'm feeling pretty good about the carb range listed here. I know when I was on Medifast which prompted a light ketosis required carbs to be under 100 per day and mine were often closer to 80. I may not have been able to stick to Medifast for long enough to keep the weight off, but I did lose weight and it really has set me up with some good habits for success with this. I hope the Atkins is doing the same for you.
