  1. Just curious. Is your Doctor planning on fixing the port? what will happen if you aren't in town when this happens?
  2. , not sure if your using sarcasm and agreeing with me or just being patronizing.
  3. Not all hybrids are mini coop wanna be's.... Check these hybrid/electric cars out:
  4. Glad to hear they are better with waste now but I have another problem with them if you don't mind me asking. The stuff that is produced and "recycled" to help curb waste does in fact make radioactive material that could be put in weapons correct? Now, this is fine if WE have regualtions here. But contrary to what alot of americans believe their are other people in the world and could we trust them to be just as sincere with their waste. Doesn't matter how green america is if the rest of the world is still polluting.
  5. I find this funny, cause this is exactly how health insurance works. Everyone pays into health insurance and only some have to use it. I could pay thousands of dollars in my lifetime on health insurance and never use it once. The only difference between the two is one is government ran and the other is privately ran.
  6. To me this isn't a walfare issue or a "entitlement" issue. People who are on medicare or medicaid have it for medical needs. How many of us had to go through their insurance and prove that it is a medical "need" in order to get covered? Well whether you like it or not medicare and medicaid is a type of health insurance so if YOU get covered for a medical neccessity, why can't they? If you tell them they don't need it then your insurance shouldn't have covered it either. On a side note, I don't like the current entitlement programs our government has.
  7. Waste! There is waste from nulcear plants. Here's some fact about nuclear waste: Sorry I don't have my computer with me so I had to quote these from a greeny site, but they are legit numbers. The problem is getting rid of the waste that lasts 100,000 to 500,000 years. The more plants we put in the more we will have to think of places to put it. Which will eventually lead us to dump the waste outside our borders, which would in turn making us dependent on other countries for our energy needs. Thats the reason I said short term. If we can knock the waste down, we will again have to find another alternative. I also understand this information is a bit dated and if you couldenlighten me as to how much the plants now account for in waste. I do know there is still some.
  8. I know he is old news. But 2 things just get to me with his demonetization of the lap band. These things are nothing against the MGB procedure but the surgeon who "promotes" it. 1. This is from a lapbander who wants a revision from their clos.net site Its obvious this person got the band in, maybe got one fill and complained she gained all her pre and post op surgical weight loss and only went in for a fill 2 times over 2 years? Yea, thats a great example of a failed lap band. 2. He has a video of two people that had their bands removed and going into a MGB. Sure these people had problems but half their story didn't make sense. The video is only half the story. If you watch the video or don't, just look at Dr. Rutledge's comments from jsut 3 months ago. He is actually citing LabBandTalk.com forum polls at evidence. A DOCTOR SHOWING FORUM POLLS AS EVIDENCE HIS PROCEDURE IS BETTER? IS HE INSANE? HE SHOULD BE DISBANDED, DISBARRED, OR WHATEVER THEY DO TO DOCTORS WHO BEHAVE SO IRRATIONALLY. Here is the you tube video: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBURPv9zS6U&feature=related]YouTube - Two Failed Lapband Patients Converted to the MGB[/ame]
  9. Thought the same thing here. Not many make six figures here. Especially spouses of people who got laid off in the automotive industry. Course its hard and scary for him because like most manufacturing plants, they are leaving and the ones that do stay renegotiated lower salaries for new employees. I know most people at GM here in Michigan are making around $26 dollars. A new employee use to be able to make close to the same thing but now new employees are making $14 an hour. Almost half what they use to get. The world economy is here and the USA has to change its economy to keep up. Unfortunately most politicians won't tell you that means longer hours, less regulations, and lower pay for all manufacturing jobs. We can't force other countries to pay their workers more. Your husband will have to take the lesser of two evils. Going back to school and train for a better job or take the same job somewhere else for alot less pay. It sucks I know, but apparently no one is going to change this situation.
  10. So we can only change topics when it suits you or helps your case? Because that Al Gore discussion was misleading and has nothing to do with anything. You posting that proves that your no better then the talking heads on tv and radio that don't want to talk about issues but rather spew slanted garbage.
  11. As for Nuclear plant ins US. I use to be for them. And I still am kinda. At least for the short term. However considering the cost to get one operated the lasting effects a nuclear plant may not be a good "short term" solution. People against nuclear plants have a legitimate gripe. Nuclear power plants in the distant future will either have to evolve. Although nuclear plants are cleaner the fossil fuel plants the effects on the planet and the waste it creates have far longer effect. So again, down the road Nuclear power plant will become just as much of a problem, if not worse then what environmental problems we have today. The only reason I would support nuclear power plants is IF they would replace our dependents on foreign oil.
  12. Um, how is story about Al Gore not being green, even remotely an issue with global warming? Looks like your trying to prove global warming is a sham by pointing out how un-green Al Gores house is. Just doesn't make sense. Is he a hypocrite? Some people think so. I don't. But whether or not that is true has no bearing on the science behind the global warming debate. We digressed to Bible or Abortion because that is about as off topic is this one. You pointed out hypocrisy of Al Gore so they pointed out the hypocrisy with the religious right on abortions, environment, death penalty, and wars. All because of the abortion issue, the conservatives sucked all the religious people into their party. Now the poor right has to defend every aspect of conservatism even if it goes against their religion.
  13. The new "AP" bands were avaiable July of 07. However up until end of 2007 mostly only the certified training surgeons were using them. I wouldn't make too muhc out of the new size. The big reason why the new ones require more liquid is becuase the "AP" band's balloon goes all the way around the stomach all 360 degrees. Where as previous bands only went around 270-310 degrees around leaving a flat spot where the buckle was. Here was a nice post on OH about the benefits of the new band though:
  14. This makes me a sad panda, I have BCBS and my doctor hasn't gave Hurley all the stuff they need to hand in my packet. I keep calling the office and they say the doctor has my files and he is working on it. This means I might have to wait for another 5 weeks? Yikes! :huh2:
  15. Getting banded by Farhan. I haven't been to any support groups so I didn't try to attend the Ball. Maybe next year! Was is worth going to?:huh2: And what made it difficult to go, if you don't mind me asking.
  16. Let me tell you something. Before I went to see the shrink I thought it would be a bunch of BS. I never seenw a shrink before and really didn't believe in them. During most of my session, I was right. Everything he told me I already knew or was just a no brainer for me. But the minute he brought this point up, I sat there and imagined what I would be like after surgery and it was so true. We get so mixed up in something that makes our own lives better that we forget no one else is experiencing it except through you. Not saying you should or shouldn't tell people in your life. But for Gods sake keep it to a minimum. I work with, play with, and live on computers. Yet, I don't talk to my family about it all day. I save that for my online friends or co workers. Just like I will save all my hardcore WLS questions and gripes and goals online here and in support groups.
  17. Yes, but two months is not "Recent" to anyone. Two months of hearing "tenants destroying my house" or "son got held back" and I would tell that person to STFU even if it is family. Yes, WLS is an ongoing battle but it was a choice of the person to have it and I don't need to hear about it every day. My other point was the fact that my RNY sister told everyone after my other sister's out burst that she felt she wasn't talking about it that much. However, every conversations with her would end up one way or another about her WLS. She had no idea how annoying it was, which is the reason I said take a look at what YOU are doing before, jumping on the "my sister is jealous" band wagon. My WLS psychiatrist mentioned I had listed alot of family and friends as my support structure at home. He then went on to ask if I went to any support meetings yet and i told him "no, I have plenty of family thats been through this already and they are supportive". He then went onto say that I should considered that list cut at least in half. Because even the closest people to you will not want to listen to your WLS story all the time after a few months. He said thats why support gorups are important. To get support from a place that will consistently listen and help you no matter how long.
  18. I'm sure if she pressed him he would say how much. But as for Doctors not saying how much they put in? Maybe thats so patients will tell them how they are eating and what they feel rather then trying to tell the doctor how many cc's they "should" put in. Like in my job. I am a network administrator. And my biggest pet peeve is when someone calls and tells me what they want me to come and do to fix their problem rather then explaining WHAT their problem is and letting me decide (the expert) how to deal with it.
  19. Wow, the original post was a topic about how to be green? I thought it was a smear article about Al Gore. And FYI, going green would be even more cost efficient IF we let the market decide rather then oil execs and congressmen. For all the conservatives out there screaming socialism when someone talks about going green, if the Free Market was in effect we couldn't afford NOT to lower energy use.
  20. *Disclaimer: I am Obese right now but have been skinny for a few years. For people who say its appalling the way the general public treats obese people is wrong. It isn't the commercials on TV, it isn't what people are taught in schools. It's all in the genes. People are drawn and try to surround themselves with healthy people. All those cartoons and stories we were shown and read to as a child always taught us what? To 'not judge a book by its cover". But deep down our basic instincts tell us other wise. Men for instance. MOST men who are in a relationship and are sexually active with their partner, STILL feel compelled to check other women out when they walk by. Now, I know alot of you will say "my man doesn't do that". But that doesn't prove anything. Cause even if your man doesn't check other women out, the point is deep down he wants to and had to make a concious effort not to. Yes, nice, courteous, men will not check other women out when and even when not, out with their partners. Doesn't mean the urge is not there. It's not only men that have issues. Money and power have the same effects on women. When I was skinny, at my job I was just out of college and wasn't making much money. I was skinny but no women would approach me at work. I gained about 50 pounds that year and then got a promotion into upper management position. Even though I was overweight women started to flirt with me. Pinching my butt, acting all silly with me, to the point they were obviously wanting me to ask them out. Am i saying all men based their entire social circle on looks? NO. Am I saying all women base their social circle on power and wealth? NO. However, media, schooling, and other influential parts of our society have developed around our basic instincts. For years we saw movies, TV shows, and commercials where women fell for men in suits and tuxes, or always been quoted saying "I love a man in a uniform". This isn't by accident. Suits and tuxes project wealth/power, where "uniforms" projected power/command. All basic needs for women seeking a family with a man who is healthy and able to provide. Also, all those moves and commercials about men smacking into a pole after staring at a hot women walking by in a bikini or "hot outfit". The hottest outfits out there accentuate the breasts, tight mid section, and hips. All these are important aspects for a man because it shows health and ability to carry their child. I know relationships don't work out this way all the time. Over our basic instincts are layers of social influences that stray us away. However, this almost "subconscious" shift in attitude people have towards you is nothing that should be demonized, but celebrated. The presence of these basic instincts is what keeps pressure on our society to promote health and the longevity of the human race. For billions of years species lived on with one basic premise: "survival of the fittest". We are the first species/social entity to stray from this premise. Think of the attitude changes of people a "reminder" that "survival of the fittest" pertains to us as well.
  21. Has any of you who said you have problems with your sisters maybe think it was you? I haven't gone through the banding yet, but my sister got an RNY done. She brag about it all the time. Most of the family didn't care but a few deep down did. Finally my other sister told her that she was fed up hearing about it and told her to "tone it down". Reason I say this is cause, yes the family is trying to be supportive so they deal with the up's and doewn's of a post op person, however it does get anoyying after abit. Now I ain't saying the OP is this way or anyone else here in this thread, but you all may want to take a closer look at what your doing instead of just your family. After this outburst, my family talked with the post op sister and told her to "tone it down" and didn't say anything to the disgusted sister. I think you shouldn't talk about it at all with her. give it some time and I am sure she will bring it up on her terms. Remember, it's YOU that is getting skinnier, getting healthier, and improving your life. Let me put it this way. How annoying would it be if a family memeber won the lotto. After winning the lotto they put all the money in a bank and only spent it on themselves, yet everyone in the family had to here how they won the lotto and how they are spending the money ALL THE TIME.
  22. Yes I did, that original post is just as much BS then as it is today. Yes, all news radio and TV still report stories LIKE that.
  23. On the site they compare the realize band to the lap band. They are complaining less complications and less "do overs". They also claiming higher % of weight loss, but not sure why that would be. You can find it here: Compare The Realize Band System to Lap-Band - REALIZEBand.com
  24. It's not the fact I love the guy. I have problems with him too. And again the frustration isn't with likeing Al Gore or not, or if you believe in global warming or not. The frustration is whether i turn the TV to Fox news or MSNBC and when I turn the radio on Shawn Hannity or Air America nothing changes. I have to weed through all the BS stories like this house comparison, or Gore's financials, or Dick Cheney and Haliburton. I have to weed through those only to find out half of the stories ain't true. Then everytime I argue with someone about something important they have to bring up these same stories and have to get by all that crap first just to get to the real issue. Again, its the same on both sides. The other thread you stated yourself eloquently and didn't resort to petty misinterpreted information. If you stayed away from that and kept to the facts I woul be again another listener to the other side. You will find not only me but alot more from "the other side" who will seek your audience rather then flame you, if you stayed away from this rubbish.
