    65 and over

Hi! I think this is my first post on BariatricPal. I am 63. My starting weight was 250 lbs and I am 5ft3. After 3 months of my insurance company's required 6 months medically supervised diet, I have lost 16 pounds! I use MyFitnessPal to track everything I eat and to keep track of the protein/fat/carb ratio. My goal is to have the sleeve surgery. I'm a bit concerned that I have a lot of adhesions which could result in needing an open surgery. I am willing to take that risk. More troublesome is that mu upper endoscopes have revealed a hiatal hernia in the past. So I'm curious to learn what my new endoscopy, next month, will reveal. We live in Florida but travel in our motor home in the summer. Twice, am actually flying down to FL for my monthly weigh-in and checkups. In past summers I gained weight while traveling so I am tickled that I'm disciplined, this year. I'm glad for the traveling fun (and grandchild visits) that are making time go by fast as I wait for my receiving the surgery. So that's my story, so far
  2. I am 3 wks into a 6 month required diet. No way will I lose enough to go below 40BMI plus I have severe sleep apnea. That said, I do think your BMI, at the time the insurance company, is what they use to make the decision. What I don't know is how they use the dieting success or failure in their decision. So far, I'm doing well keeping to the 1500 calorie and the exercise requirement. Not doing well drinking the 64 oz per day. Down 6lbs so far. I use MyFitnessPal app to track my eating and exercise. I can print the results, from it, to show the nutritionist. Ellyn

    Previous surgeries

I spoke to the Nurse Practitioner at my program who had spoken to the surgeon. His response was that it may be that I will need an open procedure but otherwise he doesn't see my mesh or previous surgeries as an obstacle to the VSG. However, I guess that I won't know, for sure, until he looks inside. <sigh>

    Previous surgeries

Oh dear -I'm two weeks into the 6 month supervised diet and I have have had those exact surgeries plus several other. The bariatric program I'm using dihodn't think it would be a problem but they were going to check with the surgeon. I know that I may have to have an open sleeve operation but I don't know what I will do if I can't have the surgery. I have a call in now to learn if the program's nurse has talked to the surgeon about my case.
  5. I am now on day 16 of the six month diet required by my insurance company. Anybody have any experience to share from your 6 mo. diet?
