  1. My surgery center had me on clear liquids for day 1-3 after surgery. Then I went to pureed foods for day 3-7. Then when I saw the physician's assistant for my one week post-op he told me I could go onto soft foods day 9 if I felt I was ready. I didn't I waited until day 11 to try some soft foods. So I'm suppose to be on soft foods Week 3 to Week 7 and then Week 8 and Beyond regular food adding in slowly. I haven't had any problem with any of the soft foods I've had. Just chew chew chew chew as much as possible! I also did a two week liquid only diet.

    Tiny pouch?

Your stomach is swollen from surgery. It isn't easy at first to sip the liquids because of that feeling. I am 24 days out and I am able to drink most of the day without any problem. Cold Water hurts my pouch and I can't seem to take pills very well because they catch in my throat but otherwise my stomach is handling everything really well. Don't overdo it. Take maybe 1oz sip every 10-15 minutes. You won't get as much liquid and Protein down. I went back to the hospital two days later with a fever of 101.4 and dehydrated. It gets much better though once the swelling inside goes down!! Stick to your plan your surgery center wants you to do. I lived off sugar free popsicles! They were so much easy to get down than even water.
  3. I can eat alot for being a little over two weeks out (17 days). I am eating pickled herring in wine sauce - which btw is amazing. eggs, cheese, deli meat, etc but I hve to stop after 4-5 bites. I make myself stop because even though I'm not full I just feel I have to start making a habit of control. I also am tracking food and stuff on my fitness pal and I have had around 350 calories today and walked 1.5 miles. O.o it's really crazy but it's up to me to make the changes and push away the food even though I'm not done.
  4. I started Week 3 on Wed. My surgery was 4/22! I'm eating deli chicken meat, cheese, pickles, carrots, oatmeal/cream of wheat, eggs, pickled herring in wine sauce (my favorite)!! and tonight is chicken and cheese enchilada light soup. I can only eat about 4-5 bites of food at a time and I have to chew it up super well but most things are going down great. Unfortunately this soup isn't going down well. swallowed some chicken and little piece of green pepper in the soup and now i'm scared it's gonna hurt alot. Uff. Anyways most everything is going well! Only problem I had was busted a hematoma under an incision a week ago so that is healing slower than the rest of my incisions.

    Incision question

I have six incisions and the far left one is the one where the drain port was and also the one where the bigger equipment went in. It hurts the worst. Waking up and sitting up and moving is the most painful time of the day. I can't stand up straight either. I'm 5 days post-op. I also have a weird pain in what it feels like is my kidney on that side. My husband said I am bruised on my back too so I'm not sure where that came from. I am still taking the liquid pain killer every 4 hours. I gotta stay ahead of the pain. Man it hurts.
  6. I take my liquid hydrocodone every four hours. 10 units sometimes 15 if the pain is bad. I'm 5 days post op and I know EXACTLY how you feel. i've had those thoughts too like "what have I done/" "i should have just stayed fat," etc. But you know it will get better. I feel better today even though the pain is still there. Especially when I first move after sleeping. I have not had one single good night's sleep since last week. It all is in 4 hours spurt. I get tired but the pain medication doesn't always help me sleep. Just stay on top of the pain and try to get as much Fluid as you can in. The heating pad has done wonders on my back and that somehow comforts me when i'm trying to sit even though it's my tummy that hurts alot. The pain is normal. You just had a major abdominal surgery. They cut and pulled and moved and dug things into your abdominal cavity and there is no way that you wouldn't have some type of post-op pain. Don't hesitate to call the surgeon either. I went back to ER friday night with a temperature even though nothing was wrong they found out (thank goodness!) and I've been so nauseated and dry-heaving all weekend. They called in some zofron for me! I believe it definitely will get better!
  7. I had a drain tube and catheter they put in during surgery. I had no feeding tube although they did give me ice chips, sf popsicles and chicken broth at the hospital. They pulled out my cath to make sure I could pee some. Also the drain port they pulled out and it was very painless for them to pull it out. They stapled it shut but it was gauze and bandage on it not just staples and sticky tape like the others. It is also the site of my most painful pre-opo pain which unfortunately I still have. Everyone is different however!
  8. I had surgery 04/22 and I'm still waking up in pain from the left side incisions on my RnY that were used for the big instruments and was the main port site. They told me it would probably be more sore but it's caused the most of my pain. I am still having to take liquid hydrocodone to deal with the pain. I don't know how much fluids I'm getting. Water feels like it makes me nauseated. They had to call in a script for zofron because I've been nauseas and dry-heaving all weekend. It will get better. i believe It will get better and feel better but yes this is major surgery and they cut and snip and moved and jostled around inside your body cavity. I can't stand up straight either and I'm like Kimberly, there is no way I could have just gone to work 5 days after surgery. I gained weight from the swelling and retaining water and have yet to lose that weight. I also have not released much gas either. Keep up the faith! It will be great ^^

    Very sore throat?

My throat was sore too for days after the surgery. I was only in hospital about 24 hours total. But my throat felt like it used to when I had swollen tonsils.and was sick. it took about 4 days for it to go away. I'm glad to hear you feel better!

    Bypass process

I started in October 2014 and will be having surgery April 2015. So roughly six months. I had only 3 months of the supervised diet but ended up with 3 sessions with psych doctor and the EGD, education class was all done by February. But that last meeting with the psych doctor wasn't until 2nd week of March and they scheduled me for the surgery on March 13 for the April 22 date. So it took awhile but I was ok with that. To be honest I wasn't 100% on board with the whole process due to fear and lack of trust but I've overcome alot of my hesitations. Almost game day! Two week liquid diet and hopefully my liver shrinks enough for the surgery. Good Luck!

    Help liquid diet

Actually my surgery is on the 22nd! I've only lost 4 pounds in the 6 day liquid diet so far but I feel less bloated! Maybe it's the popsicles I don't know but the nutritionist said I could have as many as I wanted. I double checked to make sure! LOL. Good Luck everyone! Today has been REALLY REALLY tough. I'm cranky and irritated really easily because I want to eat. It's not that I'm hungry just the smell of food from outside and my husband cooking himself something is like teasing me! One week to go.

    Help liquid diet

My husband got skim milk today which is in the binder to use with shakes. The Bariatric Advantage really is tasty! He took back all the blue bell sf popsicles due to a recall for bluebell and I just wasn't comfortable even though the popsicles weren't recalled. We got Popsicles brand but I'm wondering if it's not raising my blood sugar that or the Protein shakes or both. My sugar just now was 196 and it was 103 last night and 129 this morning after eating nothing. It will be truly spectacular if I can get off the insulin after the surgery. I'm hoping. Good luck to those of you with surgery tomorrow!! I'm 9 days away omg

    Protein Powder

i'm using the Bariatric Advantage vanilla and choclate/peanut butter powder shakes. The bariatric center sells them so just decided to stick with what they have in office. I like them. They taste better than GNC lean. I also loved the atkins shakes but they aren't allowed.

    Help liquid diet

I am on Day 4 going on Day 5 of my two week liquid diet. Surgery is April 22. I chew SF gum furiously to help me get through the bad times. I was weighed on Tues at 349 and on Friday I was 345. It's probably a few pounds less now. I just have to pee so much!! I don't mind the Protein drinks as I am never hungry. I wasn't ever hungry before surgery and I lost the ability to tell when I was full until I was overfull. I think all my hunger has been head hunger and craving to eat certain things (bad things of course). I think I'm eating too many SF popsicles a day though. I think I had 10 today. Gonna have to check with the surgery center again. Also not sure if almond milk with shake is ok; the diet in the binder said 8 oz skim milk. I love almond milk however. Good luck all!

    April surgeries

    Mine is April 22, 2015!
  16. I am having gastric bypass on April 22! I have a two week liquid diet and it's 3 - 4 Protein shakes a day. SF popsicles, SF Jello, broth and water/regular unsweet tea. I'm almost done with day 4. It's not easy. I'm eating too many sf popsicles I think. I had a small glass of V8 spicy juice on day 2 but the bariatric center told me I couldn't have it. Now I'm worried i'm eating too many popsicles. I also have used almond milk for some of my shakes but I need to ask about that too. Good Luck!! I'm both nervous and excited too!!
