  1. amoreno - Which state do you live in? I live in Indiana. Just made my July and August clinic appointments. The clinic should be able to submit everything to insurance after my August appointment and I am told I could have a surgery date a few weeks after that. I am so excited and can't wait to be more active. I had my knees injected with steroid on Tuesday and that has really helped me move a lot quicker! I need partial knee replacements. I am going to wait and see how I am doing with less weight to carry around. I bet you are looking forward to school being out for the summer!!
  2. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in December. I hate wearing my CPAP...I am a nurse so I know the risks if I don't. I decided that my joints are killing me, I want to get rid of my CPAP and be healthy and active as I head towards retirement in 12 years. I work as a pain service nurse based in surgery. There are 5 staff members that have had a VSG, all are enjoying amazing health with no regrets! I decided that before I ended up with diabetes or high blood pressure I better make a serious change!
  3. Welcome older one!! I am 54! I will finish my 6 month pre op required diet and exercise in August and I hoping to be sleeved in August!! I've lost 20#. BMI is 40.9. I am glad to meet some people my age as it seems like there are a lot of 20 and 30 year ages. Congrats on your decision and I look forward to sharing your success!!
  4. Hi! There are other people alive in Indiana! Lol I am in month 3/6 of my MD supervised diet. I've lost 18# since the first of the year and am hoping to be sleeved in late August, early September. Where are you at in your WLS journey?
  5. Ouch, 12 months is a long time! I won't complain about 2/6 completed. I am keeping busy with diet and exercise, have read a couple books and have done a good bit of research. Several people who have has VSG in my department at work ( I am a nurse and work in a hospital), have brought me various protein bars and shakes to try out. It is really nice to see their progress and have their support. I meet with the NP May 13th. I'll be at the halfway point!!
  6. Does anyone else have a long waiting period? I have a 6 month diet and exercise requirement for meritain insurance. It feels like it is just dragging by a a snails pace. I started March 1st so the earliest my surgery will be is in September. Ugh! I am encouraged reading about others journeys and can't wait to be on the post op side!
  7. I'm sorry to hear about your friends reaction. It sounds like she needs some education and that she is also worried or afraid. My sister, who is heavier than I am, reacted in a similar way. She said" well at least you have 6 months to change your mind" ( in reference to the pre op diet, waiting period). I did my best to educate her and told her that WLS is my choice and a tool to reach and maintain my goals! I am fortunate that the rest of my family is supportive as well as my friends and co workers. Does your surgeon have a support group? My hospital has a group that meets every month. It really helps to talk to others and hear about their journey. I am in my second pre op month and should be able to be sleeved in September! You can do this and you have a big group of friends here to cheer you on!!
  8. My final straw- I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I can't stand the CPAP. I had been thinking about gastric sleeve surgery for over a year. I started my 6 month pre op diet/ exercise program that is required by my insurance in March. I should be able to have my surgery in September. I'm 54 and ready to be healthy and active. My surgeon believes my sleep apnea will resolve once I get to a normal BMI. I am at 42 right now. I am so excited and look forward to sharing my journey!
