    what does the 3 month plan entail? I had no plan until now....which is green salad/ veg and Protein shakes. On day 4 now & craving chocolate.
    I have been working on Portion Control, reducing soda and carb intake, increasing Protein and getting at least 15 min of exercise 5 days per week.

    going to the gym.

    2. FIRMING AFTER 50 (Joel Harper) Full body workout – no equipment
    Three levels of effort; He does the advanced level.
    A pretty young thing does the medium level.
    His own mother does the modified level.

    favorites and I use it often.
    3. FUNCERCISE RESISTANCE BANDS (with “Sunshine”)
    Twenty-five simple and easy to do resistance band exercises.
    CARDIO
    1. WALK YOUR BELLY FLAT (Leslie Sansone)
    This is a calorie burner. Equivalent of three miles done in “one-mile” units that take about twelve minutes each to complete.
    Can be done outside or even in the house or standing in place if you
    don’t have much room to workout.
    (I have only been able to get to one and a half, but my goal is to make it through all three units.) It is still one of my favorites that I use frequently.
    2. WHOLE BODY RESISTANCE (former pro wrestler Diamond Dallas Page)
    Intense Yoga that won’t compromise your masculinity. Remember he was a champion pro wrestler and used this method for his own training.
    He demonstrates modifications that make it usable for everyone.

    I just tried it for the first time today (1/17/2016) and attempted the first and easiest routine in the set, and couldn’t keep up. It is for 25 minutes and I fizzled out at 7 minutes. I like Shaun T’s approach and actually had fun for those seven minutes, so I will consider this to be my personal mountain to climb. I am not giving up.     I had Mr. Gym’s COUCH POTATO exercise video, but was not impressed.
    This one got thrown out.
    I used to have Billy Blanks Tai Bo, but my doctor said it was too much impact on my arthritic joints. However, it is an intense way to exercise and learn self-defense at the same time.
    If you can’t afford to buy videos, look online. There are so many on You Tube for free that I can’t even count that high.

    Among other things, you are in the middle of a "food funeral". I am two years out now, and drink all the Water I want (about 100-120 ounces a day). The only difference is that I just don't drink it all at one time. I can drink a 10 ounce bottle of Water every 15 minutes if I wanted to. I can eat anything I want, but what I want has changed. And...I don't eat enough to choke a horse, like I used to. What surprises me how little food the human body needs to survive.

    You have to get over some of this mentality. I used to go to the gym religiously even at 318 pounds. No one cares that you are there.. no one is judging you.. I found my best friends through the gym and we encourage each other. I run outside. I bike outside.. You can work out at home too, but I find myself more motivated with fit friends.

    I agree with most of the above post. I used the pain meds after the sleeve for maybe 24 hours. I remember after both C-sections I had the meds for a couple more days. So much easier to get out of bed and walk after the sleeve also.

    my sleeve was MUCH easier than either of my C sections. the soreness in my stomach the first couple of days reminded me of my C sections, but it was more soreness than pain. i really had no pain with the sleeve. as a matter of fact, the sleeve was the easiest surgery i have had.

    Thanks everyone! I have lots to look up. Hopefully I will find some that work for me. My kids and I have been making a game of exercising together so that is keeping me going. My youngest has even been begging me to exercise with her because she thinks it is fun. I just gotta keep the momentum going.

    I've fought my weight since I was seven years old. Was bullied and called "marshmellow" in grade school because of my weight. As an adult I've gone up and down so many times I can't count. Diets seem to work, but then they don't and the weight always comes back with more. Two years ago I started developing all the illnesses associated with obesity. I had high-blood pressure, high chloresterol and sleep apnea. My Dr failed to diagnose that I had diabetes for over a year, even though he told me I had high blood suger but did not tell me to get blood tests. I became sicker and sicker until a friend at work who is a volunteer with ADA told me my symptoms indicated I had diabetes and I made an appointment that day to go back to my Dr. He said, I told you last year that your blood sugar was very high, why didn't you get blood tests. I flipped out and said, BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T PERSCRIBE IT. My blood count at that time was close to 600 and I found my A1A was close to 15. I also had neuropathy, my skin was so dry and cuts were slow to heal. I also knew something was wrong because I was unexplecably losing weight without trying. That was a first for me.
    I found a Endocrinologist who took me in immediately and said I was lucky I didn't go into a coma and didn't damage my kidneys. I went on 60mg of insulin daily plus other meds. After several months of trying to control my type 2 diabetes, my Endocrinologist and I talked about weight loss surgery. I had been looking into it online. He suggested RNY bypass because in his opinion the long-term success is greater.
    I had consults with a couple of Drs that did lap-bands and sleeves and they said I could pick one, but didn't really give me many reasons other than the lap-band is adjustable to go with one or the other.
    I live in Phoenix, AZ and I found Dr Kurt Sprunger at the Phoenix Bariatric Center, that only does bypass surgery and he said that he stopped doing the other procedures because of long-term results. For my insurance to cover my procedure, there were several other Drs and a dietician I had to see.
    After all the hoops and finally having to get my primary physicians approval for the procedure. He was initially against weight loss surgery and I reminded him of how he failed to diagnose my diabetes the year before and that he is still my Dr, and still a Dr, he signed the consent.
    I had my surgery on July 28, 2015 at St Luke's Hospital in Phoenix. I was skeptical about the hospital, as I had never heard of it and it wasn't in the best part of town. After going to the hospital a week before the surgery put my mind to rest as the hospital was nice and updated and everyone was very attentive and friendly. The morning of my surgery, i went in at 6:30am, was admitted, and went into a pre-op area where I put on a gown and layed down. I don't remember anything after that until I was in my room at 3pm and was told I had several phone conversations on my cell prior to that. I don't even know how I got my cell after surgery.
    I will admit that after surgery it only hurt if I moved. I was up and walking that afternoon. Everyone at the hospital was fantastic. I was treated like a prince. St Luke's has a bariatric unit which I was unaware of previously. Spent two nights in the hospital and was on my way home. Each day I felt much better than the previous day. I followed my Drs directions and walked each day. Starting out by doing laps in my house. It was probably ten days to two weeks, with walking every day that I felt back to normal.
    Adjust to solid food was easy. My second meal I ate too fast and vomitted. I learned my lesson. If you eat too fast or too much, you suffer the consequences. When I eat too much or too fast, I have to go lay down until the feeling passes.
    My good news is that I've gone from 245lbs in July to165lbs today. I've gone from size 44w pants to now wearing 31w pants and jeans. I thought it would take me a year to lose 80lbs, not four months. Only ten pounds to my goal. I even lost a pound over Thanksgiving and I made a big Thanksgiving feast. I tasted everything. Tasting is enough for me now.
    I'm not hungry, or driven to eat emotionally for the first time in my life. I'm back in the gym lifting weights and ALL my obesity related illnesses are gone and I'm off all medications.
    When I went to my Endocrinologist's office, they didn't recognize me. I'm getting that a lot where people don't recognize me. My Endocrinologist was thrilled to tell me to go off all my meds. He also told me that he wished he could tell more of his patients to stop taking their meds and come back in six months. I asked if I should still test my blood twice daily and he said there is no reason too. Out of curiosity I have tested occaisionally and I'm between 95 and 105 which is very normal.
    My primary Dr is also amazed to take me off all my meds and he's amazed at my results and says he's definitely re-thinking his opinion of weight loss surgery. My Bariatric surgeon, Dr Sprunger was thrilled for me at my three months follow up as well.
    My Aetna insurance is great. They covered so much of my surgery. The only thing I paid was $800 to the hospital when I went for pre-op. Nothing else.
    I know my results aren't typical, but I have been following the post-op diet. I'm so thrilled. Finally when I look in the mirror I think I look great. I don't see myself as fat anymore. I can go to any store and buy clothes. For years I couldn't buy clothes in the mall and was buying clothes at Walmart. Now I can shop anywhere. The problem is now, I'm buying clothes like crazy and having so much fun shopping and buying outrageous outfits. Why dress normal and boring? Now at the mall, I'm finding they don't stock as many size 31w pants and jeans as they do size 34 - 38W. Please don't feel sorry for me. It's my cross to bear.
    Getting surgery was the best decision I've ever made. I can't recommend it enough to anyone that has fought their weight and the complications that come with it.
    I've only told my close friends that I've had surgery. One person I did tell at work that inquired how I lost so much weight, who I thought might benefit from my story said, "Bariatric surgery? Oh, you cheated". I said, "If cheating saves my life, I'll choose cheating everytime, BEOOOCH!" I know people at work have gossiped about my weight loss but I really don't care or feel like going into everything with work aquaintences who only want to gossip anyway.
    Pictures of me in the Green plaid shirt are from the beginning of Jul 2015. The ones in the jacket are from Nov 20, 2015. My most outrageous outfit and shoes yet.
    I trully hope my story will help or inspire anyone contemplating or has recently had bariatric surgery!

    And I apparently am the only one who doesn't know how to use my DVD player! I forgot I had it and just assumed nobody used them anymore! Mine has never been hooked up properly or I just don't understand how to use it. Epic fail on my part!

    I have some DVD's I play on a DVD player connected to my tv. Leslie Samone sells DVD's, has a social media page, including a youtube channel. I will also occasionally use the exercise section OnDemand through my cable provider.

    @@esskay77 I use my dvd player (connected to my tv, not a stand-alone) for the most part, although sometimes I will buy or rent a stream from Amazon Instant Video and stream it to my tv. I know a lot of people watch on their computers from YouTube or wherever, but I really prefer my tv for exercise.
    PS to the O/P, you have lots of good suggestions here but I would definitely say before you invest in anything Beachbody, make sure you view their workouts in a preview somehow. They are great workouts but the ones I have seen are not for beginners!

    I am 6 months post surgery and I love the beachbody workouts. They are workout series that you can do in the privacy of your own home and you can jump into one of our challenge groups for support and accountability. I plateaued at my four months and have lost an additional 32lbs after joining the challenge groups. If you want more info, let me know.

    You've gotten lots of really good advice. I would also highly recommend the Leslie Samone videos. They are really good. If stamina is and issue do them for 10 -15 minutes at a time.
    However in my experience it's consistency that counts. Make it your mission to do work out regularly. That's when you really start to see the benefit. Walking is good, but try to find something that challenges your core. I had zero abdominal pain post op due in part to the core work I regularly did in my aquafit classes.
    I know for many this may be a self esteem/mental issue but I can say from personal experience that no one at the gym is looking at your when you go. Most are there solely to focus on themselves. I was in high 300's when I joined my gym I went down as low as mid 300's and as high as 414. No one batted an eye. I never felt unwelcome. In fact some of the trainers and instructors actually gave me compliments when I was able to lose or when my form noticeably improved. An iPod can be your best friend. Load up your favorite tunes and rock out!
    As for going outside, it's not my favorite thing, but when I am unable to get to the gym, I do it. I simply incorporate and activity I have to do with it. If I need to mail something, then I walk to the post office. If I don't need to mail something I walk to the corner store. I buy 1 peppermint stick. I only bring my phone and a quarter so I'm not tempted to buy anything else. Otherwise I pretend I'm an artist and look for interesting things to photograph.
    My point is find something, anything and do it. I usually preview my week on Sunday's and plan what days I will go to the gym what days will be home workouts.

    What I like to work out to is old fashioned Richard Simmons Sweatin to the Oldies. I found it on DVD and use it a couple of times a week. For me, it is easy to keep up with and I like the music.

    I love belly dance. There are great home dvd's but classes are great fun and students come in all shapes and sizes. I know it's hard!
