When the truth is inconvenient . . .
Nuclear plants are a "short term" solution, they are actually THE solution. What is boils down to with a fossil plant is power output and capacity. 1 nuclear reactor puts out the equivalent of 4 fossil plants in terms of megawatts produced. Every year power demand goes up and the supply has remained basically the same. Somethings gotta give, unless of course you want to have scheduled blocks of time a day when you get to have power. I guess we could ration it so we don't pollute anymore, I'm sure we could get the american people to buy into that (I type that in a joking, yet thought provoking tone, not a combative smart a@@ one, BTW). What do you think nuclear plants need to do to evolve? We've done about all that we can do in that area. When nuclear plants were originally constructed the DOE (Dept of Energy) had the promises of a place for nuclear plants to store their fuel, you've possibly heard of it Yucca Mountain. Well that has gone to He^^ in a handbasket so to speak and nuclear plants have evolved to containing their surplus spent fuel onsite. Its quite a feat actually. Nuclear plants continually strive to be safer and to instill public's confidence.

Need Mild Fish Recommendations
I would also try sea bass and grouper (there are limits to how much grouper you can consume though, so check into that)

When the truth is inconvenient . . .
luluc, I think its awesome that you use a windmill/solar for your farm usage, that rocks!! It just doesn't work when we promote it for national usage. I actually try to live as "green" as possible, I recycle, limit Water usage, wash most clothes in cold water, etc.... But I do love my gas-guzzler of an SUV:tt2: (I know, I know). Anyways, there are actually 2 nuclear plant sites in Texas, each is a 2 unit plant (meaning there are 2 reactors). Comanche Peak- Glen Rose, TX South Texas Project- Bay City, TX As for the breast cancer issues you spoke of, I can't say. My best guess, if there was a problem because of it would be nucleotide releases in water. Nuclear plants are limited to the amount of liquid and gaseous material that they release to the atomosphere. I don't know what the regs were then, but now they are very conservative. A lot of plants (I don't have numbers) are zero emissions plants, they don't release any radioactive waste. Basically you're more likely to get sick from eating non-organic foods filled with pesticides and getting xrays at the doctor. Hope that wasn't too awful technical.

When the truth is inconvenient . . .
Yes, I do believe there should be more nuclear plants in the US. No, I cannot fathom that with the rules, specifications and regulations that are followed by US nuclear plants that Chernobyl could EVER be a reality (I can only give my opinion of US plants, for I do not know how foreign plants are regulated).

When the truth is inconvenient . . .
Another example of short sighted greening are the compact flourescent (sp?) low wattage bulbs everyone touts. Sure they reduce energy consumption, but they also contain mercury. Now we are using less energy, but we are contaminating the earth with heavy metals because most people don't know they have to be properly disposed of. I work in a Nuclear power plant so go ahead and jump on me. Most people are ignorant to the ways of nuclear power and therefore are afraid of what they don't understand. Bottom line is we make CHEAP power. So you can put up all the windmills and solar panels you want, but it drives the cost of what we in America have come to accept as a basic need, electricity. So what does that mean? More people freeze to death in the winter because they can't afford to heat there houses.

Loan from 401k
This is my experience Right now with the stock market like it is, I think it is a good idea (at my company). You need to look into the fees associated with it. Where I work they only charge a 4 dollar quarterly fee. You pay 7% interest, but you pay it to yourself. Basically the money you borrow will have a higher return than that which is in your 401K right now (with the stock market the way it is). Right now my year to date interest is negative 10%. So thats where I stand on the issue.

Non-Scale Victories!!
Jtag, Great seeing your post about deleting el losers number... Good to see that much confidence!!! So often we find ourselves putting up with more than what we should because we have low self-esteem (IMHO), so I'm glad to read your post!!

Non-Scale Victories!!
My newest NSV's I had 3 different guys tell me how nice I looked yesterday, 2 of which I don't associate with all the time. Today I'm wearing a pair of misses 16 sized pants. I bought them about a week and a half ago and they were tight. Now they are just right... but the scale hasn't moved. So weird??

Constipation SOS
If I haven't gone in more than 2 days, I'll use the Milk of Magnesia. Otherwise everytime I have a protein shake (my normal breakfast) I mix some Benefiber in.

Realize Band
My super super goal is 160 lbs. My yay goal would be under 200. I try to follow the rules for Breakfast I will have greek yogurt, oatmeal or a Protein shake. For lunch I will have a sleeve of tuna or a can of chicken (thats the usual) I like to have an apple with my tuna or mandarin oranges, something sweet. For dinner I usually have 4 oz protein (fish or chicken usually) and some veggies. I snack on cheese sticks (about 80-90 calories each) or Quaker mini drizzle cakes (i'm addicted to those). I shoot for exercising 4 times a week for a duration of 45 minutes to an hour. For exercise I mix it up between a Bosu Ball and the treadmill (alternate walking and running).

Any suggestions on Vitamins?
I started out on 2 Flinstones a day. Just changed to 1 Centrum chewable a day. They don't taste bad at all, of course I've only been taking them a few days, I might not feel that way when I get to the bottom of the bottle. I also added a Viactiv (I bought the target brand) for calcium. Thanks for the info stefgray on the different calcium types. I had no idea. Thats why I love this place!!

Realize Band
Hey fellow Realizers, I actually emailed some feedback to the Realize site this week about the amount of foods and the inability to place "custom foods" in your food diary. They said they were aware and were working on it, so take that for what its worth. I've had no problems with the band, my band date was Jan 7, 2008...Down a little over 30 lbs... I woke up from surgery hungry :Dancing_wub:. I've had 3 fills, pretty happy with my restriction now... Only time will tell

"Difficult" foods
The only problem foods that I've had are things I shouldn't be eating anyway! French fries: don't even try them any more. Everytime even before my first fill, pain. Crackers: I try and turn them to mush, I guess I probably swallow too much at one time. Shrimp: Too rubbery. Bread: Doesn't like to go down since last fill. Thats okay though I don't need it anyway. No problems with red meat or chicken. If its tough I do like Wheetsin said and try to discreetly spit it out.

What kind of band do you have?
I guess I'm the freak of the group:thumbup:. I have the J&J Realize band. No complaints so far...

First fill coming up...scared
First of all don't be scared of the pain. It is not even as bad as a bee sting. As far as being afraid of not being able to eat, I would suggest talking to your doctor about that. Every time I get a fill, my surgeon questions me about what I can eat. From what I can tell he uses my answers to decide how much a fill I need. Again, its no big deal, I too was freaking out prior to my first fill. I think I was more nervous about that than the surgery, but again, no bigee!

Measurements all out of whack.. clothes suck!
Laura, Have you ever tried tall size shirts? Eddie Bauer sells all their stuff in tall sizes, maybe you should try one of their shirts. They are made for us tall girls. I really can't wear anything from a "normal" store. Tall size all the way.

Realize Band vs. The Lap Band?
I have the realize band. Its 9cc. There are not many differences. The major differences are the anchoring system used for the port and that a low profile port is standard issue. www.realizeband.com

Clothing sizes
I'm having the same problem. My old clothes are not too big but my smaller clothes are too tight :confused2:. I can either wear something really baggy or tight. Can't wait to be a consistenly smaller size!
