    Newbie/Aetna/40 BMI

I also looked at the bulletin. It really depends on if you have any comorbidities. During the 3 month supervised process, I made sure not to go under 40 at any of my weigh ins. I was approved on my 1st letter. Not sure if I was just lucky, or played the game appropriately. The other thing is that you can't have a gain overall from your first weigh in. Hope this helps.

Official August thread! Where are you guys?

@@MrsAce I'm 5 days post op and doing well. Just trying to get my schedule of all the liquid, protein, meds and vitamins!
  4. I don't have a new view on this topic, but for me, I agree about WLS being a surgery where we're made to feel like we're being deceptive if we don't disclose. I actually worked through this with my therapist because I wanted to minimize feeling guilt and also play through how not telling would impact my life being around others. I appreciate the comments that say you can always tell later, and I think that helps relieve some pressure. I went to the hospital by myself, had one friend visit - who also picked me up at discharge. I had told him early on and he blabbed to a ton of people at the gym. I moved and won't be going to that gym anymore, so what ever! I also told my personal trainer, and although he had his opinions, he supported me. It's weird to tip-toe around my parents (they are moving to FL and are gone for a couple of weeks). My dad is very insensitive and rude about weight. I also don't want to put the power into others hands to let them tell people. In my newbie opinion, if you have the support you need (a few people knowing, therapist, support groups, etc) to be successful THAT is what is important. If your support crumbles and you have trouble, at that point I personally would consider reaching out to immediate family.

    Denied

Hang in there! I had Aetna and was approved without much issue. My program knew that Aetna required 3 months of a supervised diet. I the time of submitting to insurance I had 3 weeks of classes, surgeon consult, psych eval, 2 NUT visits - All were in person and I weighed in for most except for the pysch eval. This process was March - June. The admin at the office said Aetna can be sticklers and count out the 3 months exactly, so I had to time my appointments so it covered it! I wish you well, stay strong!
  6. I don't have advice for you, but just wanted to say hang in there and that we're thinking of you! Let us know what happens. I hope you can connect with someone else on here who has experience with it.

    Post op day three

This happened to me yesterday. I was leaving the hospital and waiting and tried to pass gas. OMG, this is not gas, better get to the bathroom! Sad part was I didn't even have anyone to tell. I was so excited that I went poop.; ) Oh boy.

    Post-op Panic Attacks

This is probably different, but on my 2nd day after surgery, I had 2 random crying fits. I was fine, I wasn't thinking about changes, the pain, or missing food. I guess it would be better to say I was "weepy". They gave me lorazepam which helped. I was mostly embarrassed because I couldn't stop, and was afraid the residents and nurses were thinking I'm crazy! It felt similar to a mood swing I once had will on the pill. Hang in there! This was a major surgery for your body!!

Official August thread! Where are you guys?

Whoo Hoo! August 6th for me in Wisconsin. I'm in the "preparing the nest" phase of buying Vitamins, Protein samples, water/shaker bottles and figuring out what to puree. liquid diet of course! I ordered a bunch of protein samples from Nashua Nutrition. My NUT suggested I wait until after to try them as my preferences/taste may change. I'm a little anxious as this is my first surgery and I'm coming home alone (I have a friend to transport me home). Good luck everyone!

    How long

Oh boy! I'm right there with you. The waiting is the hardest part! I finished my pre-op group classes on April 10th, but had a couple visits after that to meet the required 3 months (w/Aetna). I'm approved as of last week, but apparently the person who schedules and coordinates the surgeries and final pre-op appts was on vacation. I just want a date to plan for being off work, and to coordinate my move to a new apartment which I hope to do prior to surgery. Hang in there! Let us know when you find out!
  12. Oh, this is a rant. I should be so thankful, but in the moment it was unexpected and terrifying. Looking back on it now... No big deal. Approved and ready to go!
