  1. Has anyone tried any waist training? I carry all my weight in my stomach and cant seem to shrink it much. I am losing weight every week, but it never seems to be from my midsection. It is has gotten a lot softer and I am down to a size 12 but it the weight seems to stick around. I workout every day and do ab workouts 3-4 days a week along with cardio every day. I was doing some reading on getting rid of belly fat and came across an article on waist training. Sounded interesting, if not a little uncomfortable at times, but if it works I thought I would try it. Any one have any experience with it?
  2. I have the fitbit Blaze. I love it. The challenges keep me motivated to get more steps in to beat friends and family. Never under estimate bragging rights. I started with the flex and moved to the blaze after my surgery. I wanted to have the heart rate feature. Its a little big to wear while sleeping for me, but I don't care to much for it to record sleep. I like how big it is during the day so I can see my totals anytime and the fact that it has built in workouts. I also like that it connects to my phone for notifications. This way I can see who is calling during a workout without having to stop and pull out my phone.

    How Things Have Changed

I am the planner of my family and everyone has been waiting for the menu for Thanskgiving for a few days. I pulled up the one from last year and there was so much food I couldn't believe we went through it all. Mind you we have about 50 people for Thanksgiving as it is the one time a year the whole family get together. I was going over the list and wondering do we need 3 different types of potatoes, 2 different stuffings and mac and cheese. Not to mention the multiple apps and desserts. But I had to remember that there are 40 other people that want options and lots of them on this day. Normally I do all of the veggies but this year, I signed up for one app, 2 veggies and 1 dessert. This way I know there will be something healthy that I can eat and not feel like I am just watching everyone else eat. It is my first Thanksgiving since surgery so I don't want to set myself up to make bad choices. Making a shrimp salsa as an app. (we get together at 1 to watch football, dinner isn't until 4) Asparagus and brussel sprouts are my veggie choices this year. No oil, butter but no one will know the difference. Thinking of baked apples for dessert. Hopefully wont have any problems making good choices.
  4. I remember when I got under 200, my first thought was to celebrate with a some bad food like I used to do. Of course I didnt, so I went shopping instead. Going forward I would buy new shoes every 25lbs. Gave me something to look forward and reward to myself that wasnt food releated

What do you do at the gym?

I am 10 months out and still have a hard time with this. I GO to the gym 5-7 times a week, walk 4 miles at lunch during the week and on the weekends I hike or kayak. While at the gym I do a warm up on the treadmill, then do the 30 min circuit (planet fitness) on Tuesday, Thursday, and Satuday. Monday and Friday I do abs and Upper body Wednesday and Sunday I do abs and lower body. I am at the gym 45 min to hour. Problem is I am only losing 1-2 lbs a week, some weeks none at all but not gaining. Some people say I am not eating enough for the amount of exercise I am doing, some say I need to change up the workouts. I just started seeing a new Nut and plan on get a trainer in the next couple of weeks. I have 20 more lbs to loose to reach my goal weight. Want to get there before my year anniversary. I think it is a lot of trial and error and what works for you
  6. I am obsessed with Peanut Butter. Never was a big fan before surgery, but cant get enough of it now. I am 10 months out and for a while I was eating a serving, or two, of PB a day. I started with reduced fat PB then moved to natural PB. Dont crave the natural PB without sugar as much, but it isnt terrible. It is high in calories for so little food, but I work out everyday and needed to add more calories to my overall diet. Nut also wanted me to add more carbs (seemed weird to me when she said, but it seems to be working) So once or twice a week before I go to the gym I will have peanut butter on one slice of Delightful Wheat bread. Gives me carbs and Protein to get me through workout. My nut thinks as long as I meeting my macros and staying under my calories or the day, there is nothing wrong with PB in moderation. That is the part I had to work on. I was going through a jar every 7-10 days for awhile. I now try an limit myself to 3-4 times a week. It fulfills that sweet, rich taste I crave sometimes. Really should try the PB2 or PB flavored shakes.

    December sleeve

I was sleeved on 12/29. The day of surgery I was 226. Today I am 179.7. For the most part I am happy with my weight loss. It has been a little slow the last month or so. My doctor keeps telling me to not sorry about calories so much and just meet my Protein and Water goals. The NUT through my surgeon is not the greatest so she hasn't been that helpful. I have done a lot of online research and been following calorie goals that I found. For another month I am staying under 800 calories. Most days I do about 700 calories but I have been getting a lot of help online saying my slow weight loss is because I need more calories or less gym time. I work out 5 - 7 days. Every other gym day I do weights and hour on treadmill, the others I just do hour on treadmill. Now that the weather is getting better I have taken up hiking so I have been skipping treadmill days for 4 mile walk outside. In the last week or so I have been upping my calories to account for the exercise but myfitnesspal still tells me I am not eating enough to lose weight. It can be very frustrating. In a few weeks I am supposed to up my calories to 1000 a day. I just found out my insurance allows us unlimited NUT visits as long as it is in network so I plan on looking for a new NUT that can help me get my weight loss back on schedule. As for what I typically eat every day, shake made with fat free Fairlife milk. lunch - 3oz of chicken, tuna or turkey lunchmeat. Snack - laughing cow cheese with 3 -4 triscuits. dinner - 3oz salmon/flounder/shrimp or chicken/pork. Sometimes do turkey meatballs. Dinner I usually add in a couple oz. of green beans/asparagus/carrots/brussle sprouts. A couple times a week if I still have room after the meat and veggies I will have a tablespoon of mashed potatoes or a few roasted potatoes or sweet potatoes. If I am going right to the gym from work I will do a Protein Bar or greek yogurt before I leave work. If I go to the gym later I will do that after my workout if it isn't too late. I always like to get some protein in after weight training though. My diet is pretty much the same thing all the time. made with fat free Fairlife milk. Lunch - 3oz of chicken, tuna or turkey lunchmeat. Snack - laughing cow cheese with 3 -4 triscuits. Dinner - 3oz salmon/flounder/shrimp or chicken/pork. sometimes do turkey meatballs. Dinner I usually add in a couple oz of green beans/asparagus/carrots/brussel sprouts. 8. Thanks everyone for the input and kind words. I don't want to give up the workouts as I am almost to the point of enjoying them. I will try adding a few more calories and fat and see if that helps. I have done nuts and stuff before but have been staying away from them because of the high calorie count for 5g of Protein. My thought was I can do half a protein bar for 2x the protein and half the calories. Guess that is my old way of thinking more about calories than anything else. Good news is when I weighed myself this morning the scale finally moved. I thought it would say 183 forever. Today 181.2.
  9. I have been trying to embrace this stall but I have never had one last this long. I started my journey October 2015 at 247lbs. Day of surgery (12/29) I was 226. Today I am 183. I am super happy about the weight loss but frustrated that in the last month it has only been 1lb. I work out at least 5 days a week if not all 7. I always do an hour on the treadmill to meet my fitbit step goals. 3 -4 times a week I add in half hour of weight training. Right now my doctor has me on an 800 calorie or less diet. Most days I am around 700. Protein is around 60-80 grams and most days I am over 70, but always over 60 even if I have to add something towards the end of the day. My carbs are under 40 every day. Most carbs come from Protein Bar or fruit. A few times a week I will have laughing cow cheese on 3 triscuits. Typical day is a Protein shake for breakfast; 3oz of chicken for lunch, dinner is usually 3 oz. of turkey meatballs or seafood. Will add some veggies most nights as well. Just started adding Snacks in as I just started to feel hungry a little more. So around 3PM I will do half a protein bar or some fruit or cheese and triscuits. Will sometimes add a snack after night workout (usually the other half of protein bar) I take my Vitamins every day. My biggest issue is Water. It’s not that I don't like water, I hate crystal light and flavors in my water, and I love plain water. I just don't drink much, never did. I always get at least 6 glasses a day, and some days I can get in 8, but never more than that. I am a daily scale user. In the 3 1/2 months since surgery I have never let the number affect me. I know that it won’t always change every day, but 1lb in a month is frustrating. I am not going to deny that there have been slips in my eating habits, but 98% of the time I am eating what I am supposed to. I am allowed to start doing bread and Pasta at 6 months but will stay away as long as possible (this is a slider food for me and even worse I work for a bakery so there is always bread and baked goods around.) But I have had a few pieces of miniature chocolate or a few bites of cake on my mom’s bday. I always do an extra workout when I have these treats and make sure that they don't happen often. I am just at a loss as to how to start losing again. I have read some other threads on stalls and today started on the basics again. Just doing shakes for Breakfast and lunch. Chicken/seafood for dinner with veggies only. Depending on my protein intake will add a protein bar before/after workout. I am just worried because I am supposed to up my calories to 1000 at the 5 month mark. If I am not losing at 800 calories, will 1000 be any better. I log everything I eat and drink in myfitnespal and everyday it tells me I am not eating enough for weigh loss so maybe more calories will better. I wasn't expecting 20+lbs every month but more than 1 would have been nice. Is there something else I should be doing?
  10. I have been giving away all my clothes as I lose the weight. I am about where you are, down 50lbs and the 2x and 20's don't fit. I decided to give that stuff away as I go down. Once I get to a 14, I will keep the 16's until I get to a 12 then I will get rid of the 16s and keep the 14's. I plan to never be in a 20 again so no sense keeping the clothes.
  11. I have the same problem. Was not a big drinker before surgery. Would drink 20oz pepsi during the day and glass of ice tea at night. That was about it. I get in 48oz of Water a day, but that is struggle sometimes. I have been getting in the habit of setting deadlines to drink everyday. 1 bottle on my way to work. 1 bottle before lunch. 1 bottle before I leave. 1 bottle at night. Doesn't always work out that way thought. Usually I am driving home with that 3rd bottle and I am forcing myself to drink the rest of it before bed.
  12. So excited. Got on the scale this morning and it read 199.5. Haven't seen that in 20 years. I thought I got there two weeks ago but I had just gotten a new scale and wanted to wait till I saw the doctor to confirm before I got too excited. I weighed myself before I went and it said 196. Get to the doctors and it was 202.6. It was a cheap scale so I wasn't to disappointed. Was still 6lb less than my last visit. So I went out and got a better scale and it gave me the same weight I had at the doctors. Got on today and lost 3 lbs since Thursday. Down 27lbs since my surgery on 12/29.

    Its official - in Onederland

thanks everyone. I am super excited. In the past whenever I reached a goal or just done something I wanted to Celebrate my go to was food. Even weight loss goals. Lost 10lbs time to celebrate with a hot fudge sundae. Bought a new pair of shoes instead. I might get addicted to this new reward system lol
  14. congrats. I have 4 more lbs to go to get there as well. I set small goals and it is def motivation to get to each one. Getting under 200 is my first goal. I was 226 on surgery day 12/29. Yesterday I was 203. It has been 15 years since I saw under 200.

    How long does it take

thanks for the replies all. It is really helpful. 5 more lbs and I will be under 200 for the first time in 15 years. Will just take the successes where I can and be patient with the rest.
  16. I am 1 month out and i ham down 20lbs since surgery and 40 from my prediet. I have noticed the weight loss from the chest up and in my legs, but so far nothing in my stomach. All my clothes pretty much fit same. How long did it take for you to start seeing the weight loss?

    Pissed off! Need to vent

thanks for the advice. I don't see the NUT until next Friday. It will be the first time with her since I had to change doctors when they found the mass in my ovary during the first surgery. (was supposed to have in Nov but got canceled) My original doctor couldn't get me scheduled before the end of the year and I wanted my GYN to do the ovary surgery and they were two different hospitals. Thankfully the new doctors has a better nutrition program. Wished I was there the whole time. My first surgeon only required one visit with the NUT. The new on required 3 months of classes/visits. Wish I had gone through that but they fast tracked everything for me to get done by the end of year and they wanted the ovary out ASAP. So I just trying to read as much as I can and not stress to much about the scale until next week. I will try to add some healthy Snacks in between to increase the calorie intake. At this point I just doing 3 meals. I am almost never hungry so I forget to eat between meals.

I am also frustrated at my lack of weight loss. My clothes all still fit the same as well so I know I haven't lost inches either. I am only 3 1/2 weeks out. I was 226 the day of surgery and week after was 215. I have been stuck there since. I am getting in 60 - 80 grams of Protein each day (the last week been closer or over the 80) The Water is a little harder. Before surgery I barely drank 32oz of any liquid a day. I am pretty steady at 56 oz now, sometimes I can get in another 8, but not once have I gotten to 64. I take all of my Vitamins that I am allowed at this point. I did have my right ovary removed at the same time as the WLS and I have PCOS on my left ovary. I also have hypothyroidism which I take meds for. Both of these I know make weight loss a little harder. I am only allowed walking at this point but I have been doing half hour to 45 min every day plus my daily steps. My fitbit tracks me between 7k and 10k each day for the last two weeks. I weigh everything I eat and track it in myfitnesspal. I know I am not getting enough calories everyday. first two weeks I never got above 400 calories a day. Since I have moved onto pureed/soft foods this week I have been able to up it to 600 - 800 calories a day. I am trying really hard not to be discouraged but it really hard when the scale just wont move and my clothes are all fitting the same.
  19. I am in the pureed stage of my post op diet. I have noticed that dairy makes me a little nauseous, but lasts just a short time. I moved to Fairlife milk as it is lactose free and twice as much Protein. Almond milk and soy milk made me really nauseous. I have tried the non- dairy Protein drinks and I just couldn't get them down so I just deal with it. I was looking for things to eat during this stage and a lot of people had suggested ricotta bake. I made this last night with some finely chopped ground turkey. I ate 2 ounces last night for dinner, and then 2 ounces for lunch today. It made me a little nauseous last night, but tasted really good. When I ate for lunch it came right back up. only got about half way through the 2 ounces. So I have two questions How many times to you try something before you put it on the list of cant do anymore? Since I only did about an ounce, should I eat again? I don't feel hungry or anything but I am barely getting 400 calories a day any only 60-70 of protein.

    TMI - Bowel Movements

took me almost 2 weeks before I had a BM. and only once this week. I also have no pain. My surgeon wasn't to concerned since I wasn't having pain. I do take a Senkot daily and was thinking of going to twice a day. Haven't had the issue with diarrhea though

    Lettuce

I am only 3 weeks out so I am not any where near ready to even think about lettuce. I was just wondering if people have the same issues with brussell sprouts? They are one of my fave veggies.
  22. Has anyone used this as a way to increase Protein? A vegan friend told me about it and I was just wondering if anyone else has tried it.
  23. I am about to start my pureed stage of food. I have been looking online for some suggestions and have gotten a lot of great ideas. Now that I will be combining multiple ingredients I am trying to find an app or website where I can out in each of the ingredients to determine what the totals are per servings (Protein, calories, fat) I assume there is something out there that does this. Any suggestions?
  24. I have never had a problem with milk before. Wasn't something I drank straight but never had any issues. I am two weeks out and am on full liquids. Tried making my Protein shakes with both FF milk and almond milk. Both don't seem to agree with me. I also cant seem to tolerate pudding or yogurt. I am hoping this is just temporary. Any one else have this issue?
  25. I am 9 days out and still struggle to get all my Protein and Water in each day. Its like a constant battle to remember to drink something. I am working at home and sometimes I realize it has been an hour since I have had anything. For the most part I am not hungry or thirsty, but I know I have to do it. The first few days I barley got down a couple bottles of water and 3 Protein shakes and that was for the whole three - four days. Each day got better. I noticed the more I increased the protein and water, I started losing again. So the last three days I have gotten in the minimum in each day. I also moved onto full liquids which was great but I am having some issues. Cant seem to tolerate almond milk or yogurt (only tried greek) I made SF pudding with FF milk and protein mix and that seems to be ok (though it didn't set very well.) Creamed Soup was pretty good though. Thankfully because everything else is so sweet. I just ordered unflavored protein so I can add it Soups and stuff. The protein shakes made with water are just so sweet it is getting harder and harder to get down. My big issue is that I am not sure I am eating correctly. I start the morning with 8oz water. I have to take thyroid meds in the AM and then I cant eat for an hour. It takes about an hour to get the water down. I think I am so worried to over do, maybe I am under doing it. With each meal taking about an hour to drink, it takes a lot of time and effort to get down. I started full liquids and after about 2oz I stop. I get a weird feeling in my stomach so I stop. I don't know if I should push this because now an hour later I'm getting hungry. I hear that eating too often is just as bad as overeating so I don't want to get in that habit. Just not sure what is actual pain or signs to stop eating and what is just discomfort of putting new foods in and everything is just adjusting. Any suggestions
