Yay Sunny! So glad you got to eat today! I had my post op appointment today and got to move on to soft foods. After weeks of protein shakes the egg I had for dinner was amazing!!! I only ate 1/2 of the egg because I started to feel full. I think I'm going to have to keep drinking 1 shake a day until I can hold a little more food. Today is a good day! Anyone else get to eat yet?
  2. You are awesome Justin! Keep it up!

    Protien shakes

My first post op appointment is tomorrow and I actually have this down as one of the questions to ask. I haven't switched to soft foods yet but I think it's going to be hard to get all the protein in with the small amount we can handle right now.

    Post-op Blues

Hang in there! You're doing good. Alex has some really good advice.
  5. You guys want to hear something awesome? Ok, I LOVE pizza too... It was a weekly meal at my house. I started my pre-op diet on the 13th of March. My surgery was on the 31st. I honestly haven't had a craving for pizza (or anything unhealthy honestly) since about 5 days after I started the pre-op diet. I haven't been hungry at all since surgery. It is such a relief to be outside of surgery and know that it is working. I know I'll eventually get hungry again and I'm sure there will be some cravings but at this point it seems like this will be manageable. Wish you guys luck on your surgeries!

    Always Gastric Bypass

I feel the same way. My surgery was 3/31. I woke up at 7am this morning and I immediately thought if I don't get up now I'll run out of time to get all my protein and water in for the day. I wanted to go back to sleep so bad... And I did for another hour. Didn't get all my water in either.

    Left side pain

Same issue for me up through yesterday (surgery was 3/31). Was going to call the dr today but I woke up without any pain today. I'm curious if this is just a normal thing. I read some other posts last night that described the same pain but said they were running a fever too though. Most of those said they ended up with an abscess.

    Different Options

I felt just like you when I started. I also wanted a sleeve. My thought was that I wouldn't be rearranging my guts and I would have less issues with not getting enough nutrients. It seemed better in my mind. My dr also suggested RNY. He said their data showed more weight loss with RNY (though the sleeve was close behind) and they had seen less weight gain with RNY 2-5 years post op. After doing a lot of research of my own and still not coming to a clear decision I went ahead with the dr's recommendation. I'm only 10 days post op so I don't really have any advice but I hope you find what you need to make your decision.
  9. I'm not a gay male either but would like to wish you luck on your journey. I feel your pain with the protein shakes. Totally sick of them too! I hope your wound heals up soon.

I love myfitnesspal! Been using it for years. It's a great tool. I think I'm going to try maybe an egg and some turkey for my first meal. I've been looking up all kinds of recipes so I can get my grocery list ready for next week.

Sunny... That sucks so bad! I'm sorry. My follow up is next Wednesday and I'm hoping to move past Protein drinks and Clear Liquids then. Getting old but it's going to be worth it in the end. Hey, on a side note, I feel fairly normal today. I was sitting at my desk around 4 this afternoon and realized I hadn't really been in any pain today. Most of the week it's been really uncomfortable sitting at my desk all day.

    Couple's Journey

I think it's so awesome that you guys are going through this together! I wish both of you the best of luck on your journey. Tanya- my 2wk liquid diet is clear liquid only. The Dr doesn't want us eating anything at all. 6 days left until it's over and I can't wait.

    Sensetivity to Smells

Same here... The big thing for me is that I can smell everyone's breath. It is disgusting. Even when I'm several feet away.

    Not telling anyone

I didn't tell anyone other than my husband and my mom (she watched the kids while I was in the hospital). I took a week off from work for "vacation". Surgery was on a Tuesday and I was back Monday.

I'm feeling much better today. 1 week out now. Down 8 lbs from surgery. Went back to work yesterday. The weather was so nice today that I went outside and walked 3 times. It felt so good outside. I still feel like I am bloated but today I didn't get that "extremely full" feeling until about 1 today. That's a big improvement for me. I was feeling that way by the time I'd get 5oz down first thing in the morning. I have been trying to sleep on my side/belly for 3 days now. I wake up with a little pain too so I usually roll back over onto my back before the night is over. Hope everyone is doing well!

    What should I pack?

I brought Chapstick because some Drs don't allow you to drink anything for "x" hours (for me it was only 6 hrs- sounds like some people have to wait until the next morning) and your mouth gets really dry. The Chapstick helped my lips from getting dry and cracked.

    What should I pack?

I brought a robe, Chapstick, iPhone charger, change of underwear, deodorant, and toothbrush/toothpaste... only used my robe, iPhone charger and Chapstick. I felt too crummy to try and make myself presentable.
  18. Congrats! You have done an awesome job!
  19. My surgery was March 31 also. At this point the max I have reached is 45 oz of water. It sounds like a lot of people have trouble fitting everything in at this point. My Dr doesn't have me moving to soft foods until 2 weeks post-op.

    March 2015 Surgery!

My surgery was 3/31 so I'm not quite a week out. My WTH moment was on days 2-3. The gas pain was horrible. Fortunately it was tolerable by day 4. I don't have very much pain now. The only time anything hurts is if I stretch too far or move too fast. I'm on full liquids until March 15th. It's still pretty hard to get in the full amount of liquid my dr wants (64oz Water and 2 Protein shakes per day). My family and I met up with my dad at Village Inn this morning for Breakfast. It didn't bother me at all to sit there and just drink water while everyone else ate. I haven't had an appetite at all which is a nice change. I am ready to move to soft foods though but only because drinking an ounce every 10-15 minutes or so is getting really old. It will be over before I know it though. Found out yesterday that I got Thrush. It's pretty gross. Doesn't hurt or anything at least. The Dr said this is normal within he first week after surgery because of the large amount of antibiotics they gave me in the hospital. So I get to let a lozenge dissolve in my mouth 5 times a day for the next 10 days. Fun! Other than that I feel pretty good. I noticed that I can get up and move around much easier than yesterday. I have been walking 1-2 miles a day (only for the past 3 days) and I get to go back to work tomorrow. Glad to see everyone else is progressing too!

    14 days to go....

@"meSparkle83" My surgeon asked us to drink a whole 10-12oz bottle of it by noon the day before surgery. So I tried as hard as I could to chug the whole thing. It was so salty and sour that I really couldn't (the store only had Lemon flavored). It was probably one of the nastiest things I've ever drank. I have a feeling once I get a few months down the road it will be totally worth it though.

    14 days to go....

Ugh... The magnesium citrate was awful. Good luck on your surgery! Hope it goes well.

    Been a rough week

I'm sorry you're still feeling bad. I had the same pain the first 3 days. It was really rough. Hang in there. My outlook changed as soon as I was feeling better. Hope it clears up for you soon.

Need advice, new to site-Self pay all up front?

Same here. Had to pay in full before my pre-op appointment (roughly 2 weeks before surgery).
  25. My doctor gives us a huge manual on things to expect after surgery and it says that it is normal to have 1-3 soft stools per day while still on the liquid diet. It tells us to call the office if we have persistent diarrhea though.
