  1. I'm on the pills and my doc recommended that I switch to either the iud or the implant but was really leaning towards the iud. My aunt had the iud and hers ended up going through her cervix and then I read on Facebook that another woman had the iud and hers ended up in her uterus. She's going to have to have surgery to have it removed and if they can't get it out without any complications she may have to have a hysterectomy and she's only 28! I need help on deciding which birth control to switch to. Don't want the depo b/c of the slow weight loss & the iud is definitely not an option.

Just like with WLS you'll hear all sorts of birth control horror stories. Pills make some crazy, people say shots make them gain weight, etc. I'm on my third IUD and have never had a complication. I also already have two kids and don't plan to have more. Personally I would not recommend am IUD to one without kids. I'm so out of the loop with bc options since I've had an IUD so long, but take others experiences lightly... Everyone reacts differently

  2. Hi everyone! I started my journey in the beginning of November when I had my initial consultation with my suegeon. About 2 weeks later I had my first visit with my nutritionist. It was right before my period was supposed to start and I had gained 5 pounds between the visit with my surgeon and the nutritionist. I have Aetna and I'm doing the 3 month program they offer. In their guidelines, it says I can't have a net gain during the program. Does this mean I will be denied since I gained in the very beginning?? Or do they look at the weight the first weigh in and the last after I complete the program and it can't be a gain between those two?

I'm so nervous that I'm doing all of this work and all of these visits and I'm going to be denied from the very beginning.

    Thanks for your help everyone!

You can't have a net gain, so that would mean you can weigh more than you did in your initial weigh in after the three months are done. If you started in November, then by February you need to be the same or less weight. (I'm guessing based on what you wrote)

How has your eating been? Are you keeping carbs low, not drinking calories??

I never bought into the period weight gain thing. Sure my weight fluctuates, but I've never seen that fluctuation around my period.

  3. I'm an HR manager for a Fire Department. We have a weight requirement that has to be met before you can even attempt the physical (And our physicals aren't strenuous really, strenuous activity doesn't start until you are in the academy). EMT's and FF's have the same weight requirements here. I'd be surprised if 1) they don't have a weight requirement and 2) they let you do a physical.

  4. @@Daveo

That's what was odd to me. He had a bypass, and it seems it was to keep the swelling down in the opening in his pouch? So because he wasn't taking it, he couldn't keep anything down and Dr Now had to go in and widen the opening. My husband had a bypass, and I don't remember him taking any medication for that? Of course, his was almost 10 years ago, so maybe I don't remember?

The only prescription meds I was in post op was carafate, to avoid ulcer formation and pain meds. I thought Dr. now was stretching saying the "swelling" (aka stricture) was a result of not taking meds.

  5. Thank you all for the replys .. I just called My insursnce and they told me they only need a letter from the surgeon . No other requirements needed. I'm going to a seminar on feb 9 . Anybody tell me how long did they process take between the seminar , surgeon , & diet ? Thank you.

It differs for every insurance company and surgeon. 6 month supervised weight loss is pretty standard, pre-op testing and then surgery.

In my case I had no supervised diet requirement-- I was about 6 weeks from consultation to surgery.

  6. For me- anything with a high fat content.

Fried anything-- nope-- tummy doesn't like that at all.

Bacon- Oh how I miss you bacon

    Bologna- to fatty

Some cuts of pork (IE center cut-- I can eat loin end though)

pancakes (but oddly bread doesn't bother me at all-- pancakes feel like a led weight in my stomach

Farm raised salmon (but I can eat wild caught no problem)

Initially mayo didn't sit well- but that has worked itself out.

  7. This is my problem! Apparently I gained 4 lbs over night....damn Fiji Water I drank at 3am! Lol

So I'm really not trusting it. I have had to for about 2 years and although it's made to Bluetooth to my phone it has never actually worked.

Maybe I need to email Withings ....

And shop for a new scale!

I have a Withings scale. Personally I wouldn't be concerned about a weight fluctuation over night-- my weight easily fluctuates 1-3#'s day to day with any scale that I've used. (I also have a Taylor).

One thing I learned reading my Withings book is you are supposed to ignore the first weight you get, especially if you move the scale between uses-- it has to re-calibrate itself. My Taylor scale is the same way. I generally take the 1st weight from my withings as long as its within the norm of my day to day fluctuations, other wise I step on it a second time.

My bluetooth works fine though-- I hear the wi-fi connection can be temperamental.

  8. Hi Dawn!

Welcome and congrats on your decision! My only guess...age. I did weight watchers after the birth of my youngest son... Seemed almost effortless. In 4 months I'd lost nearly 60#s. No matter what I did after the that I couldn't lose again.

You'll lose this time, for sure. Now you just need to find that motivation to get that active once again.

Not to jack the thread, but your new profile pic is amazing! Your face looks so slim!!!

Thanks! Mind you this pic is a few months old. Everyone says I've lost "all my weight" in my face-- it messes with my head to hear that, since I wonder if they *don't* see the weight lost on the rest of me. damn mind tricks!

  9. First few days after surgery were a little painful. I took pain meds until my 5th post op day. I purposely timed my surgery to be when the kids are in school. I didn't need them pestering me with questions etc...but they were helpful when they were home. I just didn't want to feel the need to entertain them. I needed all of my focus to be on drinking, walking and Protein. I halted all household chores for two weeks, my hubby and kids did everything. By week 3, I was still home but returned to my normal routine. It's been normal ever since.

  10. You people really need to educate yourself if you ever want to get thin!

    http://www.livestrong.com/article/312510-how-many-calories-are-burned-daily-by-active-sedentary-people/

What's that sayingz? pot... Kettle....black....nevermind. I'll pass on the advice from one who is 15 weeks post op and already regulalry drinking alcohol and thinking it's aiding in your weight loss.

Healthy is my goal though. You've proven not every thin person is healthy.

  11. What kind of fitness tracker are you using? To really burn 3000 calories in a day you would literally have to do several hours of hard core cardio and even then 3000 is a lot.

Are you sure your fitness tracker is working?

Misfit Shine currently and others in the past. I always burn 2600 to 3500.

A 155-pound person burns about 596 calories in 60 minutes going 5 mph on the treadmill. I really think your fit tracker is wrong. Or you may want to cut back from your 8-10 hours of vigorous exercise every day.

I agree, I'd toss that fitness tracker fast.

  12. As of this week I finally hit a normal BMI and i promised myself when that time came I would finally share some pictures. By the way, I still do not like having my picture taken but before I hid behind everyone and because I was tall it was easy to hide the rest of me. Now I definitely am willing to get in the shot and I no longer cringe when I see the pictures.

The only pics I could find before surgery were taken on a cruise with my hubby, Son and Granddaughter. These were taken 1 month before my bypass.

My after was taken earlier today, down 137lbs and finally at a BMI of 24.9

    Amazing!!!

  13. I'm surprised to read so many allow carbs to some degree. Until this thread carbs have been communicated as the uber no no.

I monitor my carb grams daily, I try to keep them less than my Protein. I'm more conscious of the source of my carbs. I will eat bread occasionally, but won't eat Pasta or potatoes. I've had candy, and fruit, I see those as trade offs for forgoing 'dry white carbs' (bread, crackers, cookies).

  14. I'm down a 100# with 60 to go to my personal goal. I have loose skin in the typical places. For where I am thus far, I'm ok with how it looks. I don't wear Spanx cause I hate them, and really don't think things are so bad that I need them. Considering, asides from the fact I can't afford it anyway, I have no intentions for skin surgery. 1) I'm not willing to put my family through the risk and potential complications... Rny was enough. 2) my scars always keloid, no way could I live with that's much scarring/keloid.

I saw the skin tight episode and was really disturbed by how unhappy she was. It seemed abnormal to me. And even afterward, she didn't seem to be that happy, she came across to me as a person with no joy.

I do love to see the before/after of those who do have the surgery, but I'll have to just live though those people!

  15. What's is you Protein count at? And Water? It doesn't sound like you drinking enough. Are you on plan with with your surgeon requires you to be at this stage? Those are the important questions.

Your concern shouldn't be with stretching your pouch. In reading your post, I'm more concerned with you being fixated on certain foods. To me that classic head hunger. And unless you are adding Protein powder, the applesauce is a useless.

Protein is the key, at this stage every bite you take should be for the purpose of meeting your daily goal.
