Two Days Post Op
Well, let me just tell you it was not as easy as I thought it was going to be. I had surgery 1-24 and was scared the most about the IV being placed. I had my gallbladder removed two years ago and that was the most painful thing, the IV. I was the first surgery of the day at Centennial in Nashville, TN. IV went in no problem. Everyone was super nice to me.Dr. told my family the surgery went well and he could tell I had stuck to the pre op liquid diet(broth, water, popsicles, jello). But after I woke up I had a bad time with the carbon dioxide they pump your belly up with. It caused me to have chest pains on the left side and I had so many specialist come by to see me it scared my family and friends, not to mention me! After an attempt to do a CAT scan and the contrast they injected TWICE did not show up they finally took me back to my room. As the evening progressed, the pain in my chest got better. But they were still concerned about a pulmonary embalisim(blood clot in the lung) so a nurse kept coming in and taking blood to check. Not so much pain after the surgery as being uncomfortable with all the bloating and not passing gas. Never had this problem with my gallbladder surgery. So I spent the night in the hospital and got up periodically walking the halls. Must have really looked like crap because when the day nurses came back in the following morning they all were shocked at how well I looked! Dr. was pleased with the progress and had me do a chest x-ray and swallow test before releasing me. The crap you have to drink was very nauseating to me. But at least I was cleared and was going home. My x-ray did show a small amount of pneumonia, but I had also went into the hospital the morning of surgery with chest congestion. Day two I am still very bloated but really not in pain. Slept great once I got home. Working in 64oz of fluids is so much harder than I thought! It is amazing to drink 4-6 oz and my belly to be FULL! Praise the Lord!Sorry for such a long post, but wanted to share my experience with anyone who is curious, since we all experience different things.Oh, by the way I had already lost 11lbs the week before on the liquids, so I am well on my way to my goal!

How did you do on Pre-op diet?
I began my liquid diet on Tues(today is day 3) and all I can think about this afternoon is food! It hasn't helped that I work 10 hours a day and people all around me are eating the whole time we are at work, but my stomach just feels so hungry! And why wouldn't it? I am only allowed chicken or beef broth, sugar free jello, and water or diet soda. I want so bad to just chew something, so I got some sugar free popsicles and ate about 5 before stopping! Will this get any better? I am not having surgery until next Thurs!

Will pills get stuck?
Jaqui, I was just wondering who did your surgery. I am scheduled for 1-24 with Dr. Dyer at Centennial.

Famous People with the Lapband
I watched the same show yesterday also, but I have to admit it was a little discouraging to me that in 18 months she had only lost 50 lbs. But then I think, a 50 lb loss is better than gaining. I just wonder how true to her restriction is she? Am I a bad person for thinking this?

Yet Another sipping question
That is exactly what my doc told me. I know it will be hard not to drink with meals for me, but I am trying to do that now so it won't be so hard to later.

Optifast preop-anyone else?
My doctor here in TN told me not to use Slim Fast because it was high in calories and carbs. He suggested Unjury because it not only has low calories but is high in protein. I have tried the strawberry with water(tastes like liquid strawberry jello) and the chocolate and vanilla in skim milk(not too bad).If you are interested, they have a website and you can order sample packages so you don't spend alot on something you don't like.Hope this helps you! Congrats on beginning your journey and I wish you lots of success!

Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO
I have the same insurance and I had to see a dietician, have a psych evaluation, and the surgeons consult before being approved. My plan pays 100% after $2000. It was all pretty much a piece of cake. The insurance required the psych evaluation, but wouldn't pay for it. It cost me $295. Good Luck! My approval took less than 3 weeks after I completed all the requirements, part of that was the slowness of the transcription from my surgeons consult.

Centennial or Baptist
I attended the seminar at Centennial and Dr. Houston was the speaker. He was great, but I read so many great things about Dr. Dyer online and his stats were awesome, so I chose Dr. Dyer. I am just awaiting a surgery date. The hospital staff and office staff I have come in contact with have been super to me. But I am sure either hospital will be great. I know a couple of people who had Dr. Husted for gastric bypass and they loved him.

Psychological Exam & Liquid Diet Options?
I have already done the psych testing and am just waiting on a surgery date. My test was 470 true or false questions. It asked things like, "Do you hear voices when noone is around? Do you like to go hungry? I feel like people are always talking about me." That kind of stuff. No sweat. Then the shrink just talked to me about the test scores and I was on my way.Don't be nervous, it was no big deal.
