Any 'self pay' sleevers out there?

@@ronimom Hello, my surgery was done by Dr. Latchman in Girard KS. Everything went very well. The staff were awesome. I am 6 weeks post op, everything healed up fine and back on regular diet. Only problem is a nasty UTI last week but dietician and nurse both very helpful in figuring out how to boost fluids while still being able to eat:). DR Latcmen, her staff and hospital staff very attentive, caring and professional.

    May 2015 Sleevers?

Congrats to all the May Sleevers who have dates!! I am still tentative for May 6th but have run into a few hurdles . Completed EGD which revealed a previously unknown hiatal hernia which can be fixed during the sleeve surgery. The hurdles include a few issues that occurred during EGD which led to confirmation of sleep apnea and cardiac abnormalities. Waiting to hear outcome of attempts to get insurance to assist with CPAP machine ( covered the sleep study myself and also doing self pay for sleeve so am hoping they will assist with CPAP). Have appointment with cardiologist this week, no history of heart problems but evidentially there were some issues with the sedation during EGD. I am trying to stay positive and have started my 3 week preop diet a few days early:). Thanks for letting me vent:)

    VSG and a Hernia Repair

@@sh1211 I found samples at unjury', and bariatric choice and there is another place called Natasha? Not sure of name on last one. Also picked up a sample pack at netrition I also got some individual bottles of isopure RTD for right after surgery it is clear liquid with 40 grams of protein. THe other sample pack I got was syntax nectar from smart body nutrition. I didn't want to buy big containers until I figured out what flavors I liked:). To find them I just did a google search for protein powders or drink samplers:). Hope this helps

@@TammyDTM Which protein powders and supplements did you switch to? I am in process of getting samples of different ones and hadn't thought about the artificial sugar issue. Which ones worked best for you after your switch?

    May 2015 Sleevers?

Hello everyone!! I am in the process and tentative date at this time is May 6th. Still have to have EGD, which is scheduled for April 3. I will have a three week preop diet, so I have been exploring shake and yogurt options, also protein water for after surgery because I will be on clear liquids for a week. May will be here before we know it:). Go team May 2015!!!

I had first appointment with surgeon today. She reviewed surgery options and answered questions I had about the surgery itself. I have to see nut and get psych eval, then surgeon will do EGD, then will schedule sleeve date:). I have to do a three week preop diet the nutritionist will explain the specifics of both pre and post op diets. The bariatric coordinator was there also and reviewed the process and the financial end of things. I am going to call tomorrow and get apps scheduled. No need at this time for cardio consult or sleep study but they did say if anything showed concern during EGD with heart or sleep they may make those referrals prior to sleeve. I feel like I was well prepared thanks yo all the reading I did here:). Thanks everyone!!

@@mjmboston Back to work in one week, wow !! I think I am going to plan for four, but I know they would let me come back sooner if I was ready. I would hate to plan to go back in two and then possibly have to delay it. Also I know that I am going to have to train myself to sip, as currently I am more of a gulper and I want to get started developing a walking routine and have those things engrained in my daily habits before returning to work, if that makes sense

Thanks for the welcome:). I hope that wait will not be too long...of course now that I made a decision I am impatient. I had a question about recovery time..I read of younger people returning to work within a week....I am thinking about taking off four weeks to give myself time to heal and get used to changes..since I have an abundance of sick leave stashed up my work is okay with this...what experience have others had? Also had question, how do you respond to specific posts or people..I am computer challenged:) and don't have a child handy to show me how...lol

Hello to all, I was very happy to find this thread. I am 51 and struggled with obesity since childhood. I have pondered surgery a few times but always told myself just to try harder at weight loss. The outcome is that I have lost significant amounts of weight several times but have never kept it off successfully. I have decided to pursue a gastric sleeve. I have an appt with surgeon on Monday. Have been doing lots of reading and developing a set of questions for the surgeon. The down side is it will be self pay, insurance does not cover weight loss surgery but I know in the long run it will be worth every penny. It has helped a lot to read the postings here that are from people in my own age bracket, thank you all for sharing!!

Any 'self pay' sleevers out there?

I am just starting the process but my insurance dies not cover bariatric surgery. I have found surgeon in Kansas, price is 9000, which does not include prep EGD, nutrition and psych eval. My appt is next Monday both excited and nervous:)
