    Sprained ankle need true advice

Oh, maybe you can borrow or rent a knee scooter. They are great when recovering from an ankle injury.

    Sprained ankle need true advice

You should be OK. Take care of your sprain, you have 8 days where you can rest, elevate, add cold and compression. Make sure you can wrap your ankle, if needed, at the hospital. Will you have family there? You want to walk with something that stabilizes your ankle. No slippers or flip flops. You will need help putting your shoes on. If your ankle is wrapped, maybe you can wear something like a Birkenstock, with good support. You can always ask for ice for your ankle, in if it is hurting or swelling, you will be able to elevate and rest a lot the first week. I am not a Dr, but I just saw and ankle/foot surgeon this week, because I had sprained my ankle a few times too many. I wanted to know if there is something else wrong with it and if I could continue my walking. He explained what I can and can not do. The most important thing I can do is lose weight, so there is less stress on my feet..... and wear stabilizing shoes. That sucks cause I have so many pretty sandals. The shoes are kind of ugly, but I am feeling much better and can get in some reasonable number of steps a day.
  3. I had a mini face lift, which is the neck and jaw line area after loosing the first 2/3 of my excess weight. Years later, I am on my losing the last 1/3. As usual, it comes off the face first. I met with a cosmetic surgeon last week, and I will see him in the Spring. It is a safe procedure, will update me a bit. No fat to remove, no muscle to tighten, just some loose skin. I had expected that and I am still glad I did it after losing the first 90 or so. It made a big difference. Note that I am 62. I think young women should give it time and your skin can recover. For those of us with less elasticity, cremes won't do a lot.
  4. This sight has been such a help to me. I went through both of my other surgeries not having anyone to talk to. There is so much available now and this site is so helpful in setting up a plan for success. I initially picked 160 as a goal because I just have not reached that weight for 25 years and it seemed like something I could achieve. Now, after reading about the success stories I think I should pick a weight that puts me in the normal BMI range. So, 145 would be more realistic. My other big goal is to not have a fatty liver. That really bugs me. I felt my best at 135 which is where I was in high school and early 20s. I thought I should aim for 145 and see how I am. Have the liver test and see if it is healthy. If so, I would accept 145. I am 62 and I know that I do not have a lot of wrinkles because of the extra volume in my face. My face is where I lose it first so I do not want to be a thin person. Just a healthy person. So: How did you pick your goal? And, how do I edit my goal? Thanks!

    Too Much Protein?

What program/App do you use to product this. Looks awesome.

    Too Much Protein?

I have Kidney Function tests annually, a full CBC, Liver function etc, This is because I have one Kidney and a fatty liver. Also a thing called MGUS. Anyway, my nephrologist, hematologist, both told me, as a Kidney Donor, avoid red meat. Eat any animal meat rarely if ever, but especially red meat. I am close to being a pesca-vegetarian, but eat meat occasionally. The RNY reduces the amount of protein we adsorb, so I think we should stick to whatever our program or surgeon recommends. Ask your Dr to include Kidney function tests in your next blood work, and do so annually. That should help alleviate your concern.

    Tijuana surgery! Looking for recommendations

I just went to his site: Wow! I am impressed. Are you using the app? My surgery is scheduled in Guadalajara for Wednesday the 31st. I am thinking of changing to your Dr. I just contacted them. I just feel that my Dr. and his company do not have the support. He works in three cities and is not in one place. Sounds like Dr. Oritz has been there for a long time.

    I'm ready for my certs!

Fantastic! My personal trainer, a Mom of 3, was 240 pounds after he third. She worked very hard to get it off and she is an inspiration to me. I am sure you will be for your clients as well!

    Self pay Addiitonal Hospital Bill

You definitely should review those charges and ask an explanation for what was not part of your package that you purchased. I am curious about this myself. as I am self pay and they let me know there could be additional charges.

How to choose a realistic goal weight

I think my goal will be safe BMI. Thanks for the chart! That would be about 150 for me. Also, a very big goal is getting a report that says I no longer have a fatty liver. That really, really bothers me. Livers and Kidneys are important and I want good "grades" for my organs. Tomorrow, the interventionists are coming to my house. Those are friends who think I should not have surgery. They think I look just beautiful and fine and I should accept myself the way I am. Now, I am going to explain that this is not about just wearing smaller clothes, it is about getting rid of the fat around and in my liver, getting healthy. Health is the reason I work so hard in the gym and walking. However, that is just not how they think. Its only about looks. I wish they could relate their illnesses to their weight and what they consume. One of them is my shopping buddy who is 40 or 50 pounds overweight, has diabetes, smokes and almost lost her foot last year due to complications from PAD and diabetes. I love her and I spent a lot of time helping her during her recovery. I also want to do this for her, to show her by example, and not to be enabler for either of us. I won't go shopping with her, or eating out now. I think she is sad, and worried I won't be there for her.

    7 Pounds from Goal......

Have you tried measurements? I asked my personal trainer to take my measurements and weigh me as it has been five weeks since I have been practicing good eating habits and targeting 1200 calories a day. Only 6.5 pounds down on that scale, but 14.5 inches lost! 9.5 pounds on my home scale. Its crazy. I am on the pre-surgical diet now, so weight loss will speed up a little. I think I am going to take the tape measure out once a week. The scale can really be frustrating. Still, I am going to weigh every day because I read that the most successful people do that. The measurements will keep me sane.

    Week 5 Update

I traveled to Spain this year. Have been there a few times in the past few years. What I loved was tapas. Small, delicious dishes served one after another. I had a tapas party a few weeks before I began the presurgical diet. I made sure that there were a lot of dishes that were great for my health conscious friends and a few for their husbands (ha!). Everyone brought a tapas dish and I made 6. Half the people (women) were on keto diets so the carb dishes were for men. Several guests were vegan. The great thing with tapas, is you can make something special for each person and they can just ignore the ones outside of their scope. I think I will do another before Christmas. You can eat very little, eat slowly, and no one notices!
  18. I did have a breast lift, 15 years ago, 5 years after my RNY. 2nd best thing I did after the Bariatric surgery. Girls still look good. Torrid have wonderful stretchy lace bralettes that are not tight but work for providing a little support and they can help you look pretty. They have size 14. I am sure that they have them elsewhere. @Missouri-Lee's Summit It has been 20 years since my RNY. I was working and traveling for work. I, too, had problems with diarrhea. I fasted for 24 hours before a flight because I did not want to have to get up to on the plane, only to be told to sit down. I had a friend lose it and she said it was the worst thing that ever happened to her. Then, I would just worry myself sick over where the bathrooms were where ever I visited. So, I spent a lot of time researching and testing foods. I can not eat any fatty things. Nothing. No ice cream, no soft cheeses, nothing deep fried, no buttery baking. I have to avoid any fatty meat, meat in general. Low fat dairy does not trigger a problem. Trust me, if I know I am going to be home all day, I may have a scoop of ice cream. But I have learned its just not worth it. The other thing I did was pelvic floor exercises. Well, my trainer at the time (a mom of 6), said to do thirty pelvic floor lifts three times a day. Do them while you do the dishes for example. She said, just squeeze your butt muscles like you are trying to stop a fart. "keegles " can also help. (spelling?) I always have Imodium in my purse. I am scheduled for a modification/revision of my pouch and RNY on the 31st of this month. Post surgery, when I can have blended foods, I will add oatmeal(tablespoon uncooked) and brown rice (tablespoon cooked) to my meals as that slows things down. Maybe that will help? My Mom and several relatives had IBS, and they have not had bariatric surgery. I think I am just an IBS person with bariatric surgery, so I need to be extra careful. Good luck....

    It's been a while...

Well, I am new to the site, so I have not enjoyed your posts before. Thank you for sharing your story. So happy for you and to see yet another person who looks amazing. You look happy, healthy and handsome. It is so good to post that you ignored some significant, serious symptoms for a few days. I think for people that have been obese, we tend to do that. I don't know about you, but I would go to the Dr. with a problem and pretty much would get: "could be due to your excess weight" So I just stopped going. My friends or family have forced me, even tricked me, into going to the Dr. or emergency room because I am stubborn, always think it will get better on its own. I have learned my lesson, sounds like you have too! Best of luck with staying healthy!!!!!
  20. I did not even know it was possible until someone told me about their procedure. This person had a revision and lost 50 pounds. I consulted with her surgeon, wondering what he could do to help me with gastric reflux and making my stomach pouch smaller. He explained the choices and then made a recommendation. Really, I would not have thought of it on my own, but now I am excited. My RNY did help me loose 100 pounds, 19 years ago and I kept 80 or so off, so it was successful. I just want to go further and he will see if there is something he can do with the reflux.

How to choose a realistic goal weight

I think my goal will be safe BMI. And I will wait and see how I feel and look when I hit that. Also, I do not want a fatty liver so that has to be normal too.

    Pre-op work out

I just returned from the gym. My personal trainer could tell I am not a deficit calorie diet after about 20 minutes. I lost steam. Usually we are increasing weights, but she did not today. She asked if I could have a small amount of carbs before workout. I am thinking I might have my veggies and protein for breakfast, and have the shakes for lunch and dinner. The veggies are carbs. I started on June 24 and it is July 22 today. lost 6.5 pounds and 14" (6 points of measurement). I feel so strong. I am going to miss the gym after the surgery.
  23. That is a very good point. Hospitals have a lot of sick people in them. I am glad you had a good experience.
  24. Thanks for this post. I wonder what facility he works out of. I will check with several of my friends in the Medical profession about the state of affairs in Guadalajara, in the hospital I will be going to. There are strict protocols to how to prepare a surgical room and special training for people who clean surgical tools and devices. Obviously, someone is doing a terrible job of this.
