misswhitneym got a reaction from jane13 in What's your "weight loss pet peeve?"
I'm the exact opposite. I NEVER shared food before surgery, but now, as soon as I'm done, it's fair game for my husband. If he's not around, my extra food usually goes straight into the trash, so at least when he poaches off my plate, I know it's not going to waste.

misswhitneym got a reaction from chavezmommy in What Brands of Drinks do you use?
Recently I've been LOVING Hint Water and Ayala Herbal Water. I've found Hint Water at Whole Foods and my normal grocery store, but the Herbal Water I've only found at my normal grocery store. They're unsweetened.
Some of my favorite flavors are Honeydew, Watermelon, or Cucumber for the Hint Water, and vanilla Mint Lemongrass or Lemon Ginger for the Herbal Water.

misswhitneym got a reaction from LaLa Lady in things i wish they would have told me...
I wanted to be as prepared as possible, but I overshopped! I didn't want to eat anything more than just once or twice, so I ended up throwing a LOT away.
I wish I knew that it would take a WEEK for the gas pain to go away. Also, I didn't know that the gas pain would be worse than any other pain.
Finally, I wish I knew it would take 3-4 weeks for me to get my energy back. I was completely zonked out the first few weeks.

misswhitneym got a reaction from LaLaLucy in How many days were you in the hospital?
My surgeon told me there was an 80% chance I'd only be there one night. I had a lot of pain and nausea, and I wasn't ready to go home the day after surgery, so they kept me another night. By day 3, I went home feeling a lot better (so 2 nights in the hospital).

misswhitneym got a reaction from Nikki Monroe in Any ST. LOUIS sleevers familiar with Dr. J. Stephen Scott out of Des Peres Hospital?
After I submitted, 6 weeks sounds about right. (Granted, that doesn't include the 6 months of document gathering leading up to submission). It took about 2 weeks for my insurance to approve, then surgery was about 3-4 weeks after that. I was so impatient and would have loved for it to go faster, but it all worked out fine.

Dr. Scott did my surgery (gastric sleeve) in June. I really like him, and I have no regrets choosing him as my surgeon. A few words of advice - appointments with Dr. Scott are very short as they usually double or triple book him, so if you have any questions, write them down ahead of time and make sure to get them in before the appointment is over. Also, appointments earlier in the day have shorter wait times (I've waited up to an hour after my appointment time for a 5 minute appointment). He's also very matter of fact, which could be off-putting to some people, but I appreciated it very much.
The nurses at MyNewSelf are really good and super nice. Your nurse will have to schedule your actual surgery, and even after insurance approval that takes time. They're also very difficult to get in touch with (which can be irritating if you're impatient like me). The care at the hospital before and after surgery was much better than I could have hoped for. I was really impressed with everyone I was in contact with - from nurses to techs and the doctors I saw there.
Overall, I would recommend Dr. Scott to anyone. Good luck!

misswhitneym got a reaction from Licia'sjourney in Roll call all who had surgery JUNE 2015
I was sleeved 6/9, and I'm down about 30 pounds. I'm currently in a stall, which is annoying, but I'm trying to be patient. The hardest part is keeping myself from thinking "ok, I'm done losing weight..I guess that's it". I know the stall will break eventually and I'll get back to losing weight, but part of me still doesn't believe that. I just keep reminding myself that I'm happy with my progress.
Anyway, I'm currently eating ground meats, steamed frozen veggies, and thin shaved deli meats. I cannot wait for next week when I can get back to eating raw crunchy veggies and nuts and seeds, plus chicken! I see lots of salads in my future! The past few days nothing really sounds appetizing, so I've just been focusing on getting in my Protein and liquids.
    All in all, can't complain!

misswhitneym got a reaction from quiltermom65 in Snacks or no snacks, I'm confused
I eat 3 meals and sometimes a snack. My nutritionist encourages the snack, especially something high Protein to help me reach my goal, but some days there's just not enough time to get all of my liquids and eat a snack. Plus, most days eating more is the last thing I want.

I got my Protein powder samples at Nashua Nutrition online. That's also where I ordered my Vitamins. Just a heads up, they came in clear plastic bags with a label that just had the brand and flavor - no nutritional information or instructions. The instructions came on a separate sheet of paper.
So far I've liked all of them except the Isopure Zero Carb (the pre-made drinks are my fave, but I'm not a fan of the powder).

misswhitneym reacted to AvaFern in What does it feel like?
When my stomach doesn't like something, it feels like it is coming up my throat. I feel a little hot, my heart beats faster, and my chest gets red when I eat sugar, however when I eat oils, fats, cheeses, or anything else remotely unhealthy I just feel like the food is sitting right in the middle of my throat and slowly working its way back out my mouth. Then I puke and feel better. Also, sometimes with dense Protein my throat starts to slime...thick, gooey, clear slime that coats the food and makes you barf.
At 5 weeks out you're close to being healed, so soon you will be able to have a better idea of what works for you and what doesn't.
