  3. Hi all

It's been a few weeks since I have been on here. I wanted to update everyone on my journey so far. I set a tentative date and submitted insurance paperwork on Wednesday, June 3... I got a call today saying I was approved!!!! My surgery date is July 17.

I am very excited and nervous but happy to see all my work for the past 6 mths be worthwhile.

I am sure I will posting preop questions soon lol

Thank you all for your support so far!

  4. Thank you all for the encouragement! It's been tough and I am still not used to it. Hopefully I will get accustomed to it or the nasal pillow will work well for me!

My bday is 6/25!! Great day for surgery :-) good luck!

I have been using a cpap for a little over a year now. I do like it because I am getting better rest I have the nasal mask. They started me with the nasal pillow and I hated them I was always awake readjusting those little buggers. My husband and Daughter also have machines My daughter has had hers the longest she has had some sort of sleep apnea machine since she was 3 and she is going on 13 they prefer the full masks. I was too claustrophobic to cover both my mouth and nose. Surgery is scheduled for 6/25/15 and my DR. said that it would be a great idea to have sleep testing redone at 9 months post surgery. I think it would be great not to have to use the machine anymore but since it does help me now I don't mind it.

    Yayy!!! My bday is 6/25!!!

  5. My endoscopy also revealed I had Hpylori! I just finished my 14 days antibiotic and will submit stool test next week. Through my sleep

Study found out I had a mild case of sleep apnea which I'm using cpap for. When I did my blood work with PCP found out I was starting point diabetic (6.4) and high blood pressure, If it weren't for the surgery regs, I wouldn't know any of these issues existed. I just thought I had weight issues and a high BMI. I

Guess it's a blessing in disguise...

It will all be much better soon!

  6. Hopefully you are in the land of Nod right now and managing fine. Wishing you luck :)

Thank you so much! I actually had a horrible night with it. I get hot at night and was sweating around my nose ( I had the epson nasal mask). I am trying to see if the nasal pillow is better! Wish me luck...

  7. I am in the later phases of getting my approval and am terrified and excited. I've never ever had any surgery before so it's pretty scary overall. I go through all these food funerals (eating everything in sight because it's the last time). However I start realizing that it's not that I won't ever eat again it's just that I'll eat different. This mentality of binge eating and loving food is what has me here in the first place. Will I be able to eat 3 slices of pizza NO but maybe 1/2 a slice once in a while. Hey... I might not want that half a slice anymore because you realize you don't need it after being healthy. So my long winded point is that it's normal to be nervous, anxious, scared, excited, curious..... This is a life changing surgery but know that it will be for the better (Atleast for majority of folks here it is)

Good luck and take it all a step at a time. It's a lot of work but from what I've read worth it!

  8. Hello everyone!

I wrote the info below on another post and figured it'd be helpful to some GHI users. I browse through forums and haven't found any updated info on this. Hope this helps someone!!

Below has been my process so far:

    Jan- WLS seminar

Jan-PCP blood work (diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure.

Jan-called insurance to confirm WLS details. I need 3 mth surprised, 40+ BMI or less than 40 BMI with 2 comorbidities.

Feb-initial meeting with WLS center. Same day did additional blood work to check out my Vitamin levels.

    Feb-endoscopy

Feb-sleep test(found out I had mild sleep apnea, needed 2nd sleep test, and need CPAP for the months before surgery then not after)

March-Psych evaluation and clearance letter. He gave me the little right then and there. Depends on your doc they might ask for longer time visiting psych.

    March-PCP clearance letter

March-1st weight loss maintenance meeting with center.

    March-2nd sleep test

    April-2nd weight management meeting

April-meet with endoscopy doctor for antibiotics. Endoscopy found I had a bacteria.

April-meet with sleep doctor for cpap machine. Need to use cpap for 1 mth before pulmonary clearance letter. After letter, still need to use machine until surgery.

    Coming up:

    May- last weight loss management

meeting and NUT meeting on same day. Center will send paperwork into insurance.

After insurance approval. I will meet with doctor and schedule surgery. I am looking to have surgery mid July because it works with my work schedule. I'm planning to take 2 weeks off and possibly work from an office near by either the second week and not take 2 week vacation. Or the third week and take two week vacation.

So overall it will take me 6 mths! Oh and from what I know I will have to do a preop diet. It will consist of 1 low carb meal a day then liquids-Protein shakes I believe.

This is my journey so far but everyone is different depending on doc. I am with Dr. Bagloo at Columbia Presbyterian in NYC. My friends doc didn't require sleep test for her not sure why!

    Good luck!
