I agree that the Isopure drinks are pricey, but I talked myself into them when I realized they were the same price as lunch at a fast food restaurant (I used to eat out a lot). I buy mine at Vitamin Shoppe which is slightly cheaper than GNC. I love Unjury also! My favorite is chocolate Splendor with a packet of Folgers Decaf instant coffee and ice. I make it in my Ninja and it's like a frappacino!

At first it's really hard to get the fluids all in. But you have to really work at it! They help you heal, help you lose weight, and early on in particular, they help you avoid serious Constipation -- and believe me, that's something you want to avoid! Keep a drink by your side at all times and sip, sip, sip. You won't stretch your sleeve! Water will always seek the easiest path, and that's down into your small intestine where it's supposed to go. Good luck!

I wanted to try those but they are on the expensive side.
Have you loss any weight with the pre-opt diet?
I use the Premier Protein shakes which have 30 grams of protein.

It gets easier! I'm 9 days post op, I had to do full liquid for 10 days before surgery and STILL on liquid for 2 weeks, only a week to go!
Bit it does get easier. I did 3 Protein Shakes a day. In between, if I got hungry, broth, sugar free popcicles, sugar free Jello. But mostly broth. I got tired of beef or chicken, so I started buying different flavor Soups and drain the liquid from them. I also had to hide in my room when it was dinner time at first. But now I'm good with my family eating in front of me.
What kind of Protein shakes are you drinking? If there are not high in protein, you will stay hungry. I used Bariatric Advantage, you can order online under that name. Low carb, low sugar. Very very filling.
I hope this helps! Good luck and hang in there! Your almost there!

I am 1 day post op and my Dr said 1 oz every 10 - 15 minutes. He gave me a 30ml cop (like a NyQuil measure) and I fill that and sip. I got in about 24 oz in last night between 6 and 10. So to me that helps. I also pput an alert on my cell to beep ne every 10 minutes or so to remind me to drink

Hey there! I also use the Unjury, I use the chicken noodle flavor and as to broth and Soups. Also I recently found Protein shots! They are called New Whey Protein liquid. 42g of whey protein, 0 sugar, low carb, 180 calories, and only 3.8oz. If it wasn't for finding these little things, I don't know what I would've done. I'm only a little over a week post op, but these things were a god send!
O and I had to go to a Vitamin shop to find them. They weren't on the floor, we talked to a worker there, and they ordered them for me.
Hope this helps! Good luck to ya!

You absolute CAN take it back. Take it back by fighting back and getting back on track. Your story is not as uncommon as most might think. Turn it around now, and be grateful that you did face the facts and stepped on that scale. You are stronger than your demons, don't let them win this time.
Hugs to you, you absolutely have it in you. You've already proven that.

First thank you for sharing you got this you did it once and you can do it again, stay focus take one day at a time and now that you realize your mistakes you know what not to do. Sharing your story helps everyone to recognize their mistakes as well as prevent future mistakes. You will get back to your goal I know you will.

Before you have gastric bypass they warn you of a few things.
    1. You can gain the weight back
    2. Alcoholism is a possible side effect after surgery
    3. food that used to fill you up or make you sick won't do that as much after awhile
    4. Smoking cigarettes causes ulcers post-op
My mom always says no matter how much I'm warned - I've always had to learn every lesson the hard way. Gastric bypass was that way too.
My story is just a warning for all you newbies out there - all the stuff they warn you about is real.
Hey, I'm Kaylee and I had my surgery when I was 20 years old on June 11, 2012. I was 280lbs. In less than 8 months I got down to 150 lbs, 130lbs lost.
For the first 9 months I was insanely strict. If it wasn't a lean Protein or a non-starchy vegetable I wouldn't eat it. Couldn't pay me to eat a carb. While this is good health wise and I'm sure made my surgical team sing - it was the start of my inevitable failure. I was so strict that after awhile all the foods I had denied myself even a nibble of became so enticing I felt ravenous.
My first screw up was picking up smoking again almost a year after I quit. Pure stupidity, I was just bored and thought I could do it socially, wrong. Got ulcers and have had them for over a year and a half. Without acid reducer pills I'm in a lot of pain.
Breaking that golden rule led me to break other rules because hey, I already screwed up right? I started having those forbidden foods I had not allowed myself to even look at for such a long time. Bites turned into mouth fulls turned into plate fulls.
Then came introducing wine back into my life. I suffer from depression and when you don't have to put effort into getting drunk anymore it is so appealing. I fought depression with wine and started drinking every single night - going through a box of wine every 3 days or so.
I then moved from sunny south Florida, away from all my friends, to cold Missouri in the middle of January 2014. I fell into a deep depression and my drinking got worse, and since I was waiting for all my stuff to arrive in the moving truck I lived off hot pockets, Bagels, pretty much anything I could toss in a microwave or toaster. I ate crap, drank daily and smoked like a chimney for pretty much the entire year of 2014, all the while pretending my scale didn't exist and convincing myself my clothes were shrinking and I wasn't getting bigger. I was too ashamed and terrified to look at the scale.< /p>
I finally got up the courage to face what I had done to myself the start of January 2015 and got on the scale. 204lbs. In the span of one year I had gained 54lbs. I felt disgusted with myself and cried for days and days and beat myself up emotionally. I failed everyone, especially myself.
But nothing good comes from beating yourself up over what you cannot take back. I can't take back living on bagels and wine for an entire year. What I can do is fight to get back to 150lbs though.
So on January 12 I quit smoking, quit drinking every day and have reduced it to just Saturday's with my boyfriend at home versus my downtown-bad-habit-factory, and have gotten close to back to basics but allow myself some freedom - for example for lunch on days I work out I let myself have my chicken and veggies inside a wrap [carbs are my crack] instead of depriving myself of anything I want.
I want very badly to get back down to 150lbs... I'm terrified I never will and have somehow ruined this "one and only chance" I've made up in my head. Like I had this wonderful gift of being thin and now that I messed it up I'll never get it back, but I know that type of thinking won't help me. So I'm going to keep going and hopefully someday get back to it.
If you've actually made it this far, thank you, I really needed to get this horrible guilt off my chest. I feel like an absolute failure but getting it out helps.
So advice to all you n00bs:
    1. Yes you can gain it back, I'm an example.
    2. Becoming an alcoholic is a real risk you need to watch out for post op.
    3. You will be surprised how much food you can get into your body if you really try
    4. If you quit smoking never pick it up again, I didn't even have a desire to smoke and managed to become a pack a day smoker again within a month. Not even one after you quit.
And most of all - NEVER EVER stop using your scale. I ignored what I was doing for so long and that's how I ended up gaining the amount I did. If I had just looked a couple months before and saw 175lbs I would've done what I'm doing now back then. I would have never let it get this bad if I had just swallowed my pride and looked. I'm lucky that I caught myself when I did because I was headed towards being morbidly obese again.
Good luck to you all - try not to make all the mistakes I did.
Here's to hoping I can look like this again

It sounds like you are doing great! Stick to it and you will meet your goal weight. I had my surgery in Sept 2014 and I have lost 64lbs so far at 185. Aiming for 145. You will have ups and downs through this. Try to stay positive when you meet the plateaus, they do go away, but sometimes it seems that they last forever. Just do what your doctor tells you and I have no doubts that you will make it!!!!

@@ElaineD31 welcome! Many have experienced what you are describing. Remember you have had major surgery and your body is doing a lot of adjusting. I try to avoid the scale, after all, it is only one measurement of progress. My progress is following my plan everyday and feeling good about that as well as the perks that come along with healthier habits. My BP is better, I am fitting into things better, etc. Be nice to yourself! If you are following your plan, it's all gonna happen. Meanwhile if you want to search for "stall" on this site you'll find advice others had for this as well.
    Good luck!

Welcome and congrats on your surgery and weight loss! Even tho' you will have stalls, they do pass if you're following the rules. Just think of it this way: what will you weigh and look like in one year's time? You have a lot to look forward to, and make sure you are taking measurements, especially during a stall. The measurements will show what the scale won't...SUCCESS! Good luck to you on your journey!

Hello! I'm new to BariatricPal and wanted to introduce myself.
My name is Elaine and I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 2/10/15. I lost 15 lbs pre-op on my liquid diet and 21 lbs since the surgery. I go for my post-op month appointment with my surgeon tomorrow.
I think it's awesome that I lost 36 lbs so far and I can't wait to see more weight loss!
I've been stalled for about 2 weeks now with my weight loss and I can't lie...it's been messing with my head a bit. This has happened to me in the past with my other attempts at weight loss. My body doesn't like me to lose anything over 40 lbs apparently. I don't think it will have a choice this time.
I started walking during my lunch hour 3 to 4 days a week for now and am looking into joining a gym and meeting with a trainer.
I joined this looking for advice and support to keep going. Looking forward to getting to know people and getting some great advice!

I had a NSV this week. I actually went into Victoria Secrets and brought some workout pants ( size medium) and a hoodie(size L) First time I have ever purchased anything from there and I felt comfortable browsing around. Before my weight loss I would go in there to buy things for my daughter and I used to feel so awkward- not anymore!! Plus while I was shopping I would catch glimpses of myself in the store windows and was so surprised that I looked like a "normal" sized woman. This surgery has helped me make so many positive changes!!

Congratulations! There are so many big ones that it is hard to pick one.
This week I have been in beautiful Hawaii with my family. In fact, I am sitting out on my balcony on the ship in Kauai listening to my music via headphones while the rest of my family is sleeping.
This vacation was the first in so many years that I was actually able to keep up with everyone every single day. I would call that one of the biggest wins for me outside some of very improved health.
I am blessed with a whole new life!

Gosh that's awesome that you lost so easily I'm on the other end of spectrum and can't lose .... I think if you want to get in more Protein I would add a couple Protein shakes in during the day they are at least 20grams plus if you use milk another 10 and that counts as your liquid also. I use the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein shake www.unjury.com the vanilla and chocolate are delish. I add a half of a banana and ice to my nija and it comes out like a shake. Good luck!
