    What's your workout routine?

I'm just a week from 3 months post op and have been working out 4-5 days per week, and I usually do some non structured activities on the weekends. I have been doing workouts at home, videos from youtube and my cables on demand option as well as HIT circuits and resistance bands. I mix it up every night for something different. I plan on getting out and walking again after all the snow melts, I have a chiweenie and he loves his walks when I get home from work. I hope to work up to running this spring.

    Youtube workout

Thanks for the recommendations guys! I did a biggest loser work out on Tuesday night, I had actually done it before a few years ago when the video was on demand. I also found Popsugar Fitness last night when I was looking for workouts to do with my resistance bands. I did the "Cardio bootcamp workout with resistance band" and I was burning by the end!

Does anyone use workout videos they find on Youtube? If so what are your favorite videos/who are your favorite instructors? What are their channel names? Thanks!

    United Healthcare:Choice Plus

My approval took approximately 10 days as well, I had my surgery scheduled before I got my approval (well sort of, they tentatively put me in a spot). but it was well before my surgery day so if it was denied there wouldn't have been too much scrambling. I had my surgery about a month after I was approved.

    Salmon Recipes Please!

I really like marinaded salmon. We used low sodium soy sauce, olive oil, honey, garlic, onion, salt and pepper, marinate for a few hours and either grill or bake!

    Understanding my blood work (help)

Hi there, I'm an RN, I work in a Kidney Specialty office and we do treat people with anemia due to chronic kidney disease. Your HGB is very low, even for my standards if we had someone with a HGB that low they would be going for a blood transfusion. It sounds like you are currently seeing a hematologist and getting Iron infusions. I would be curious to know what your iron, iron binding and ferritin look like and if iron infusions are even necessary and you don't need a different kind of treatment. This lab work only shows your CBC. Also, next time you get your lab work, I would ask for a nurse or a medical assistant to go over it with you. That should never be an issue!

    Drinks?

My program allows alcohol after you are at the two month mark which is at the eating normally/bariatric lifestyle phase of post op, which I am at now. My NUT did advised that after surgery we may be light weights and go very easy on it. Lots of alcohol and alcoholic drinks are high in calories which you'll want to be mindful of. I've had a light mikes hard lemonade and a glass of white wine so far and both seemed to go okay, I couldn't finish the whole bottle of mikes.
  10. I had my first NSV this week as well. We went to a college basketball game, I had been in the arena before and felt very crowded and stuffed into the seat, this week I sat down and slide right in, didn't feel stuffed at all, it was so nice and made the time so much more enjoyable!
  11. If you are okay with people knowing that you are trying to lose wt (not have surgery but just lose wt) you could just tell them that you are dieting and broth and shakes are on your diet, and that its important to you and you are committed to losing weight. But no, it is not his business to tell and if you don't want certain people to know he should respect that. I had a similar issue going into surgery, my mom likes to talk to people about me, tell them my life story really... i suppose its because she is proud of me but i'm pretty modest and it makes me uncomfortable when she tells people stuff about me. So anyway, I was sure that she would tell everyone, so I had to have a serious discussion with her that I wasn't ready to let the whole world know and asked she didn't tell anyone unless I said it was okay. She honestly has done a pretty good job, better than I expected but she did tell my aunt which I was okay with as she is very supportive. I've found that the further out from surgery I get the less I care that people know. There are quite a few people now that know and everyone has been supportive, but I completely understanding why you are uncomfortable, you should be able to tell people when you are ready.

    Best Quest bar flavor

I bought a sample pack of 12 bars on amazon to try them out, I've only tried about 4 or 5 so far (what I would consider the less desirable flavors) and so far they have been kind of disappointing (and had the icky protein flavor, I had to completely throw one out after two bites). Ill get back to you after I try more, I did like the cinnamon roll and the vanilla almond ones.

    Almost week three

I am almost a month post op, I will be on the 19th and I've weighed exactly the same since November 2nd, so for two weeks now the scale hasn't moved at all. Its really frustrating. I've been doing my best to get all my calories and all my Protein and all my Water and I've been walking 5 days a week and doing extras on the weekends. I don't see how I can't be losing but the scale sure isn't telling me so. SIGH! I feel your pain.

Denied and not sure what to do

Yeah I'm sure your doctors office got the same letter you did for the reason for denial. What I understand from it is that there was no documentation that you had been treated for GERD and the Psych eval must have been worded in a way that you weren't ready for the surgery. I think you should do both, make an appt with the Psych to get a re evaluation and let them know what you are trying to accomplish so they can hopefully focus the visit on that, and work with your surgeons office to get an appeal going.

    Conflicting info on UHC medicaid

I have united healthcare choice plus thought my dads employer. My requirements were the same as everyone has mentioned. I also had to register for United healthcare's bariatric service, has no one else had to do that? I had a call with a nurse case manager who basically just talked to me about the surgery and asked me some questions about my plan and support ect. She also called me about 5 months in to see how everything was going and she also called a few days after surgery to check on me. (She wasn't from my surgeons office she was from the insurance). They also sent me some booklets at the very beginning.
  17. Thank you so much for this! She said because they don't absorb the same way as the crunchy ones, BUT your levels are good so that must not always be the case! From what everyone is saying ..and knowing myself..I need some of the bariatric advantage chews. I'm much more likely to take them all day if I'm not having a hard time getting them down. Thank you so much! That's what I was worried about with chews, that the absorption wouldn't be that great, I started with the bariatric advantage tablet chewable a and multivitamins but I only made it two weeks with them, I couldn't hardly get them down and it made me not want to take them. Today I went to costco and got the Vitafusion women's Multivitamin gummy 220 gummies for 8.99 and the Vitafusion Calcium 2 bottles of 100 gummies for 10.99. Costco does have a version of the bariatric calcium chews, they are Kirkland brand and are chocolate or caramel sugar free chews, 180 for 11.99. Hope this helps! Also after I can get to the 8 week post op and I can take caps and tabs I'll switch to those.

    Vitamins

My programs didn't care what brand of vitamins I got as long as I got the vitamins and doses they suggested. I was only on the bariatric advantage multivitamin and calcium before I had to go to Costco and buy the gummies. The other ones were making me sick they were so gross.

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

I had my two week post op appt on Monday. I got in trouble for not calling the office because I have been constantly nauseous since surgery. I am suppose to have 5, 2oz meals every day and then 48-60 oz of water and 1 protein shake, on full liquids I was only averaging 3, 2oz meals and I never even got to the protein shake, being nauseous sucks. I have been doing better since being able to have purred since yesterday. At my appt yesterday I am officially down 47lbs since the start of my journey and 16lbs since surgery. I don't know if I've stalled, I have only been weighing once, maybe twice a week. Anyway, everyone keep up the good work, and please drink your water, dehydration is no joke.

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

My Nut told me that if I vomit I should go back to full liquids for the rest of the day.

    Puréed food ideas

My puréed stage starts next Monday and I've already been preparing lol. I've found that Pinterest has some good ideas for things to make/try if you search for "bariatric puréed".

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

I'm having a rough time with this post op liquid diet. On top of me being nauseous all the time nothing that I can have sounds appealing so I sometimes just don't eat, which I know is wrong. I am getting all my water in and taking all my vitamins. I'm basically just counting down the days until puréed foods. Sigh.

    Trouble with water

I'm 4 days out from surgery and I seem to be having an issue with drinking water. Whenever I have any other liquid it feels fine but when I drink water it goes into my pouch and feels strange and almost makes me sick... Anyone else experience this? Ideas?
  24. I've heard that Halo Top is the way to go, I have not tried it yet. I have tried Arctic Zero and honestly I wasn't crazy about any of the flavors, I tired cookie shake and cookie dough and was disappointed both times. I'm looking forward to giving halo top a try when I'm far enough out.
