  1. Im sooo excited! I just finished the very last of my pre-op testing (upper GI barium swallow, blood work, respiratory, EKG, etc) and I could not be more excited. I even paid off my portion of the surgery bill. YAY!!! I will say that for a bit during the testing, I got a little nervous.... because it finally became real. This is actually happening. After nearly a full year, Im *thisclose*. I start my liquid diet a week from tomorrow, which I hope goes by quickly! Aaand then I have my last face to face apt with my surgeon... then, its V-DAY, as in VICTORY DAY! Losers bench here I come, baby!
  2. OMG, my latest phone call to my doctors office this morning must've lit a fire under their bums. I GOT MY SURGERY DATE! Theyve been dragging their feet for 3 weeks scheduling my pre-op testing and surgery. Looks like I will be begining my new life Aug 5th! i am sooo incredibly excited. and nervous. i could probably puke lol YAY!!!! *doing my happy dance*

    August 4th is the day

I am August 5th, I'm right there with you!!
  4. So on June 9th i got the approval from my insurance for my surgery! HOORAY!! A couple days later, I got my letter in the mail and I took it over to the doctors office, she told me the scheduler will be in touch with me to set up my surgery date and the last of the pre-surgery testing. That was almost 3 weeks ago. Ive called several times inquiring as to what the hold up is, but they keep telling me they have to coordinate the testing to be done on the same morning. I get that, I guess. But at the same time, the waiting is KILLING me. Im ready to move on from all of this. Im ready to be on the losers bench. Im ready to start living the new me. I try to focus on whats going on now, keeping busy, making sure ive got everything organized and arranged for when surgery does roll around and most importantly, im keeping a watchful eye on my diet and exercise. This process has been a year in the making as of this month. Its been a difficult rollercoaster for sure. "Good things come to those who wait" seems like my never ending mantra lately. Is this a normal length of time to wait to get surgery scheduled after approval? Or am i just that impatient? lol

    Approved!

    Congratulations!!!
  6. So i just got my clearance back from all my testing, which made me super happy! I scheduled my appointment to meet my surgeon for next Monday and then scheduled to take the afternoon off work. The doctors office just called back and said "sorry, i didnt see the surgeons schedule has changed. We cant get you in for your consult until the end of May." I almost cried on the phone. I was hoping to have already had surgery and been recovering by then. Now it looks like surgery wont be until June sometime. Im so ready for this to be finished. Ive been working towards this for damn near a year now and Ive worked so hard... its sooooo close yet soooo far away. Im so disappointed to add another month of wait time.
  7. I finally met my surgeon today. I like him. However his nurse told me that he and the other doctor have commitments and vacations comig up so were most likely looking at July or August for surgery date. im sure she could see the disappointment on my face. This is typically how my luck goes it seems. My weight also went up by about 7 lbs since my last NUT appointment a few months back. Guess i ate worse on my vacation then i thought... I was told to really watch my diet bc insurance will be looking at if i can comply with what they are asking me to do. so ive got a some time to work on losing it! Fingers crossed theres no more obstacles or hurdles! 1 year is a long time to be working towards this. But i must say, its really prepared me. Had i had surgery within a few months of starting the process, i dont think i would have been as ready for it. I understand so much more about it all now! Im more ready then ever. Send out for Insurance approval next week! Hope its quick!
  8. Wearing shorts no more front butt! riding a bike Sitting next to my daughter and not feeling like a balloon having energy feeling confident and sexy in a relationship BEING HEALTHY!
  9. So for the past month or so i was trying my hardest to cut carbs from my diet and stick to Protein rich foods and non-processed items. I was doing great and lost a few pounds.... and then vacation came. I took my daughter to Disney and made some horrible food choices almost the entire trip. Ive gained back those few pounds i lost. Im so disappointed in myself. More snacking and bigger portion sizes really set me back. *I* set me back. Im jumping back on the wagon today! Id like to lose 10 lbs by the time i go for surgery in June. I know its totally do-able. i just hope i can stick to the program and prove to myself that ive got this! I can do this! I want to be healthy! Ive got to be healthy for my daughter! OSN: I realized when we got home, that i didnt take ANY pictures with my daughter that werent from the shoulders up. This completly saddened me. Im making it a point to get back on the right path for next years vacation! I want to be in those wonderful adventure pictures!
  10. @@amacox I have tried EAS and while it was reasonably priced and tasted pretty good, it was tough on my system. Ive been using Muscle Milk Mega Protein and its been pretty good to me!

    Blender suggestions?

I have the Oster Personal Blender. It comes with a 20 oz bottle you blend your drinks right in. I love it!
  12. Recently ive been cutting out all junk foods and bad Snacks and replacing them with Protein shakes and protein rich foods (i havent started my pre op diet, im just trying to form good habits before hand). My question is, can you get too much protein pre op?? I know it will be different once im sleeved, it will be hard at first to hit my goals, but im curious... what is a normal protein range to try to stick to before surgery?
  13. Also, the preop liquid diet my surgeon requires is for 2 weeks. Its going to be a tough road!
  14. Oh good!! I have been trying to hit around 60 or 70 grams a day. I have a bad history of flaking on diets and programs so i am def trying to be as proactive as i can be with this. I am super pumped for surgery, scared... but so ready! I meet with my surgeon the week after next to select a date. Im hoping for early May. Thank you for the info guys! I look forward to sharing my "after" story!
  15. I am hoping for a May date as well! Ive been on this journey since last August and it has been a tough one! I just had my last 2 tests this morning and spoke to the nurse afterwards, everything is ready to go! The surgeons meet next Tuesday to look at my case and after that it goes to insurance for approval. Im soooo ready to be on the losers bench! Hope to keep in touch everyone!
  16. I have my last appointment (chest xrays and pulminary function) on monday! woo! Then April 7th the surgeons review my case and if all goes well, they send off for insurance approval. I am hoping to have an early May surgery date! Im so excited to be soooo close!
  17. Good luck to all of you!!!

    where do you live?

    Quad Cities, Illinois!
  19. I am so very proud of myself! I have been trying to make serious eating habit changes in preperation for my liquid diet and the diet of a new sleever. ive finally found a Protein shake that i like and that is gentle on my lactose intolerant body, im upping my Water intake as much as i can, ive cut out junk food, bad Snacks and my "trigger" foods. I am listening to my stomache tell me when ive had enough to eat (which has always been hard for me!). Ive been trying to get outside for walks with my daughter, even after a long day at work. These little things give me the courage and confidence to know that i can do this! I will be a healthy person! It will get harder before it gets easier, but i know i can do this! I have been reading posts on here for quite a while and i want to thank everyone for all the answered questions, general iinformation and good/bad experiences! its so helpful to know that there is such a great community of people just a click away... we are not alone in this!
  20. I have told only my mother and my younger sister about my decision to have WLS, and after some chatting with each of them, they have come to understand my choice and even support me. My older sister however is a fitness buff, loves beachbody, going to the gym, clean eating etc.... and im actually afraid to tell her. I really want her to know, because i feel like keeping my having surgery from her while others know would be bad for our relationship.... but at the same time, im afraid she wont support what im doing. Im sure i would get the "you can do it without surgery" talk. Im very nervous.....

    What did your family say?

Thank you all for the stories and experiences! i did tell my sister shortly after posting this thread. i have not heard from her, she hasnt answered me at all. I love her and hope one day she realizes why im doing this but until then i will keep reminding myself that this is for me and my daughter. this is to be healthy... not to make anyone else happy. Im glad to know that there is support here if not immediatly from friends/family!
  22. Aside from the obvious health benefits from WLS, I have to vainly confess.... i am thorougly looking forward to seeing my "front butt" disappear. My pregnancy ruined my muscles and on top of being overweight it has really sent me into total insecurity about my body. My work uniform does nothing but accentuate the area and spanx doesnt help much at all. I find myself making sure I carry something in front of me when I leave my desk in order to avoid the looks of people I pass in the hallways. I realize there will always be hanging skin there but its exciting to know that my most insecure area will not be so notiecable once i get down to a manageable weight. YAY! So my question is, is there anything I can do to tighten loose skin?
  23. How long did you need post op help with kids or house work? When were you able to resume normal daily activities, like taking laundry up or down stairs or driving, etc? Im hoping for a late April/early May surgery date and my mother will be flying up to help out with my daughter and the house while i recover, but im just curious how long did you need help with the kids and day to day chores? What were your stories?
  24. I have several piercings that will need to be replaced with plastic spacers when surgery comes around. What is the best type of jewlery to purchase that is medically acceptable? I keep running across something called bioflex in my research. Has anyone used that?
