Guys, what do you consider your ideal pants size ?

If I go by the link to that Men's Health article with the 2:1 ratio then 36" would be my ideal. Good number to shoot for then

    HOW LONG OFF OF WORK?

@@timely We are all different, but like I said in my post the sooner you can get up and get moving the better. I walked as often as they would let me in the hospital. When I came home on Thursday I would get up and just walk around my house for 5 to 10 min. On Friday I was walking outside in my neighborhood 10 min at a time. I did this 4 to 6 times through out the entire day. Saturday I was at the gym walking on the treadmill at a slow pace. I was only on pain killers the day of surgery and Thursday I took one Norco. Nothing after that. Good luck on your journey.

    Meat tolerance

I'm a little over 5 weeks. While I have been having canned tuna/chicken I have also tried 90/10 ground beef, chicken sausage and chicken breast. Knock on wood I haven't had any troubles.

How did you set your goal weight?

I came to my number based of other guy friends and seeing their height weight. I have really broad shoulders and if I was at what the BMI scale says I would look anorexic. I figure I will just to to a weight I am comfortable with and work from there. When I mentioned 215 to 225 to my Dr he didn't argue and said it was probably a good weight based off my frame. I guess time will tell
  11. Signed up for my 1st 5K. It's the "Avengers Super Heroes" at Disneyland. I have 7mo to get ready. Let's do this!

    Couch to 5k

@@JamieLogical It should be. The course runs through California Adventure and the main Disneyland park. The only downside is the event starts at 5:30AM lol. The parks will be all lit up and by November all the Christmas lights will be up. I just got back from lunch and got fitted for a pair of shoes. I'll try them out tonight

    Couch to 5k

@@JamieLogical Thanks for the advise. My co-worker who has lost a ton of weight and now runs a 5K almost every morning before work stressed the same things. I have a good pair of New Balance shoes but they weren't meant for running. They are great for walking and other gym activities. I want to get the right gear so i don't wind up with any set backs. On a side note since my first post in this thread. I pulled the trigger and signed up for my first 5K. I signed up for the Avengers Super Heroes 5K at Disneyland. It's not till November so i have 7 months to keep on it.

    Couch to 5k

I just started this. I have aspirations of doing some 5K in my future. I have always wanted to do one of the Run Disney events. http://www.rundisney.com/ I've been doing OK with the app and keeping up. However I do feel I am still carrying around a lot of weight and it's hard on my knees. That being said it's been a nice change from just walking or doing the elliptical. The program getting the heart hate up there for sure. I think my next step is going to a shop by me called Road Runner Sports and get fitted for a better pair of shoes. This might help with the knee and back tenderness I get. I'm using the 5K Runner app on my iPhone which has the audio prompts and ties into the Nike+ App.

How long till I can workout?

Everyone will have different advice based on their doctor's instructions. That being said my Dr. told me to get started day 1. I started walking the day of surgery and have kept going longer and further as the days went on. I strongly believe getting up and moving helped my recovery versus sitting on the couch. I even asked about weights and he said between the stitches and glue there was little risk of pulling/tearing something. I thought was a little odd since I had been reading here that most Dr. said wait 6 weeks for weights. I chose to wait 3 weeks before lifting again. When I started I went light and have been building on that. Do what you feel comfortable with.
  16. Congrats! I too hit the 50lb mark this morning. It's been a fun and challenging time.
  17. I would also like to say devices like the FitBit of any other trackers aren't the most accurate thing when it comes to measuring activity and the calories burned. At most they are making a guesstimate of what you are doing. Lifting my Water bottle to my mouth counts as a step. Also the wearables with heart rate monitors are less accurate that a good old chest strap monitor. There are many Youtube videos showing the difference. They can be off by as much as 10 to 20 BPM. All that being said they are still great motivation devices. I just take the numbers from these device with a grain of salt. The same way I don't fully trust the numbers the gym cardio equipment is telling me.
  18. Phew. I felt the effects of not measuring out my food last night. Ouch. Tankfully it passed quickly and going to the gym helped.

It's not fun when you eat that "one bite too many." Been there, done that a few times. I always have to remind myself that my tummy feeling of fullness is in real time now, and not delayed about 20 minutes like it was pre-surgery. A half cup is all I can handle at a meal.

    HOW LONG OFF OF WORK?

I was out 5 work days. I had my surgery on a Wednesday. Discharged from the hospital on Thursday. I went back to work the following Wednesday. I honestly think getting up and moving around as soon as I could can AND as often as I could greatly improved my recovery time.
  20. I'm 4 weeks post-op today! I have definitely become a slave to the scale. I try not to let it effect my attitude (I'm very happy with the results so far). I did take measurements and have seen the decrease in some areas and an increase (due to weights) in others. I need to challenge myself to stop getting on the scale every morning.
  21. I had my first post-op check (3 weeks and a day) with my doctor and had the class nutritionist about transitioning. I was happy because I can have different things now. However as I am sitting here with my pureed chicken with a little mustard my stomach feels like it did when I first started on full liquids. A lot of gurgling and what not. Anyone ( or everyone ) experience this sensation?
  22. I had some hummus with cucumber spears no skin on the cucumber and it was glorious LOL
  23. I was out for 5 days. Surgery was on a Wednesday and I returned the following Wednesday. In regards to the walking 20-30 min. I broke it up into many small walks. I live on a cul-de-sac and it took 10 mins to circle. I just did that a few times a day while recovering.

    Pre-op Binge eating

While I wouldn't call it pre-op binge eating there where certain items I wanted to have before surgery. The week before my 2 week liquid diet I allowed myself to have those foods. After that I made a committed choice for myself to do all I could pre-op that my surgeon asked me to do. I'm sure at some point in the future I will be able to have some of the foods I once loved again. However this time it will be in much smaller portions.
