    Running

Like most suggested I started with a C25K app. For me I signed up for a 5K as a goal and knew I had to train to get there. Now I'm addicted to running races. I'm not fast by any means, but I enjoy races more than just hitting the open road solo.

How long did you lose weight for?

I'm over a year post-op, hit my goal and I am still losing. At my one year my surgeon said I would for at least 18 months. However if there is anything reading this forum has taught me is there is no right number. It seems like every person has been told a different thing from their Dr. I shouldn't have to worry too much about the scale number if I just keep tracking and doing what I have been doing the last year.
  7. Yup my surgeon had a 4 week clear/protein shakes diet as well. By that third week I was going insane because I wanted to chew something. This is when someone here recommended sugar free popsicles. I could at least bite them and chew/melt them in my mouth.

  9. I believe I can officially post in here and call my journey a success. I know that one year is a small insignificant amount of time in the grand scope of things. . The whole process was a whirlwind for me. I contacted Dr Owen's office upon referral from a friend on 2/8/15. Upon talking to the front office they make me aware of pending insurance changes. At the time my insurance didn't require a 6mo monitored diet. Therefore if I wanted to get this done I had to have my surgery before March 15th. This didn't leave much time. However Dr Owens staff is so well versed in the insurance game I was approved a few days later. Reflecting on it now it was probably good that I didn't have much time to second guess myself. It was truly a "crap or get off the pot" moment. Insurance approved my surgery was set on Mach 11, 2015 I snapped this picture in my pre-opp weight of 380lbs liquid only phase pre-op to me was the worse part of this whole thing. Being 380lbs and eating like I was the 4 or 5 shakes a day just sucked. I've confessed on here that a few times during that 2 week diet I failed with the thinking "Oh I will never get to have this again". One night I left the house to go to Target and went through a McDonald's drive-thru. I then sat in the Target parking lot devouring a lot of bad food items. I faltered, but I picked myself up and carried on. The day of surgery I had lost 20lbs Physical recovery for me went easy. I think I took one pain killer the day I came home. I got up and started moving the second day I was home. I just walked around my block over and over and over again. The surgery was Wednesday and I was back at work on Monday. My Dr. keeps his patients on a post-op liquid phase for another 3 to 4 weeks. This was the 2nd hardest thing. I found myself getting angry because I just wanted to chew something. I think that first scrambled egg I had was best thing ever. The mental game is REAL. Physically after surgery you are given the tool you need to succeed. What surgery doesn't do it fix the mental side of the house. It took a few weeks for the cravings and the "why did I do this" stuff to work it self out. I'm not going to diary out the other 10 to 11 months, but I am happy that I did go though with the surgery. I have accomplished things I would have never attempted to do. Namely running 4 different 5K races and most recently my first 10K. So here it is 1 year and 3 days later and I have lost 165lbs. I am definitely a new man.

What Are Your Fast Food Faves?

I rarely eat out, but occasionally I will go to lunch with co-workers. I have goto options from the various places we go Panda Express - A La Carte Small Kung Pao or the new Pacific Chili Shrimp is really good too Chick-fil-a - Grilled nuggets, grilled sandwich w/o bun, or the new grilled spicy chicken salad is yum Five Guys - Hamburger in a bowl with oinion, green pepper, mushrooms and a little A1 Habbit Burger - Albacore Tuna Filet w/o Bun Jimmy Johns - ask for the sub "unwhich". They will wrap the sub in lettuce. Makes 2 meals for me El Polo Loco - One or Two piece, take the skin off with steamed broccoli Carl's Jr - BBQ Charbroil chicken or the Santa Fe (I love the green chili on this one) w/o bun Del Taco - 1/2 green burrito and just eat the inside or chicken soft taco no white sauce add del scorcho myself

    Sleep apnea question/rant

I had sleep Apnea. I was a #6 setting. It took a while, but I haven't used the machine in about 6 months. Even when I stopped using it it took me a long time to get use to not using it. I grew so accustom to it. It felt weird not having it on me at night.

By request - BigViffer Workout Routine

Awesome post and a wealth of information. One thing I would ask is the number of sets and reps that you are doing for each exercise.

    Girl Scout Cookies

I've had a few this year. Tracking them in MFP has been a sure fire way to keep me in check. Now I will just have 2 and not the whole row in one sitting, and the next, and the next...

Guys, what do you consider your ideal pants size ?

So this was posted about a month post-op. I can say that is WAS a good number to shoot for and I am currently wearing 36"s Since this post my 36" Levi 559s are getting loose around the waist. I could probably wear 34"s. I asked for a pair for Christmas. Even if they don't fit it will be a goal. I am now in a 32" Levi 559 and a 34 in my dress slacks. I can't imagine going down another size.
